A wonderful trip!

I travelled with my 23 yr old daughter and we had a great time. Lots of superlatives which have been covered by reviewers below, so I will not repeat them, but suffice to say that this trip exceeded both our expectations in terms of the amazing variation in landscape in the iconic National Parks visited, and the diversity of activities - ranging from exciting hikes, to laying on the ground in Death Valley looking at the Night Sky. Never a dull moment - and our guide inserted little surprises at regular intervals. Perhaps meeting our inspirational Navajo guide in Monument Valley and learning about her childhood and culture. But lots to inspire both of us .... Joseph Spaid was an incredible leader. He was so knowledgable, approachable, engaging and fun. He was very interesting to chat to, and worked so hard to make sure everyone’s needs were met. We were quite a disparate crowd of 11, some very experienced hikers, others recovering from recent injury, but he found ways to embrace that - I wish I had his energy! Take a brolly as sun shade for Death Valley! And rehydration tabs/powder when it's really hot. We all used it and had no problem with overheating even in August. You get dusty walking so plenty of walking gear - it is a busy trip and there wasn’t much time for washing. I was pleased to have my poles in Zion and the Grand Canyon for long (albeit beautiful) uphill stretches. I would definitely advise a few days in San Francisco before joining the trip. It is an incredible city. Our flight from Heathrow was delayed by 28 hours, so we missed one of our three planned days, but we still were well able to meet up with the Group on Sunday. Las Vegas didn’t appeal to us, so we didn’t stay at the end, and we in time to fly out on the same night. The helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon was just extraordinary! As an introduction to SW America, this trip takes some beating. It was fantastic. Thank you Exodus and Grand American Adventures!!

A magical trip! One of my best ever!

This trip far exceeded my expectations on every level. The underwater wildlife encounters were superior to any other snorkeling I've done. There's an abundance of things to see and coupled with the chance to scuba dive and excellent water conditions - it's a top notch destination. The boat was very comfortable, the crew was excellent and took care of every need, and the food was awesome. Ranks as one of my all-time favorites!

The National Parks

Very busy , hugely interesting itinerary. Some quite breathtaking scenery, with opportunities for physical activity in order to experience it more fully. Very good tour leader, experienced, knowledgeable and well organised. Tour group (9 of us) , various ages and experiences, combined well. A great experience. Hard to pick one particular moment or event. Perhaps the experience of Yosemite: view of the valley from Glacier Point, variety of hikes, and also appreciating the national park beyond the valley itself. Very good. See above. Some long days in the bus, but that doesn't have to be a problem- it can just mean that you see more.

This tour needs some re-structuring

Although advertised as a National Geographic tour, this G Adventures tour cannot match the high standard one would expect from Nat Geo. Our young driver/ tour guide did her best, but was no naturalist. She gave a bare minimum of info on our long drives and mostly just played music inside our bus. A couple of activities actually led by naturalists (our Sequoia guide & Monterey Aquarium guide) were excellent. And the marine biologist on the booked Whale Watch was excellent too. But much of the rest of this tour was disappointing in comparison with other small group tours we've taken. I could go into extensive detail, but there is too much to say. I'll give just one example: the lack of specific dates, times and accommodations on our itinerary. We were promised the "Wuksachi Lodge or similar" in Sequoia National Park but arrived at John Muir Lodge in King's Canyon instead. Now, anyone who has visited Sequoia will know that the John Muir is in no way "similar" to the Wuksachi, Sequoia's signature lodge and one of the reasons I chose G Adventures for this tour. All in all, this trip was a big disappointment.
3.0 • Disappointing

This trip is amazing and well worth it. We chose the luxury option and could not have been more pleased.

This trip was a bucket list trip. We were thrilled with the amount of detail and planning that G Adventures put into this. It was amazing. there was a perfect mix of urban meets rural. The Safari's were spectacular. The wild life interaction was more than we bargained for. The lodges were very accommodating and the service beyond compare. Our CEO (guide) was very knowledgeable and in tune with everyone's needs. We chose to stay in Zambia a 3 days after the scheduled trip. Most of our souvenirs were found here. The night entertainment was great. We believe that group guided trips are not for every vacation. This one is definitely one to let G Adventures do the research and planning for you. Just go and relax there is a lot to enjoy.

Amazing and beyond expectation

The tour started in Bali and ended there. From day 1, it was full of adventures and wonderful vibes from everyone, all led by our knowledgeable guide Hans. He was at the center of everything and he knows the place and people everywhere which made all the visits and the daily tours fantastic. The places we visited were well chosen and the timing was paced to everyone's ability. We had to get up early for a sunrise trip to Kelimutu and this remained memorable to all of us. The Komodo Island trip with the Komodo dragoons was equally fantastic. We enjoyed the final parts of the tour with the beaches, among others the Pink Beach and the hotel on the beach in Labuan Bajo, Flores. Overall, the tour was wonderful. I would end with a special word to the guide Hans: Thank you Hans, and good luck. Dave

