What travelers are saying

"This tour has amazing sites, good hotels in great locations, great pace BUT the tour director that was assigned to be with our small group added nothing to the experience. He did not give us any info, tell us about what we were seeing, give us any info at all. The only time he talked was to tell us when the next bathroom break would be. Apparently this is common for Globus to use retirees starting another chapter. Our guide was 76 and had no energy. Travel with Gate 1 or Intreped.... guides can make or break a tour."

What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

Hobart, Tasmania, Wellington

Highlights

  • This is the ultimate in low impact, local travel, supporting regional communities and getting right to the heart of the landscape on two feet.
  • There’s no need for a map or GPS on this walking trip – with an expert local leader that knows the area inside-out, all you have to do is enjoy the journey.
  • Escape the everyday, get active, and take the time to reconnect with nature in one of Australia’s – and the world’s – most beautiful coastal regions.
  • The only thing better than the landscapes and wildlife you’ll see are the conversations you’ll have along the way, whether it’s the insights from your leader or stories from the group.
  • Find a slice of paradise in your own backyard along the Cape Queen Elizabeth walk, Labillardiere Peninsula, Fluted Cape track and on a hike to the top of Hartz Peak.

Different Ways to Tour Australia

Explore Australia through various means of travel, each offering a unique perspective on this vast and diverse land.

  • Cruises: Embark on a scenic cruise along Australia's coastline, exploring destinations like the Great Barrier Reef and Sydney Harbour. Companies like Princess Cruises offer itineraries that visit iconic ports such as Melbourne, Brisbane, and Cairns.
  • Driving Tours: Hit the open road on a self-drive adventure, traversing iconic routes like the Great Ocean Road or the Red Centre Way. Rent a car from reputable companies and explore at your own pace, stopping to admire natural wonders like Uluru or stunning coastal vistas.
  • Train Journeys: Experience the beauty of Australia's landscapes from the comfort of a train carriage. The Indian Pacific train journey traverses the continent from Sydney to Perth, offering luxurious accommodations and breathtaking views of the Outback. Alternatively, explore the lush rainforests of Queensland aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway, winding through the UNESCO-listed Barron Gorge National Park.
Souvenirs from Australia

Buying souvenirs from a destination allows us to take a piece of our vacation home. While Australia may appear similar to the U.S. or England, this vast country has its own unique features you may want to take home with you.

  1. Opals: Australia is known for having some of the best opals in the world. They are of high quality and make for a great gift.
  2. Tim Tams: A true Australian treat, Tim Tams are chocolate-covered biscuits often paired with Australia's favorite beverage, coffee.
  3. Vegemite: One of Australia's more interesting food choices, Vegemite is a thick black spread used for toast. It is an acquired taste, and those who have never tasted it may find it tart and tangy.
  4. Boomerangs: We all have seen the movies of Aussies throwing boomerangs, but they are one of the country's most famous icons and a pretty neat object to take home with you.
  5. UGG Boots: The most famous souvenir is sheepskin UGG boots worn around the country. They are primarily used indoors in Australia as slippers and not for outdoors, but wear switched when they gained popularity in other parts of the world.
