Trip Type Trip Type Classic Tour Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.
Small Group Guided Experiences Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.
River Cruise These vessels are smaller than most ocean cruisers, limiting which amenties are available. Passenger counts can vary. One of the biggest advantages of a river cruise is the ability to dock at smaller ports and local villages.
Small Ocean Cruise Small ship cruises usually have a max passenger count of 500. The primary purpose of these trips is to spend time off the vessel in local ports (e.g. Mediterranean) or experiencing nature (e.g Galapagos or Antarctica). Cabins can vary from budget to luxury.
Private Tour Private tours give you the undivided attention of a guide, and often involve special access to sites and unique experiences not available to larger groups. This is a great option for families, couples, and small friend groups. Expect to pay a bit more for the extra service.
Independent Package A travel company plans your itinerary and arranges all the logistics including lodging, local activities, and transportantion. You have the flexibility of a solo trip while still getting the convience and time savings of expert planning. Get 90% of the benefits of a tour, without a guide.
Vacation / Holiday Package Similar to a self guided tour, this usually involves a home base, such as a hotel or resort, with packaged activities and day tours as a part of the stay.
Large Ocean Cruise This is the "floating city" experience, with multiple ways to enjoy your vacation aboard the ship as much as on land. Ships are multiple floors, provide several activities, culinary, and shopping options. They often make fewer stops and have less time available for shore excursions.

Tour Styles

Lodging Level Lodging Level Camping Typically involves most nights sleeping in tents (sometimes permanent tented sites) or in rustic cabins and lodges.
Basic - 2 star You'll stay in no-frills, but clean and comfortable, hotels or guesthouses. A 'Basic' trip might also involve a few nights of camping.
Value - 3 star Mid-range budget with accommodations ranging from comfortable lodges, guesthouses, and homestays to three star hotels.
Premium - 4 star 3 to 4 star western hotel equivalents. While not all lodging will be 'luxury' they will be quite comfortable by western standards.
Luxury - 5 star The highest level of comfort and service. All accomodations are in four or five star hotels, boutique lodges or high-end homestays.

"Visiting patagonia was a long held dream. It lived up to my expectations from an cultural and environmental point of view. The Patagonian step has presence like no other i have experienced in many years of travel.

I suggest to other travelers to do as much as you can in your time available. You may never get the
chance again.

I had a very good holiday. Some challenges with language as my spanish is minimal, but very enjoyable,"

Great care and service from Agama Tours and Safaris. From first mail communication was fast and helpful. Kabalo and Lara helped customized our perfect private safari in Tanzania. 8 days including Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The lodges, tent camps, and transportation were all excellent. We are still in disbelief to how amazing our guide was, Emanuel. A professional animal finder, knowledgable, passionate and above all, wonderful friend we have made. I would recommend to anyone traveling to Tanzania!

Via Ferrata - Give it a try!

The Dolomites is a truly spectacular mountain range. The chance to ascend up the mountain range on established Via Ferrata routes was unforgettable. We traversed beneath waterfalls, through tunnels, up exposed craggy rock-faces and to the top of peaks over 2000m.
We completed the hardest Via Ferrata on the last day of the trip, the Col del Bos. It was a incredible ascent steeped in history with caves and the border of Austria in view during the trek. A suiting finale to the trip.

Our leader was Toni. He is a calm, steady and experienced presence throughout the trip. He offered his knowledge and his help on the most tricky area's of the Via Ferrata and I felt very safe with him guiding the trip.

I would advise to bring both full length and "mountain biking" style gloves, the Via Ferrata wires can be very cold to grip on the topmost peaks. Longer trousers on the Via Ferrata days to protect from scratches/bruising as well.
On the free day, I would recommend travellers to rent a bike from Dolomiti Slowbike (10 minute walk away) for approx 15 EUR. There is a 100% traffic free cycle path where you can cross the border to Leinz on a flat cycle route. You'll cycle straight pass the Loacker (biscuit) factory where you can stop for souvenirs and a hot drink + pastry.

The hotel is cosy and very well situated in central Dobbiaco. The 4 course dinners are delicious and filling after a long day on the mountain. The guides are very knowledgeable and I cannot recommend this trip enough for anyone who wants to enjoys scrambling and wants to try something different.

Climbing & Mountaineering Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro? How about some serious Himalaya action? Maybe you're eyeing Cotopaxi in Ecuador or Pico Duarte in the Dominican Republic?? The Rockies in the U.S. and Canada always beckon, as do the smaller Munros of Scotland. If there's a climbable mountain, you can probably find an outfitter to take you there. We'll help.

There’s are few things better than cresting a ridge to find yourself on the top of a mountain. Whether it be five or fifteen thousand feet, reaching a peak is both a literal and metaphorical accomplishment. Luckily for amateur climbers and mountaineers, there are no lack of mountains around the world, and many climbing trips can be combined with other guided or adventure travel itineraries for non-climbing travel companions.

Popular Climbing Destinations

The United States offers many options for climbers and mountaineers - from the granite slabs in Yosemite National Park to Washington State’s volcanoes, including Mount Rainier, there is something for every ability and skill level. Farther afield, Mexico invites climbers from around the world to experience their volcanoes, including Orizaba and Popocatepetl, both of which are within close proximity to the museums and culinary delights of Mexico City.

Further south, the Andes mountains include gems like Cotapaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador, Chopaqualki and Yannapancha in Peru, and Aconcagua in Argentina, standing as the tallest mountain in the Western Hemisphere at nearly 23,000 ft (7,000 meters). A classic trip would be to pair the flair of Buenos Aires plus the wine and culinary mecca of Mendoza with an exhilarating summit bid on Aconcagua, which requires a minimal amount of climbing experience.

Of course, every mountaineer dreams of stepping foot on the massive, storied, and sacred peaks of the Himalaya, especially in Nepal. Everest, which is reserved only for those with extensive high-altitude climbing experience, is far from the only famous mountain in the region. For begineer climbers, try the ‘trekking’ peaks of Island Peak and Lobuche. For the more experienced, Ama Dablam beckons with it’s near perfect conical form and location just off the main trekkers route to Everest Base Camp.

Questions to Ask Your Tour Company

Once you’ve decided on your destination, there are a few key pieces of information you’ll want to obtain from your chosen climbing guide. What meals are included? What personal climbing equipment is required and what can be rented on site? Are the guides all certified mountain guides with First Aid and/or Wilderness First Aid training?

What is the acclimatization plan (pace of the climb). Are there any tour options for non-climbing partners or travel companions? For example, many operators offer trekking options in the same region where climbers will be attempting their summit bid. All in all, a climbing trip can leave you exhausted but filled with a deep sense of personal accomplishment as you push your physical boundaries further than you ever thought possible.