Specializing in small-group, multi-day adventure tours and expeditions, Toronto-based G Adventures has been a pioneer in the field since 1990. Founded by entrepreneur Bruce Poon Tip after a backpacking trip to Asia, the company fosters sustainable and environmentally sound tourism practices -- giving back to the communities they visit -- and considers its business “changig people’s lives,” not just offering a vacation. It’s since grown to become the world’s largest independent adventure travel company, with more than 1,350 employees, many of them professionally trained guides. What Makes G Adventures Stand Out? Well-balanced, all encompassing, and adventurous trips Strong engagement with local cultures Emphasis on being a responsible traveler and giving back to the community Trips that are made to be life-changing   G Adventures strives to create unique experiences for its travelers that start even before the trip itself. The company provides trip inspiration through their Looptail blog and you can connect with fellow travelers via the ‘Departure Lounge’, which is part of G’s ‘Watering Hole’ travel forum. Once on your trip, you will meet your ‘CEO’ or ‘Chief Experience Officer’ who is “responsible for enriching your journey, offering local insight, and pursuing great experiences as they happen.” Most groups average around 12 travelers, with a maximum of 16 on most trips. G Adventures has made a concerted effort to expand their offering beyond youth focused adventures, though this remains a core theme. Your Danube River Cruise will be imbued with the same culturally immersive and adventurous touch as your trekking journey through the Himalayas. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With G Adventures? Adventurous-minded and culturally curious people Moderately active people Ages 18-39 (but all ages are welcome) Solo travelers (no charge for single supplement!) Those who favor authentic experiences over luxury   If you are the kind of traveler who packs running shoes before dress shoes, hiking attire before dinner attire, and a sense of adventure before playing it safe, then G Adventures is the perfect fit for you. You love engaging with locals, meeting new people, and being spontaneous.  Most G Adventures tours have an active focus - expect to be on the move, packing a lot in. That said they do allot generous free time to explore on your own. There’s a chance you may not see every major tourist attraction in the interest of a more “real” experience. But the nice thing is if a particular site is not on the itinerary, you can use your free time to visit. If you are interested in a tour that plans every part of the itinerary down to the minute, G Adventures will probably not be the best fit for you.  Groups are geographically diverse, with a higher proportion of North Americans than some other operators.  Top Destinations    You can find G Adventures trips in most parts of the globe, including 32 countries in Europe, 25 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, 21 countries in Asia, 10 countries in South America, 12 countries in Central America and the Caribbean, five countries in North Africa and the Mideast, plus the U.S., and Canada. A number of destinations are well off the beaten track, from Sao Tome and Principe in West Africa to Borneo in east Asia to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean and both polar regions. Itineraries often focus on more off the beaten path locations; small towns, remote and rural villages, less touristy districts and sites. G Adventures Travel Style Pricing is competitive (cheaper), largely by using “grassroots” approaches: local transport and a mix of privately-owned accommodations, perhaps including homestays and camping. Efforts are made to focus on authenticity with both culinary choices (locally-owned restaurants) as well as transportation methods. G Adventures truly offers something for everyone. Trip styles include Classic, Active, Rail, YOLO (You Only Live Once - for 18-39’s), National Geographic Journeys, Marine, Family, Local Living, and Private Groups. Classic - Classic trips with G Adventures are designed for independent minded travelers who don’t want to miss anything. This is the perfect choice if you want a balanced mix of classic tourist sights and local cultural experiences. Active - Throwing it back to one of the things G Adventures does best. Kayak, walk, hike, trek; experience your destination through the outdoors. These multi-sport trips are great if you hate standing still and enjoy being out in nature. G Adventures Active tours are ideal for those who are relatively physically fit and like a challenge. Rail - A rail journey is a great way to dial it back. Take it slow and really savor the feeling of the journey. Take iconic routes and enjoy the ride. YOLO - “You only live once” is the acronym, and while G Adventures provides adventurous experiences for all, these trips are specifically designed for 18-39 year olds. Get cheeky, get wild, experience life unfettered, as you explore the culture and the local nightlife. If you have the stamina, these trips are once in a lifetime. Kind of like the age range. National Geographic Journeys - A more premium travel experience, these G Adventures trips, as part of a partnership with National Geographic Expeditions, involve the same culturally immersive approach and knowledgeable guides with an elevated level of accommodations and service. Marine - Love to be out on the water? Let G Adventures cruises take you to the far reaches of the globe via river and ocean. Experience incredible sights above and below the surface. Unpack once and enjoy the escape of being a part of the crew and passengers. Family - Adventure tours aren’t always especially friendly to younger travelers. G Adventures Family Friendly tours make adventure activities accessible for you and your youngsters! Trips often have an educational element, and are designed with multiple ages in mind. Local Living - Get to the heart of it with a homestay. These tours are designed to make you really feel at home and appreciate the feel and rhythm of living like a local. Private Groups - If you and your family, or a group of friends want the fun all to yourself, G Adventures can plan a private group trip just for you. Note: part of the culturally immersive experience when traveling with G Adventures is the use of public transportation. This means carrying your own luggage on buses, trains, etc - sometimes during commute hours! So pack light for your own comfort and the comfort of those around you. Why Choose a Tour With G Adventures? For those travelers seeking an exciting, professionally guided, and culturally immersive travel experience G Adventures is the perfect tour company to consider. Their trips are designed to be as authentic as possible - and they place much emphasis on giving back to local communities - so you’ll know your tourism dollars are going toward meaningful causes. Trips with G Adventures are not luxury by any means. But if unique experiences and active days appeal to you over a fluffy pillow then you’re in the right place. Departures are guaranteed once you’ve paid (barring significant weather or safety issues). And they don’t charge single supplements. In short, G Adventures wants you out there with them. You can find something for everyone at G Adventures; whether that’s sailing down the Danube with a glass of wine in hand, or traipsing through the rainforests of Costa Rica. FAQ 1. What kind of luggage should I bring? On many G Adventures trips it’s important to keep in mind that local public transportation is used frequently. Sometimes during commute hours! For your comfort and the comfort of those around you, it’s a good idea to pack light. Some areas will be very crowded, so take pickpocket precautions. 2. Do I need travel insurance? Yes! Travel insurance is required for all travelers on G Adventures trips. If you don’t have your own insurance already, you can purchase a plan for the time you’ll be traveling when you book your G Adventures tour. This is an easy and budget friendly option. If you’re interested in browsing more plans, check out the top travel insurance options » 3. Is airfare included? Unfortunately no. While G Adventures does not include international airfare in their trip prices, they can help you book flights. 4. Is there a single supplement? No. G Adventures does not charge a single supplement for their tours. Single travelers are very welcome. You will share with a same-sex roommate during the tour. If you wish to have a single room, there is usually an option to pay an additional fee for your own room. 5. Is there an age cap? While G Adventures trips tend to appeal largely to younger adventure travelers, all ages are welcome on the majority of trips. The exceptions include on their 18-39 tours, which are specifically designed for only travelers within that range. On most other G Adventures trips, children under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian, and are open to kids 12 and up. Some family friendly trips are open to younger kids. 6. What size are the groups? G Adventures group tours are kept small and intimate. The max is 15, with the average hovering more around 10.

