Stunning Scenery August 20164.0
Walking on the glacier and the ferry trip up the Inside Passage (long but well worth it) were the highlights for me.
Alex was excellent and worked hard to ensure that all members of the group had options for activities suitable for them.
This is an active holiday with opportunities to go hiking - I'm not sure this was clear to some of the people booking through different companies onto the holiday so adjustments had to be made for them by to group leader.
The itinerary followed was not exactly as described in the trip notes - a visit to Lake Louise and Lake Moraine were done on the day the notes said we would go to Banff and the visit to Banff took place prior to driving to Calgary. It was good to see the lakes and have to opportunity to do some walking but this needs to be changed on the trip notes. It would be good to have some more time in Banff to explore the town.

Best of Eastern Canada end Montreal July 20173.0
There were not enough optional tours overall! for example instead of having 4 free hours in Ottawa, provide some optional tours to do. When you don't know where everything is and what to see the optional tours provide a suggestion of what to do. I found this was a problem in all the cities visited...
Mount Royal's panoramic view in Montreal was disappointing. The trees blocked most of the views!!
On our way to the Ottawa cruise we saw some sculptures made from trees. We firstly asked the driver if we could stop by them after the cruise to view and take pics of these since there was nothing planned afterwards - 4 hours free time til dinner. HE advised us to speak to Kirsten. She wasn't accommodating or flexible in allowing us to view it. Her words were - we will drive slowly by them as we go back to city. Instead she opted to go a different way back missing it all together.
After all the dinners we were taken straight back to the hotel. Would of been nice to take a drive and possible walk around the cities to discover their nightlife instead of arriving 9.30PM at hotel. This could have been an optional tour for each city with the dinners involved.... At Niagara she offered to drop anyone off near the falls but that's it.
I believe Kirsten felt 9.30pm was her knock off time. A great tour guide will show extra things to thus get extra gratuities.... Read more
WHALES & BEARS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA August 20163.0
I don't know about inspirational, but the highlights for me were snorkelling near the harbour seal haul-out and being joined by a pup in the water, and also an unexpected sighting of a family North American river otters when we got back to the harbour in Nanaimo. Also seeing a mother and cub grizzly bear at Orford River and the sightings of orcas and lots of pacific white-sided dolphins on the boat journey to and from the bears. And encountering a mother raccoon and three kits in Stanley Park, Vancouver city.
The stay at the Canadian Princess resort at Ucluelet was lovely - relaxing and a home from home.
Jo was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a good fixer. She is extremely communicative and chatty.
Be prepared to help with lifting your luggage on and off the roof rack of the minibus each time the group moves hotels, and pack a bit lighter to make this job easier.
Canada is very expensive, so budget plenty for eating out/buying food (no meals are included in this trip). In British Columbia you need to add on a sales tax of 12% and (if eating out) a tip of 18% which is in practice mandatory and often goes straight on the bill, so everything is effectively 30% more than the menu price. If you're veggie, choice is pretty limited when eating out, so consider doing some food shopping once there so some of your meals can be 'DIY' in your hotel room.We were blessed with beautiful weather and Jo had the idea of collecting money for a kitty to buy picnic food which worked really well (but wouldn't if it rained a lot!), so we got 6 picnic lunches for CAD40 which was good value.
Apart from the lovely Canadian Princess resort the hotels were a disappointment with a couple of them quite poor, but this was the first time this trip had run and I'm sure this will be resolved for next time.
Customer service from the Exodus staff has been good throughout.
