STRIDE TRAVEL ANNOUNCES NEW PRODUCT CATEGORY FOR TRAVELERS 100+:

Worldwide Adventures Worthy of, and For, Your Great-Grandfather

SAN FRANCISCO, CA April 1, 2015--Today, Travelstride announced the addition of a brand new trip category for their guided travel and small-ship cruise metasearch site: Centenarian Adventures.  Stride has created this new category in response to the surging demand from 'super seniors' for high thrills adventure tours fueled by new breakthroughs like Soarozine, a recently FDA approved drug, similar to Viagra, that makes people 100 plus feel young and spry.

Gavin Delany, Stride’s cofounder & CEO says, “We’re quite excited to be an early adopter in this category. Stride was originally created to serve the needs of the baby boomer demographic, but why stop there! Travelers over 100 deserve a trip style entirely for themselves and Stride is here to support them.”  Stride’s VP of Marketing Jared Alster added, “With 100+ travelers growing faster than any other age group, its about time they have their own category.”

Stride is collaborating with top tour operators in the guided travel industry that have created new products to fill the consumer demand. What is a centenarian adventure?  They run the gamut.  One leading adventure operator says its most popular 100+ trip is an 8-day version of the popular ‘Inca Trail trek’ from Cusco to the fabled ruins of Machu Picchu. There is, of course, one catch for the centegenarians - the passengers will be carried, every step of the way, on the shoulders of local porters.  Antonio Fernandez, a 15-year veteran porter on the trail says, "Si, it’s not too different from usual. We've had to carry loads of over 50 kilos for a long time.  We highly respect our elders in Peru, and consider carrying the abuelitos (little grandparents) our duty and honor.  It helps that most of these older clients are lighter than the food we have to carry for the hungry, hefty younger crowd.”

Continuing the trend, one river cruise line offers exciting day excursions, including sky-diving, on its 100+ only voyages. Fran Wilson, of Saratoga, Florida, 107, says, "Well… sonny, 100 is the new 80. I can skydive like a champion. Well, as long as I’m jumping tandem with a handsome young gentlemen like last time. I quite enjoyed landing on a springy young 25 year-old. My bones might not have enjoyed the landing otherwise."

While most operators cannot legally create a maximum age on their trips, the minimum age for Centenarian Adventures will be 100.  Frank Johnston, 101, of Tempe, Arizona, says "we don't want those 75-year old whippersnappers on our tour.  We like to travel with other people who know our needs, like cleaning your travel dentures and moving at a more ‘civilized’ pace, and who respect our sense of adventure.”

Stride is launching the new category live on their site today.