This was the first time we had taken a group road tour and I would have to say that it exceeded my expectations. Our guide Danilo was great, it is a difficult job managing people on this type of trip. Everything from the excursion to the dinners where completely organized and well done. We look forward to another trip with Trafalgar in the future. I would without a doubt definitely recommend this trip, it is a little fast pace but Danilo, made sure that we had options if there were needed.

Best of China 2019

The tour guide Hubert was wonderful, very detailed oriented and organized. And had such an extensive knowledge of all the cities and locations we went to. Truly excellent! Personalized care and helpfulness was definitely offered throughout, very nice touch to the trip. Overall a great trip, but some considerations below: The hotel in Beijing – Novotel Peace and the hotel in Chengdu – Crowne Plaza were way below standard – maybe a rating of 2 stars. They were dirty, dark, stained and hot without air circulating in the rooms. After extensive days with waking up early and returning late, you just want to rest in a clean environment with cool air. I would never stay hotels like these. This trip is not for people who cannot handle extensive walking and climbing. Trafalgar lists this as from 5 to 99 years old. Not possible. There were days we did 10 miles of walking, just a caution for anyone considering. We had someone in our tour that was 82 years old and we all took turns taking care of him. Some aspects of the itinerary could be different, but think that is all based on personal preference; however my fellow travelers did feel the same way. The cruise down the Yangtze River was just ‘ok’, time could have been spent better elsewhere. Like Xian, truly amazing city but too short a time. NOTE: Some were charged single supplement, others were not ... I paid for the single supplement and was none too happy about that! Also note that you need to budget for the optional tours that are not included.

Trafalgar is a name many seasoned travelers will recognize. A branch of the Travel Corporation, whose brands all enjoy stellar reputations, Trafalgar has been offering classic and affordable journeys for over 70 years. What Makes Trafalgar Stand Out? Budget friendly without cutting activities Comfortable, not physically demanding tours Largely focused on cultural immersion  Strong reputation    Trafalgar is a budget friendly group tour operator with premium tastes. Their motto is “See the world from the inside,” - this is the place to come for culturally rich and immersive travel experiences that don’t break the bank or the back. Tours are comfortable, not too physically demanding, and offer the opportunity to meet, talk, eat and drink with locals. You’ll get to know chefs, artisans, craftsmen, historians, and farmers as you explore what makes each destination truly special. Trafalgar has a strong reputation, having been around since 1947 - putting them right at the pinnacle of when many premier guided tour companies were established. You’ll meet groups of like minded travelers, enjoy cultural experiences, expertly crafted itineraries with local touches and experiences guides, while traveling in comfort and ease. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Trafalgar? Older travelers (but all ages are welcome) Low to mid range budget travelers Those who enjoy slow-paced itineraries and little physical activity Those who favor historic sightseeing & cultural immersion over active adventure    If you are an active traveler, perhaps recently retired, eager to explore the world in comfort, visiting a nice combination of unique local spots and classic sites, then Trafalgar could be a great choice. Possibly you are new to group tours and packages, having been used to creating your own travel experiences at a younger age - Trafalgar provides the perfect introduction to group tours. Or maybe you’re traveling with a family and interested in introducing a new generation of travelers to your favorite country - but don’t really have the time or patience to worry about planning out all the logistics. While they offer many trip styles, suitable for travelers of all ages, their classic touch is popular among older travelers. Classic doesn’t mean old fashioned or tired - simply a bit less on the active adventure and more on the historic sights and cultural experiences. They have a number of family focused tours, as well as tailored trips for special interests. Trafalgar trips are budget friendly, with most trips in middle to low range, including a “Cost Saver” feature that allows you to see more inexpensive trips broken down by ratings and cost clearly. They offer several deals throughout the year. Trafalgar is a British brand, so many of the attendees on your tour will be from the UK.   Top Destinations With Trafalgar, you can find trips to Europe, USA & Canada, South America, Asia, Australia & New Zealand. While the destinations are widespread, Trafalgar trips explore the culture and guides take you to hidden local spots without venturing too far outside the comfort zone. Tours in Europe and the UK are among the most popular itineraries. In South America, Trafalgar travels to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. In Africa, they go to Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. In Asia, it’s Cambodia, China, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. And in the Pacific, Trafalgar visits Australia and New Zealand. Wherever you go, you can expect high quality guides and accommodations, and smooth travels. They also have a number of religious themed tours, including trips that include excursions to Oberammergau, Bavaria. Once a decade this small town presents a Passion Play, and Trafalgar has had special access since 1970. The next time to experience this unique event is 2020. Trafalgar Travel Style The Trafalgar travel style is all about getting to know the culture through activities and connecting with locals. Their main tagline is “Discover the Good Life” meaning getting to experience the real thing, in a safe, escorted environment with knowledgeable guides there to help with the language and provide historical and cultural context. Discovering the Good Life encompasses perks like skipping lines and private access to classic sites; and unique experiences that bring you to places and among people you’d never have the chance to meet traveling on your own. This kind of travel is local immersion, but not in the same way a 25 year old might interpret that idea. Rather than bunking at hostels, going out late at night, and enjoying potentially questionable street food, you’ll stay in premium, centrally located and culturally significant accommodations - everything from bed and breakfasts in Ireland to hotels right on the banks of Norwegian fjords.  Learn cooking techniques in Italy, enjoy private winery tours at French chateaus, and touring a small olive farm in Spain are just a few examples of the kind of unique travel experiences you can expect with Trafalgar. Groups are large, typically between 40-45 travelers, a max of 52 on trips in the USA and Canada. Primary transportation during the tour is in large coaches, equipped with WiFi (with the exception of Alaska) and featuring large viewing windows - ideal for taking in the scenery as you head to your next destinations.   Most meals during Trafalgar tours are included. Trips often include free time during which you can explore on your own, with suggestions from your expert guides. Why Choose a Tour with Trafalgar? Trafalgar has a solid reputation, and they stick to what they’ve done well for over 50 years. They focus on the classics, providing a culturally rich perspective as you meet locals along the way. Their experience has allowed them to cultivate relationships around the world with local businesses - quality control you can trust for every stop along the trip. Niche tours based on specialized interests are also something they are proud to offer. Trafalgar is where you go to have the essentials and logistics take care of seamlessly while you sit back and enjoy. Do note that these tours can be quite large - 40 people traveling together in a tour group can be stifling for some. While they appeal to an older crowd due to their history and recognizable name, Trafalgar has an impressively well integrated social media presence. Trips on their site are accompanied by instagram posts from real travelers who have been on the same tour, using the hashtag #SimplyTrafalgar. Old or young(ish), couple or single, traveling Simply Trafalgar inspires confidence, comfort, and enjoyment.

