Cycling the Danube??? November 2016

Cycling The Danube: Vienna to Budapest

My son and I cycled from Vienna to Budapest in early June. We had a great time. The accommodation was fabulous all the way and the cycles were high quality. The map and other information was very helpful and although we didn't need it, help would have been at hand if anything had gone wrong. Most of the cycling we did was on quiet roads or cycle lanes which made us feel fairly safe. My only warning to prospective cyclists on this holiday is just to point out that not much of it is actually along the Danube, probably because there just isn't a decent path going along it I guess. Our highlight was Gyor. Never heard of it? We hadn't either but it's a real gem. Bratislava is really charming and Budapest is a city built on a grand scale. Vienna? We weren't so impressed. Just a little bit too la di dah for our taste but a city you have to see especially if like us you are big fans of "The Third Man." Yes, the wheel is still there and yes we did go on it. You have to, right?
Getting to the end. This is strictly cycling for beginners, but that is what we were and it was a relief to get home unharmed.

Cycling Vietnam

Highly recommend this Exodus trip to anyone (even with basic fitness). Go alone or with friends. Tour guides, food, accommodation and the supplied bikes were fantastic. Riding through the countryside and along the coast was the highlight. Friendly and safe journey. Read more

CYCLING THE EMPIRE OF GENGHIS KHAN August 2016

Cycling in Mongolia

Beautiful countryside, fantastic cycling and wild horses galore!
there is nothing quite like waking up to the sound of wild horses galloping past your tent.  A sound I hope I never forget.  Second only to seeing them gallop past our bikes/toilets/campsite!
looking up... day and night! some of the most beautiful stars I have ever seen... and some of the biggest blue skys!

Gana ran a tight ship, everything worked as it should.  He wasn't quite as fit as I thought he would be, and didn't volunteer as much information about the local area/wildlife as I would have liked.
I couldn't speak more highly off all of the other staff, really fantastic.

Make sure you are fit when you go, it will make the trip so much more enjoyable. (although the support bus is there if you need it).
The bikes were great, and I didn't used an additional gel seat, but if you have a favourite saddle- its worth taking!
Down jacket and sleeping bag are a must for the September departure- we had lows of minus 5 at night.
The atmosphere is quite dry out there, I was very glad I took a few luxury moisturisers!

This trip was the perfect combination if physical challenge, wilderness and luxury for me.   The cycling was fantastic, not too technical (if you are used to cycling off road), the distances just enough to make you feel that you had earnt your dinner.. and talking of food.. YUMM!
Mongolia has so much to offer- especially when you get out of the towns.  Loved it.

Good food, good scenery, bikes, what's not to like? August 2016

Cycle Kerala & Tropical India

Great trip
We were taking a few minutes to visit an ancient church, and while we were there, got invited in (more like press-ganged, actually) to a wedding party that was going on in the church hall... not only did they try to get us to eat with them, we ended up on the stage where the bride and groom were greeting groups of guests in turn - and thereby got included in the wedding photos, in full lycra :-).

Joseph did an excellent job of both leading the group on the road and helping us enjoy the other aspects of the trip - for example suggesting the typical cuisine of the specific area we were in to try.

If G&T is your thing, pick up a bottle of gin in duty free...the local stuff is less than entirely great...

The second half of the trip down the coast is pretty samey, with little variety of scenery. Some of this cycling could sensibly be removed and either the trip shortened or something else added in its place.
