What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

"The trip was well laid out. Tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The only complaint is some of our travel documents that were sent out were not in English. If your sending documents out correspondence should be in both the native language and the language of the people the correspondence to. Other than that a great first time experience."

Barcelona Tour Selection Trips

  • For visiting La Sagrada Familia, make sure you either book ahead of time or get priority access tour that lets you skip the line. There are about 2 million visitors to the Sagrada Familia a year and if you’re not keen to wait in line for hours like we are, it is highly suggested to pay a little more and enjoy a 1 hour tour of the inside of the cathedral without the wait.
  • If you want more undivided attention for La Sagrada Familia or any other of Gaudi’s works that are intricate and detailed, book a private tour that can spend longer times on the parts that interest you
  • Getting up early and visiting some top attractions such as Park Guell and Montserrat is also immensely helpful when you want to avoid the long lines under the basking sun.
  • If you want to make the most of your time, we highly suggest to pick a combo skip-the-line tour to La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and a walking tour cultural highlights such as the Gothic Quarter.
  • Make sure you pack durable and comfortable sneakers since Barcelona is best explored on foot around its winding and narrow cobbled pathways.
  • Keep your bags close and be cautious for pickpockets, a problem that surrounds the touristy city of Barcelona.

Additional details

Best Time to Visit Barcelona

The best time to visit Barcelona is wholly dependent on what you as a traveler are looking for. Barcelona is one of those cities that has something resonant for everyone, in every time of the year, so it is important you pick what kind of season suits you best.

If you’re looking for cool, breezy and sunny days pact of full of visiting wineries and museums with fellow tourists sprawled across the city, spring is a wonderful choice. It is probably the most popular choice out of the seasons before fall since the city becomes extremely hot and claustrophobic anytime after May.

If you’re interested to experience festivals, especially music festivals, or you’re planning to visit many of Barcelona’s gorgeous beaches, summer would be ideal. Since tourism would be at its peak, there would be more activities available and you would enjoy Barcelona at its busiest and most bolstering time.

Fall in Barcelona is a slower pace. The months of August and October are a more relaxed period where locals come back from escaping the heat and the atmosphere shifts into a more authentic feel. Although rain showers are likely to happen, fall is a great time for art lovers to visit less packed museums, go mushroom picking, take in the fall scenery and enjoy the gastronomy of the Catalan capital without much lines or people around.

Winter in Barcelona is a unique cultural experience as the city transforms into festivity with specific Catalan traditions and foods. It’s cheaper than the rest of the seasons for hotels and tours, and museums open up, such as the MACBA, with interesting exhibitions that are only available in this season.

Do most Spain Tours Visit Barcelona?

Most Spain tours definitely do not miss Barcelona. It is one of the major cities and biggest art hub marked unique by its one of a kind architecture, churches and Catalan pride, traditions and cuisine. This is a prime destination for many tours that explore the multifaceted sides of the city, be it food, football, parks, beaches and its gothic style carved around the city. Sightseeing in Las Ramblas, La Sagrada Familia, the Salvador Dali Museum and Gaudi sites are especially popular and filled with historic culture.

Is Barcelona Safe?

Barcelona is absolutely safe and family friendly. There is nothing to worry about when walking around the cobbled pathways that thread around Barcelona, day or night, or using public transportation. Violent crimes are rare and perhaps the only crime common to look out for as a tourist is pick pocketing.

Make sure to wear durable sneakers for walking and anti-theft secured bags around Las Ramblas, train stations or major tourist attractions. It is also important to note that the city of Barcelona has been politically tense as of late, with pro-independance riots by many Catalans that have turned violent in the past. This is no reason to cancel your trip, but to just be cautious and avoid any political activities that may bolster.