They are just great!!!

They are just great!!! They have a no-nonsense ambience. The Dormitory is adequate, very clean and comfortable. The food was very tasty, homely and had a good variety. The activities catered to our satisfaction. They are provided with lots of patience. Every staff member is so friendly and they ensure that you enjoy the outing. We were a family with people from all are groups. They took care of every individual needs. Our aged mother was made very comfortable, and they arranged a chair for her at every activity area. We spent almost two days and one night. And we enjoyed every moment. If one is looking for a good outing, this is the place. Total value for money. Above all it's the passion of the staff that makes them better than most places around Bangalore.

The hygiene and quality of food served was par excellence.

Just a couple of weeks ago, our team had been to ‘Eagles Unbound Adventure Camp’ for a team outing. It was one of the best outings that we have had and a lot of credit goes to Mr. Sunil Chris for being the perfect host. He and his team had ensured that every minute detail was taken into consideration and delivered as promised. The fact that the organizers were able to feel the pulse of our team and plan activities accordingly had built the right tone for team bonding. The hygiene and quality of food served was par excellence. I would recommend ‘Eagles Unbound’ to anyone planning a team outing.

Indus does NOT Disclose Key Aspects of Trip

Actually this is a review of A Taste of Portugal. Indus fails to fully answer questions prior to booking. It was not until we booked that we learned that the air travel "included in trip" was the Absolute Cheapest International Flight. We would need to pay $360 extra for luggage which is normally free for international flights. Also, that the cheapest flight WOULD NIOT PERMIT US TO UPGRADE THE INDUS FARE; choosing to upgrade would cost MORE than the full price advertised online. Un fortunately IT COST US $1000 to cancel this ripoff. Complaints to agent Rachel and Supervisor Tordes was fruitless. Had they answered the one question we asked "Can We Upgrade Flights?" we would not have booked. INDUS FAILED TO DISCLOSE TERMS; it cost us "suckers" $1,000. Richard Supinski

RUN!!!

Been a nightmare, and we haven't even left yet. And may not get to if Indus has it''s way. It's a long story, but I will try to keep it short. We booked our tour to Australia back in Nov/Dec 2018, paid the deposit, and then paid the remainder in Jan 2019. Indus sent me a receipt/invoice showing I owed ZERO now for the tour and that it was paid in full. Our tour is set to depart 4-16-19, and since Jan I have been thinking all is well and calling/emailing every so often to ask when our flights/travel docs will be issued. They kept telling me 45 days before the departure. Well guess what? Yesterday Tayna (my tour coordinator) contacts me and tells me that due to a "glitch" in THEIR computer they will not release my tour and travel documents unless I pay almost another $1700!!! And is it now about 3 WEEKS from departure, so I have very little recourse to do much. Seriously?!? I spent hours on email and calls trying to explain that they cannot just arbitrarily try to charge me more, especially since it was THEIR error. They just kept insisting that I had to pay the money or they would not issue my travel documents. I then found a policy, ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE, that says they will not change the price after a final payment is made (which I did back in Jan 2019). I have forwarded all my documents, and the policy from the website, and have asked for either a full refund or issuance of my trip/travel docs. Tanya assured me yesterday that a manager was looking into this, and that I would have an answer by this morning. The next day, I got a call back from Tanya: they are refusing to give a full refund or release the trip unless I pay because they claim they didn't change anything (despite the fact that they are not demanding double what I've already paid) and that the new demand for additional payment does not constitute a price change; despite the documents I have from them with a zero balance since Jan 2019. This looks an awful lot like fraud, extortion, and illegal seizure of funds. I just want my money back at this point because I've been dealing with this since 3-20-19; and I honestly no longer feel that this company would be a safe one to travel with/through. If they acting like this, and doing these very questionable things, before I even leave; what in the world would they try to pull when I am no longer Stateside?!?

Addendum To Previous Review "RUN!!!"

This is an addendum to my previous review: The manager, Tordes, spoke with the owner and reached out to me on 3-27; we have agreed upon a mutual resolution and Indus has agreed refunded me in full.

