Our Hiring Process

Our hiring process is designed to help us find the best and the brightest. We want you to be as hungry and passionate as we are about travel, startups, and helping people of all stripes see the world.

  1. Phone screen

    1. This is a 20-30 minute call to go over the basics of what you’re looking for, and the expectations of the role. Our aim is to save everyone time by ensuring the basics line up.

    2. We will also cover some housekeeping items in this call, such as any upcoming vacations you may have.

  1. Writing sample / personal essay

    1. Now, we know not everyone is a writer. But it’s important to us to get a sense of your level of self awareness. Not everyone thrives thinking on the spot in face to face interviews. Culture fit is important, so we ask all our candidates to contribute a short personal essay (250 words minimum) telling us which of the Travelstride Company Values they identify with the strongest.

    2. We are not judging your prose (unless writing is relevant for the job), so don’t worry about it sounding beautiful.

    3. For some roles, namely in content marketing, we will also require a 500 word writing sample to gauge your ability to write for SEO

  1. In person interviews

    1. If we receive your written submission and it feels like a good fit, we will invite you into our office for a round of interviews with the hiring manager, other team members, and our CEO.

    2. This will give you a chance to get to know us, our office space, and ask us questions as well.

    3. Some questions you can expect include:

  • Your favorite travel experience
  • How you approach your workflow and prioritization
  • What you’ve enjoyed about a past or current job
  • What has your current/prior manager done well
  • How you plan to approach accomplishing the primary goals of your prospective role
  • Tell us about a time you faced a difficult challenge and how you handled it
  • Tell us about an accomplishment you are most proud of

  1. Reference and background checks

    1. Once you’ve passed the interviews section we will check multiple references. These may be your former managers, coworkers, teachers or other people that know you in a professional context.

    2. We may ask you for references but we will also reach out and contact others based on your resume. Our aim is to get a true picture of everyone’s real strengths and weaknesses as well as ensure everything you told us on your resume and interviews is accurate.

    3. Don’t worry, we’re not perfect either - and we don’t expect you to be. Honesty and self awareness is most important to us.

  1. Offer

    1. If we determine there is a mutual fit and you are the best candidate for the role, we will call you to discuss your offer details including comp details

A note on timing:

One of our core values is Speed. However, another one is Arete - or excellence. The people we invite on this voyage with us are super important. We aim to do the process as quickly as possible to get the best decision - often going from first resume submission to offer in less than 2 weeks. But sometimes if you apply during the beginning of our search process or key people in the hiring process are working on other time sensitive projects it may take longer. Rest assured, we are not playing games. If at any time you want to check in with us and the process please do. We aim to be proactive with communicating about the timeline but we don’t have a full-time recruiting person yet and we aren’t perfect.
