Interesting and educational trip. August 2016

Thai Indochina Explorer

A fabulous holiday with a great group of people. Would now love to go back and see more of Vietnam.
I felt that I had gaps in my education completed about the effect of the American war on both Vietnam and Cambodia. Also the absolute devastation of Pol Pot's reign was made clear. The Exodus booklist was useful but in particular read 'First they Killed my Father' (about Cambodia) if you go on this trip.
The afternoon of the day we arrived in Vietnam as the group was taking time to readjust to the time differences, we took a walking trip through Ho Ch Min City and ended up sitting for a rest in the park where we saw lots of groups being taught English in the open air. We sat for a rest on a bench and looked down to see that a whole group of enthusiastic teenage girls had sat around us and their teacher asked if they could practice their English conversation with us. Spent a lovely half hour with them.
The Mekong Home stay visit and the surrounding area was great fun.

The Vietnamese and the Bangkok group leaders were the usual Exodus excellent standard. The Cambodian leader was good but could do with some development, which I will share with Exodus as I am convinced of their usual high standards and training. Cambodia has suffered a huge loss of the educated people and schooling due to the Pol Pot era and it is therefore not surprising that education and developmental standards may have suffered.

Even having visited India there are still cultural shocks in Cambodia.

Another great holiday with Exodus.

Jewish Morocco December 2015

Amazing Thailand

This was a private tour arranged by two synagogues to explore Jewish Morocco. Our guide Rashid was superb, very patient and quite flexible in accommodating some changes. We also had with us an expatriate from Morocco who also added to the experiences. All told a very informative eye opener to the Islamic and Jewish societies within Morocco. Highly recommended especially with our guide as tour director. Read more

The places and activities between Bangkok and Chiangmai Mai were not consistent with the cost of the trip. I felt that cost cutting was the driver in selecting activities. I expected more value.

Cycle Indochina August 2016

Cycle Indochina & Angkor

This is a great trip. The first few days featured the most challenging cycling, which I enjoyed although the scenery was not particularly interesting. I would have prefered more cycling in Cambodia and Vietnam which were more scenic. However I did think the trip offers a good balance of cycling and sightseeing. There are not too many bus transfers, although I would have prefered to pay $40 to fly to Phnom Pen from Siem Reap rather than the 9 hour bus ride! The Thai backup team were superb and made the first few days cycling a joy and meant that we could all cycle at our own pace. There was less backup in Cambodia and Vietnam which together with busier roads meant we had to stick together, which was frustrating at times. The Cambodian and Vietnamese guides were not as good. The Vietnamese guide was inexperienced at leading cycle tours, which did lead to one or two safety issues, plus he left as soon as we reached Saigon, which was a pity as we had no local guide to show us around the city.
There were lots! Angkor Wat didn't disappoint. However it will be the Killing Fields and S21 that I will always remember.
Rit, our group leader did an excellent job. Exceptionally friendly and always cheerful. He was extemely well organised and made sure everyone's needs were met.

The trip notes state that vegetarians are well catered for, however this is untrue unless you are happy for your food to be cooked in meat stock and contain fish sauce. There were several occasions where I had to go without meals.
Take a spare USB or SD card, as Mr Black takes many fantastic shots on the Thailand leg and will transfer these for you.
A gel saddle is a must!
Remember to take a spare passport photo for your Cambodian visa.
The laundry services offered are very good and cheap.
It would be a good idea to telephone Exodus and determine the demographic of the group before booking. We were fortunate that our group were mostly of similar age and fitness level. Although nobody minded waiting, it would have been frustrating if there had been a significant difference in pace.
Having done similar tours before, we were surprised by the low standards of cleanliness in some of the hotels. It did feel as if Exodus has scrimped on the accommodation offered as there were better alternatives.