Canadian based Indus Travel offers budget friendly tours around the world for everyone from adventurous travelers to families. Their mission is to offer quality tours at affordable prices while providing outstanding service to their clients and to earn their loyalty & operate their travel business in an environmentally responsible, ethical and sustainable way. What Makes Indus Travel Stand Out? customizable itineraries use of travel planners and local experts to help design your trip balance between sightseeing and local immersion Their most popular tour offering is what they term “Unbundled Tours” where you book a group trip - meaning better price, but have the power to then customize your experience along the way. Not everyone may want to see xyz, so their itinerary structure allows everyone to tailor their travel experience. And it helps you choose those experiences, accommodations, meals etc that are within your price range. This does mean you’re dependent on the Indus guides on the ground handling a lot of complicated individual schedules effectively. Indus reviews indicate that this isn’t always a smooth ride, and often confusions arise both on the part of the traveler and the Indus organizers. Indus travel planners are available to help you design an ultra customized journey, using local experts. If you’re looking for something classic and cultural on a budget, they are a great choice. They strive to create balanced itineraries that include classic sightseeing as well as unique and authentic stops. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Indus? Budget travelers Travelers looking for options and flexibility Ages 18-30 Budget travelers looking for an exciting group trip, but with the flexibility to “choose your own adventure”. Group sizes are kept small and they are popular with couples and small family groups. This style of group travel doesn’t always go smoothly however, so you’ll enjoy the experience more if you have an opened minded attitude and are ok with occasional changes on the ground. Indus crafts travel experiences with cost efficiency in mind, so if you’re expecting something more premium, Indus might not be for you. Top Destinations They organize trips around the world; top custom tour destinations include India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Dubai, Peru. Excursions in destination depend largely on what you and your travel companions decide you want to see and do. Indus Travel Style The Indus travel style is about combining the best of independent travel with packaged travel. They will help arrange flights and accommodations, and your input creates a curated experience for your meals and activities. Hotels are usually in the 3 star range. They use a combination of public transportation such as ferries, trains, and buses, as well as their own coaches. These are comfortable, but usually with few upscale amenities. The max number of people on their tours is 22 according to the website, however be forewarned that several reviews state they had over 30 people on their tour. If group size is a very important factor for you when selecting a tour, you might want to consider looking around before deciding on Indus. Why Choose a Tour With Indus? If you are a budget traveler interested in a cost cutting travel solution, Indus is a great choice. Because they are specifically designed to be budget friendly, this does mean you might have to put up with some quirks along the way, so an easy-going attitude is good to have if choosing Indus. While their sales and customer service teams have some negative reviews, their guides on the ground are generally found to be knowledgeable and helpful.

Terrible, the guide ruined our trip

Our guide tried to skip almost all of the things on our itinerary and we had to fight with him to get him to do half of the things we paid for! He hated his job, didn't do any of the guide portion and really ruined our trip to Sri Lanka. Overall, this company was terrible to deal with and didn't care about what their guide did! We didn't get what we paid for at all. Stay away from them!

Based in Paris, Evaneos is similar to a travel agency, though with a heavily personal and social community touch. What Makes Them Stand Out? Evaneos puts you in touch with local travel agents who are there to help you design a custom trip catered to what you want to see and do. They provide easily accessible sample itineraries to help you design the perfect trip.   They are also an effective tool for local travel agents and DMC’s to find new clients. In essence, Evaneos allows the traveler to get directly in touch with the resources often used by traditional tour companies. If you are on the fence about whether you want a small group guided tour, speaking with an agent from Evaneos can clear this up. Agents have a lot of flexibility - and you can still join a tour through them if you end up deciding this is the right mode of travel. Discussing one on one with a local expert can help make this decision clearer! Who Travels With Them? Evaneos attracts a younger traveler seeking creative control over their travel experience. This is also apparent in how they’ve structured their social community. They will appeal most to travelers who are somewhat budget conscious, care about responsible and sustainable travel, and value having a local guide. Evaneos agents are helpful for providing local expertise and knowledge about how to make your trip ideas fit into a viable itinerary. Where Do They Operate? Currently trips are available all over the world, excepting Antarctica - a majority of tours are centered in Europe and Asia, and very few travel to North America. Why Travel With Them? You may be thinking that a guided tour isn’t right, but also may be unsure about creating your own travel experience from scratch. If you are looking for help crafting an experience that has a local focus, with professional input this is a great way to find agents and travel advisors to help you do just that. Prices vary, but are generally affordable - around the same amount as a group tour but this is a great option if you’re looking for something a bit different than a traditional tour. Unlike a traditional travel agent, flight arrangements are not always included.

Stunning views, good hikes and great hospitality

It was my first ever trip with Hiking the Balkans, so I had no expectations. I was pleasently surprised by the professionalism, the choice of accommodation, trails and restaurants on this trip. The combination of hiking and visiting thermal spas and wineries was ideal for an active, yet relaxing holiday. I am planning to explore the Balkans more and I would definitely go with Hiking the Balkans again, they have good local knowledge of all Balkan countries, great contacts and are very good at recommending the best spots off the beaten track.

Great trail running adventure

I had been to Skopje once before, where I looked at Mt Vodno and dreamt of doing a trail run up it. Fortunately, Hiking the Balkans managed to get me in touch with Dean, a fantastic running guide who showed me all types of cool paths on the mountain. Dean’s pace and fitness levels were great: we covered 21km and almost 1000m uphill in under three hours (excluding breaks). The views were great and Dean told me lots of fascinating things about the mountain and about Macedonia itself. I’ll definitely be in touch next time I’m in Macedonia and have time for a trail running expedition

Founded by Maja Trajkovska, they specialize in outdoor experiences in the Balkans for active travelers. What Makes Them Stand Out? A passion project run by locals of the Balkans. All tours are hiking focused and imbued with a local spirit. Their guides all have interesting backgrounds and specialities, and trips are carefully cultivated to showcase the best of the Balkans and hidden gems. They are committed to responsible travel and incorporate this into each and every hike. Who Travels With Them? Their tours are specifically geared toward active outdoor travelers, looking for an adventurous experience. They are very focused in providing a unique local experience among mountain regions, so you won’t hit many tourist spots. If you’re worried about physical level, their hikes are suitable to most travelers, and there are many different trips to choose from. Where Do They Operate? The Balkans covers several countries, including Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Greece. Their tours operate in all these countries, with a focus in national parks and other specialized outdoor destinations. Why Travel With Them? If you’re looking for a unique outdoor experience among nature, led by locals, and with a culturally immersive touch, this is the perfect tour company for you. You’ll stay and spend time in remote mountain villages, and learn about the country from a uniquely qualified perspective. This is not the ideal company to travel with if you’re seeking a more traditional tour, visiting famous sites and cities. However if an active outdoor trip is appealing, they’d be a great place to start.

It was a great experience

We just completed a 6 day self guided walk in the Pyrenees on the Cathar Castle trail. It was a great experience. Good accomodation, food and scenery. Everything was really well organised bar a couple of very minor hiccups involving taxis but nothing major. We would highly recommend this trip

Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

Have just had an incredible week cycling along the Danube River through Germany, Austria and Bratislava on a UTracks Bike & Barge trip with my partner. We did a self-guided trip with electric bikes so we could set our own pace each day, stopping for long lunches in the sunshine, wine tastings, coffee in gorgeous ancient villages and side trips to castles, imperial palaces and monasteries, before returning to our boat each afternoon in time for drinks on the sundeck. I loved waking up on our boat in a new destination each day ready to explore the European countryside. Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

A heartless tour company!!

