Colon Itineraries

This trip around the South Island was amazing! Dan and Brogan, our tour guides, were so knowledgable about everything you could imagine about the island. From native plants and animals, to culture, food, environment, and experiences, Dan and Brogan never fell short of fun and interesting facts.
Views were spectacular, food was pretty good (vegan options sometimes fell a little short when eating out, but when food was made by Brogan and Dan it was a strong 11/10), and hikes were really nice (I would rate this trip closer to a 2-3 level instead of a 3-4).
Active also did a really great job of planning in the face of unforeseen events; when there was a record breaking storm and the roads were flooded in all directions, we got evacuated by helicopter to our next destination and were right back on track to continue our trip.
This trip was amazing and I cant wait to come back to New Zealand!

The guides managed to keep calm and spirits up despite NZ enduring the worst weather for 25 years. The plans had to change several times, but we still managed to cover most of the itinerary. This is a long trip and the distances covered are large, so some days you're spending a lot of time on the bus.

Highlights were kayaking in Milford Sound which is worth the journey.

Sam and Tash were excellent. I appreciated the effort to have quality and healthy food.

The 5-day

Trekking across a somewhat crooked line across the Southern Island of New Zealand I experienced just about every climate one could possibly imagine. I knew from my grandparents the landscape was going to be spectacular, and it absolutely was. I fell in love with everything about New Zealand; the Alps, home to the majestic Mt. Cook and the breathtaking iridescent blue glacial waters of Lake Tekapo, the take your breath away view as you emerge from the Homer Tunnel into a surreal basin of massive, rugged, towering cliffs adorned with endless waterfalls, the most rewarding and dramatic views climbing through scree slopes and scrambling over boulders on the Angelus Circuit to a mountain hut among the clouds, to journeying through lush green moss covered beech forests mesmerized by the uniquely melodic sounds of the native Tui. Alas, if this doesn't entice you to consider an Active New Zealand Adventure consider this, every little detail from meal planning, choosing comfortable accommodations and mastering driving on the other side of the road is all taken care of by professional, knowledgeable, personable and engaging guides. It's cliche, but, this was a trip of a lifetime.
