Visits

Abu Simbel, Amman, Aswan, Cairo, Dead Sea, Jerash, Jordan Valley, Little Petra, Luxor, Luxor Temple, Madaba, Nubian Desert, Petra, Pyramid of Giza, Sphinx, Temple of Karnak, Valley of the Kings, Wadi Rum, West Bank

Highlights

  • Take a memorable kayak along the Nile with a unique active experience, paddling through ancient landscapes.
  • Witness some epic sights in Cairo, like the mysterious Sphinx and one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Great Pyramids of Giza. Maybe even learn how to spell your name in hieroglyphics!
  • Sleep under the stars at a Bedouin-style camp in Wadi Rum with all the creature comforts, waking for a stunning sunrise and a thrill-seeking 4WD adventure.
  • Only Petra’s Treasury – one of the Seven Wonders of the World – is stunning enough to be the temple of the Holy Grail. Your pass to this sacred site lasts two full days so that you can explore every nook and cranny at your own pace.
  • See the lowest point on earth – the Dead Sea – and float in its famously salty waters, soaking up its healing minerals and lathering yourself in the rejuvenating mud (if the mood strikes).

What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

Visits

Kathmandu, Pokhara

Highlights

  • Get wet and wild on a whitewater rafting adventure on the Trisuli River (the most popular river in Nepal for rafting), where you’ll zoom downstream next to giant boulders and gorges and between bright green hills.
  • Stretch your legs on an awesome three-night, low-altitude trek through rural villages and rhododendron forests, taking in some pretty amazing sights of the Annapurna Ranges.
  • Kick back in super-Zen Pokhara, where you can take a boat out and float the day away on the smooth waters of Phewa Lake. Cruise beneath behemoth mountains and find serenity.
  • Start and end your trip in the bustling metropolis of Kathmandu – explore Durbar Square, wander the chaotic streets or simply kick back with a relaxing massage to soothe those post-four-day-hike feels.
  • Enjoy some local hospitality with a homestay with a local family in Hemjakot – this community’s architecture reflects the traditional style of the Himalayas. Get an insight into countryside culture as you take in the views from a traditional teahouse.

Highlights

  • Tick off a colossal bucket list opportunity and take on the bonding experience of a lifetime. This trip gives you the chance to do Everest with like-minded travellers your own age.
  • It’s not (just) about the mountains on this Everest Base Camp trip – you’ll hike past everything from alpine lakes and glacial plains to frothy rivers and valleys covered in pink blossoms.
  • Hike with an experienced and passionate English-speaking local leader as well as a team of guides and porters who will introduce you to incredible Sherpa culture and history along the way.
  • Travel with a company that partners with local mountaineering and porter welfare programs, so you can trek easier knowing that while your porters are taking care of you, someone is looking out for them.
  • Soak up loads of free time to mingle with the locals and find the perfect keepsake. Use the time in between treks to play games with your new friends, explore Namche Bazaar and toast to an unforgettable adventure.

What travelers are saying

"We spent two wonderful weeks touring several of the best destinations in Portugal & Spain with a group of 16 people. Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

Budget Travel Tour Selection Trips

  • Shop around. When paying for anything from flights to accommodation to luggage to a place to eat, the first price you find is unlikely to be the cheapest.
  • Do as the locals do. Eating at local cafes or street stalls instead of restaurants and traveling by local bus instead of taxi will not only stretch your budget further, but will give you a more authentic experience of the country too.
  • Choose your destinations wisely. Obviously traveling in Southeast Asia is going to be far cheaper than traveling in Europe, but a little research will show that Cambodia is also cheaper than Vietnam.
  • Significant discounts on accommodations and activities are often available during the off season. Student discounts may also be available, especially in Europe and the Americas, and some travel companies issue an intentionally recognized student card (ISIC) for those under 26 (even non-students).
  • If you're trying to stretch your budget, then accept a certain level of discomfort. You may not have a hot shower, or gourmet meals, or a private room, but it's worth it when it means you get to travel longer for less.
  • Have a splurge day every now and again. Treat yourself to a tasty meal, a softer bed, or whatever comfort you have been craving.
  • Consider working or volunteering abroad. It's a great way to travel without having to spend too much. Even if paid employment is hard to come by, you can often find work in exchange for a room or meals.
  • Don't become a slave to your budget! It's easy to fall into the habit of saying "I can't do that, it's too expensive.” But if you say this too often, you may return home having missed out on some once in a lifetime opportunities.