Let me start by saying that I did not even get the chance to go on this trip. A week prior to my trip to Spain, an immediate family member of mine become ill with imminent death. I was unable under the circumstances to travel and wanted to cancel my trip and was willing to reschedule for a later date or get a credit. This was a very expensive trip for both my sister and I, taking us years to save up for it. The response we received from our agent is that Contiki is not willing to postpone the travel, even after we were willing to pay an extra fee. This tells me that this company is GREEDY and HEARTLESS. My family member has since passed away, 3 days before my departure date which was supposed to be on July 2nd. I even went to check the Contiki website and was shocked to see that my trip which was previously full, has now opened up spots to fill our place. Now, not only are they keeping the money of 2 young hardworking people, but also making money off filling our spots!! I've never experienced such injustice and mistreatment from a company in my entire life! This company has no sympathy and ZERO understanding for a situation as devastating as death. My sister and I were so excited to go on this trip and were very upset by the timing of our situation... but how can you control when a loved one will pass??????? SHAME ON YOU CONTIKI. If nothing is done to resolve this unfair policy, I will make sure not to recommend your tours to anyone.

amazing beyond all our expectations

We arrived home last week following an 11 day tour with Peregrine Plus, Lima, The Sacred Valley and Lake Titikaka. It was amazing beyond all our expectations. Our private guide was a Peruvian local, English speaking, he was excellent great local knowledge and organised everything like clockwork. Our accommodation was brilliant we were treated like royalty, check out Hotel B in Lima, Sol Luna Urubamba and Hotel Belmond Monasterio in Cusco. Would highly recommend this tour and look forward to another experience with Peregrine in the future. 1 Comment

Fabulous time with a wonderful guide, Jorge.

This trip was fabulous and it was made even better with the knowledge and expertise of our Spanish-speaking guide, Jorge Riofru. Jorge smoothed over all our difficulties and showed us the real Peru that is his homeland. He was able to ensure that my coeliac diet was catered for even when we were trekking to Machu Picchu! this trip was enhanced by the deep knowledge and love that Jorge has for his country. this has been one of the best trips ever.

What an AMAZING 6 week trip of 6 countries!

My first ever trip in smaller numbers - loved it, yes, loved it so much as we could do things that larger groups can not do. Ecuador, Peru including the Amazon region, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil were awash with fantastic experiences with the stunning and majestic sights, the people and their culture, the food, animal and bird life and of course, what I accomplished by surprising myself at the Incan ruins. Our guides, Alejandro in Ecuador, Sally in Peru and Sabina in Chile, Argentina and Brazil were just the best Ambassadors for Peregrine as they showed such passion for their country and genuine care for each of our small number to return home with amazing memories to abide in our hearts forever. Muchas Gracias to each of you as you have touched my life with a very special imprint. I highly recommend this full trip for the entire 6 weeks just in case you have not noticed.

With Peregrine Adventures, ‘anywhere is possible.’ Based in Australia, Peregrine has led small-group, ‘soft’ adventure-style trips worldwide for over 30 years. It was one of the first operators to employ local leaders, a practice that is now widespread in guided travel. What Makes Them Stand Out? While considering itself an adventure travel company, Peregrine promises to “smooth down the bumps and rough edges.” In short, it’s more about soft adventure with added comforts than roughing it. Group sizes are kept small, with no more than 16 travelers per trip. Its philosophy is that while “seeing the famous sites is a must, it’s those memories of wandering through a little village or sharing dinner with a local family that leave a lasting impression.” The small-group aspect allows for more time to absorb the nature of the places visited, and to make a minimal environmental impact on them as well. Who Travels With Them? While Peregrine is a global company, many of its travelers originate from Australia and New Zealand. However, their groups can be geographically diverse, with most travelers 50+ years of age. Where Do They Operate? Peregrine offers a wide variety of exciting global destinations, with 200 trips across 80 countries -- spanning from Egypt to Turkey to Canada trips! The company is perhaps best known for its Himalayan trekking excursions to far-flung destinations including Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. It was a pioneer in high-altitude trekking and these trips remain among their most popular today. How Does it Work? Most travel is by private, air-conditioned minibus, but you might find yourself on a houseboat in Kerala, India, a tuk-tuk in Sri Lanka, or a mountain lift on the best Switzerland tour you've ever experienced. Lodging and dining is at smaller, locally run hotels and restaurants. You might also dine with locals from time to time, and stay with local families or at campsites as well. Why Travel With Them? Peregrine is a good choice if you’re looking for a bit of a softer landing with respect to transportation and accommodations but still crave an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience. If you’re looking for more individual travel, Peregrine will craft independent journeys, arrange self-guided walking and cycling tours, or arrange private group and tailor-made trips. It’s your choice. Peregrine also helps support various community and conservation projects via its ties with the Intrepid Foundation. Tweets by PeregrineSpirit

