Best Things to Do in Guayaquil

This trip was truly once in a lifetime! The itinerary was well thought out, so that we saw the huge diversity that Ecuador had to offer- from stunning volcanic landscape, beautiful birds and wildlife, massive biodiversity and incredible culture and food. That was even before we got to the truly unique Galapagos, where we had a huge range of well planned day trips with knowledgeable local guides. I have never been so near such stunning wildlife and we were lucky enough to snorkel with sharks, sea lions, penguins and sea turtles- as the animals let us on that particular day. What a place, just stunning.
Our guide Diego also could not do enough, right from the beginning he found out what we were interested in and then tailored it to meet our needs, whilst also looking after everyone. He was an excellent communicator who shared his love for his country to ensure we enjoyed every moment! He also gave us lots of additional information including on birds, volcanoes, plant life, animals, fruits which was really useful!
The itinerary was well thought out and although a very busy trip, it was balanced with time to rest and enjoy. It made me want to go back!

We had two tour leaders. Fabian in Ecuador was excellent. Informative, engaging and willing to expand on the itinerary to include information about the country, people, culture etc. The guide in Peru, Neilson was unfortunately not the same. He was very knowledgeable about the inca's and their history but seemed uninterested in the people in the group, didn't tell us anything about peru and the current political and social situation. It was almost that he had his script and couldn't or wouldn't expand beyond that.

Our guide Diego showed us his love of Ecuador, enthusing over the wildlife of the high Andes and Galapagos alike. I chose the diversity of this itinerary and was not disappointed. The trip was full on with early starts and long days but was rewarded with so much variety. Even on long journeys there were interesting breaks such as rose farms and chocolate manufacturers.

What a fabulous trip! Ecuador is an amazing, beautiful, wonderful country. I was a little concerned initially by the trouble out there, but I need not have worried. It felt completely safe at all times and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

Highlights include snorkelling with sharks, penguins, sea lions and a sea horse! And the contrasts, from a humid cloud forest to the desolate high Andes to the Galapagos.

Diego was a fabulous guide, perhaps the best Explore guide! He was helpful, friendly, informative and simply great at his job.

Very varied activities. Suited me because I wanted to be land based on the Galapagos Islands to be able in the evening wandering along the beach watching the iguanas and blue footed boobies do their thing .
Great to see the old part of Quito and visit Mindo, Otavalo and Cotopaxi. Enjoyed the market in Otavalo for handicrafts