They are headquartered in the U.K. but have recently opened an office in the United States to service American customers. What Makes Explore Stand Out? Explore has 30+ years of experience delivering high-quality active adventure trips. They keep groups to a manageable size of 14-16 travelers to encourage a more authentic, memorable experience for all. Explore also uses local leaders and local accommodation whenever possible, so you can be sure to get the local perspective on everything from the history and culture to the best restaurants and bazaars. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Explore? Active travelers seeking a fun, interesting travel experience. They offer 450 trips in over 120 countries with trips trending towards the more active side. Think cycling, trekking, and walking. If you are the kind of traveler whose suitcase is more active wear than formal wear, Explore is your kind of travel company. While it is possible to find Explore trips where culture and urban exploration are more the focus, where just a minimum level of fitness is required, their speciality is definitely in breaking a (small) sweat while traveling. Tours with Explore are open to all ages, and they even have a whole group of Family Friendly tours available. Because you will be active, being relatively physically fit is going to help your enjoyment level exponentially - and some tours are more difficult than others. Be sure to check the Tour Pace and physical requirements. Top Destinations Explore travels to all seven continents (yes, including Antarctica!) and offers trips in over 120 countries. Explore Travel Style Besides Small Group Tours, which is what they are known for, you can also book Private tours, which are great for large families or corporate trips, Tailormade - for those who want something ultra-personalized, and Self Guided trips when you don’t need a guide with you every step of the way. Explore offers three classes of travel: Simple, Classic, and Premium, with the majority of trips categorized as 'Classic.' Expect to pay a bit more for 'Premium' tours as they usually offer more included meals and a higher class of accommodation. As always, accommodations with Explore are chosen for their character and the more they provide a uniquely immersive experience, the better. Another nice feature is Explores 'Tour Pace' designation, which is on a scale from 'Relaxed' to 'Full On,' with most trips falling in between as 'Moderate' or 'Busy.' Explore travel themes are all active focused. They weave cultural travel highlights into their activities, so while you will be on a “cycling tour” or “hiking tour” Explore recognizes that you are also a traveler. Why Choose a tour with Explore? Choose Explore if you are looking for a more active trip without a lot of creature comforts. Explores trips are very well priced, and leave some flexibility in terms of meals. The trip was a perfect

We just returned from our first family trip with B&R though Normandy. Our guides, Thilo & Sigrid, were incredible. The trip was a perfect balance of cycling, history, food (and wine, of course). The kids loved hiking across the bay to Mont Saint-Michel and the go-karting was a huge hit (as was pizza night)! Really can't say enough great things about this trip. We enjoyed every minute and are looking forward to planning our next adventure!

Grand adventure

I just completed my 9th biking trip with Butterfield & Robinson! We loved every minute of biking in Tuscany with our guides, Alex, Stephano and Edo. Stunning scenery, challenging biking, a great group of fellow travelers, and, of course, delicious food and wine! Private access to illuminated Medieval manuscripts was a highlight for us because we are college professors and book lovers. Thank you so much for a grand adventure.

Incredible this trip

Just got back from an amazing trip with B&R from Vienna to Prague. This was my first trip with B&R and I was so impressed by every detail!!! Our guide was so thoughtful and made sure every moment was perfect!! We really enjoyed getting to know him and felt completely spoiled by all the great treatment. The accommodations were fabulous, food and wine was delicious and plentiful, and the bike rides were all so much fun with new adventures and beautiful scenery around every turn! Even the walking tours in each place were top notch with very interesting and knowledgeable tour guides that we enjoyed getting to know. I cannot even believe how incredible this trip was, I highly recommend B&R and am already planning my next trip!!!

Born in 1966, Butterfield and Robinson specializes in higher end guided and self-guided biking and walking tours to many of the world’s top destinations. What Makes Butterfield & Robinson Stand Out? The seamless combination of luxury minded travel and the active travel style of cycling are what have consistently made Butterfield a household name among affluent 50+ travelers. You can choose your own activity level, whether it’s a ramble through the Burgundy countryside in France or a more strenuous hike along the Inca Trail in Peru. On cycling trips, bikes are customized to fit the riders, and they have a high staff and support vehicle ratio per guest -- making them a top choice for travelers seeking a high-service biking adventure. They offer several tours around the world, small group is their primary offering, though private guided and customizable itineraries are also available. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Butterfield & Robinson? They offer trips for all ages, but are definitely most popular among older active travelers with a taste for the finer things. If a leisurely 25 mile bike ride through European vineyards, stopping for picnics, going at your own pace, and meeting up with your small group for a nice rustic dinner with a well deserved beer or glass of wine at the end of the day sounds like your perfect vacation, then Butterfield & Robinson is for you. Activity levels vary with the terrain and there are several different activity categories that B&R offers for you to choose from. They’re open to people of all ages -- kids under 18 are eligible to go on special family trips -- and athletic abilities. Ebikes make it easier for even the most basic physical fitness level to travel farther and in more comfort. Of course it’s not a complete ride with no effort - you must pedal, but it is possible to travel on a cycling trip with Butterfield & Robinson without feeling like you’ve entered the Tour de France. Trips with Butterfield & Robinson are not budget by any means, though a range of price options are available in the mid to upper budget category. Top Destinations Over the years, they’ve expanded to more than 100 biking and walking trips around the world, including Bhutan, the Baltics, Jordan and Colombia as well as favorites like Spain, France, and Italy. Wherever you are, you can expect to be showered with refreshments, route maps, and suggestions for interesting places to stop and explore. Butterfield & Robinson Travel Style Most tours with Butterfield & Robinson are easy to moderately paced. Cycling is the primary means of transportation from point a to point b on most trips, with a generous helping of stops to enjoy unique cultural experiences or explore a historical site. Guided bike trips average about 25-30 miles a day (longer for expert level), while walkers average six to ten miles a day. Group sizes are kept small, to allow for travel along all kind of roads, and create the opportunity for a lot of space between riders, allowing you to find your own pace. On most trips you’ll be joined by more than one guide, allowing for very personalized and dedicated attention throughout your cycling experience. Small group sizes also help Butterfield be able to arrange unique accommodations. On a B&R trip, it’s not unusual to find yourself in a renovated castle, chateau or other signature lodging. They are known for cycling, however Butterfield also offers Walking Tours, Family Trips, Boat Trips & Cruises, Safaris, Food & Wine centric tours, and Corporate Holidays. Why Choose a Tour With Butterfield & Robinson? Even for avid hikers and cyclists who choose the more expert options, B&R sees to it that all you’ll have to cope with is that next hill. You never have to carry your own luggage or purchases that you might make along the way -- the support van, which you’re likely to encounter several times a day on your route -- takes care of that. You also have plenty of flexibility in pacing your walk or ride; group members don’t have to stay together -- you can stop at cafes or museums along the way as you see fit. You can even take the afternoon off if you wish. In short, Butterfield is the pinnacle when it comes to well planned, fun, expertly guided, cycling tours with a luxury travel touch.

Well thought out journey. Am very pleased I went.

Excellent guide, who went out of his way to show us places not on the official tour. Tour was educational and well worth while. However, some of the buffet meals were below your standard.

Located in London, and part of the sweeping family-owned Travel Corporation, Insight Vacations provides signature itineraries according to 7 specific trip styles. What Makes Insight Vacations Stand Out? Insight does not skimp -- hotels tend to be centrally located, even if more expensive, so that guests can experience a destination at night and have more free time at their disposal. “Signature” experiences dot every itinerary: these may be interesting historic hotels, special activities (such as a private opera or orchestra performance),or authentic local restaurants. Most everything is included in the base rates. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Insight Vacations? Insight’s typical customers are upscale English-speaking baby boomers in their 50s and 60s. The kind of traveler who appreciates the finer things, loves the idea of a day out in the fresh air followed by a private dining experience with high caliber food and wine, will love the exceptional service that comes with an Insight Vacations tour. If you enjoy meeting new people in a small group setting, the group travel experience with Insight is all about creating the intimacy and opportunity to meet new friends and make lasting connections. And they provide a few different ways to make this possible, from groups of around 32 people, to special interest trips. However if you prefer the idea of traveling in a private setting, Insight will customize the travel experience to what you and your friend group or family group want to see. Foodies will definitely enjoy traveling with Insight Vacations as well! They make food and dining a focal point of interest on their itineraries, in a way that really stands out. Top Destinations Insight Vacations offers premium motor coach tours throughout Europe, North America, and increasingly, India. Insight Vacations Travel Style Insight seeks to fill a “premium” niche that falls above first class and a notch below luxury. Customer comfort on the road is a priority. If visions of cramped bus tours come to mind, note that Insight coaches have been stripped down to 40 seats, compared to 49 to 53 for normal tour buses. This allows for double the leg room, and a truly upscale coach travel experience. Meanwhile, tour directors and local guides keep passengers entertained by delivering “insights” (in English) into local culture, history and politics. They also take your dining experience into account. Insight offers several different ways to make food a highlight during your trip. These include fine dining options at innovative local restaurants, unique farm to table meals, cooking demonstrations, and even learning to make local dishes yourself. Similar attention is paid to selecting the hotels and accommodations you will enjoy throughout your Insight Vacations tour. Lodgings are chosen for their central locations as well as significance to and representation of the destination. Why Choose a Tour with Insight Vacations? The Insight Vacations tagline is “the art of traveling in style”. They take this idea seriously both pre trip and while you’re on the ground. If you’re looking for luxury beyond the silk sheet stereotype, consider Insight Vacations. Everything is planned out to the letter, groups are small, and you experience personalized service and passionate travel guides every step of the way.

Fantastic Trip in Southern Africa

We did this trip, Explore Southern Africa, from Aug 9 - 26 this year and we thought it was probably our most memorable trip ever. The variety of wildlife (we saw the big 5 plus giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, wildebeests, impalas, baboons, ...) and our proximity to them that we experienced was unparalleled. The scenery was like nothing we had ever experienced before (our first time anywhere in Africa). Although it was winter time there when we went and many areas were looking very dry it was an experience not to be missed. Additionally we were made to feel welcome everywhere that we went. The highlights of the trip for us would be the two days to the Okavango Delta, the optional game drive through Chobe National Park and day 13 with our guide tracking rhinos in Matabos and going to the African village. Our tour leader, cook and drivers were excellent as were our co-travellers. The meals that were prepared for us tasted great, were well balanced and no one ever left hungry. The 2 person tent accommodations weren't the most luxurious but they allowed one to stay right in the "middle of the action" with the animals in close proximity to our overnight homes. This being the case, we never felt unsafe in our tents at any point. The overlander vehicle didn't have air conditioning, as is standard, however if you made sure to open windows for air circulation during the drive the heat wasn't so bad. If one is prepared to put up with these few inconveniences and willing to help out with camp set up, vehicle clean up, and meal clean up afterwards (this is a participatory type of trip where certain tasks are required of the travellers) it is an experience not to be missed. It all makes one more appreciative of the luxuries that we have at home that many do not have in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Faultless service and incredible trips, at a really good price. Plus they are all really nice peeps, by email or phone, and we need more of that in the world. So far, and still counting, I've used them for: Alaska Tanzania Kenya Uganda Northern India Lombok Bali Russia Mongolia China Nepal Never had a bad experience, only excellent value for money and memories to last a lifetime.

Intrepid Travel is all about ‘real life experiences.’ Founded back in 1989 following an “intrepid” African adventure trip, Intrepid lives up to its name by offering up some pretty big adventures -- such as an 11-day hike through Papua New Guinea -- but is broad-based enough to also lead group trips to Hawaii, complete with sipping sunset Mai Tais on Waikiki Beach. Intrepid Travel - Quick Facts Founded in 1989 No Single Supplement (rare exceptions) Small Groups - max 16 on most trips Typical Age Range - 18 - 45 Travel Style - Cultural immersion, adventure, overland Accommodation Style - Camping, Hostels, 3 /4 star hotels Average Tour Price - $2,377 Top Regions - Asia, Africa, Europe, South America Other Brands: Peregrine Commonly compared with G Adventures » What Makes Intrepid Travel Stand Out? Small group sizes Travelers from all walks of life Well-balanced itineraries (group and free time allotted) Guides are travel experts or friendly locals Above all else, Intrepid strives to get its travelers off the beaten path and under the surface of the local culture. To accomplish this, group sizes average just 10 travelers each, with a maximum of 16 on most trips. This allows for more use of local transportation and lodging, along with fostering cultural immersion. Intrepid also employs local English-speaking leaders who act more as a resource for local exploration than do typical ‘guides,’ shepherding groups from one place to another. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Intrepid Travel? All ages (seniors included) Adventure seekers and culture enthusiasts Intrepid is one of the early pioneers of the “adventure”-style guided trip. Despite its informal beginnings and emphasis on younger, highly adventurous travelers, Intrepid has expanded to a global company with a broad range of trips to fit all ages. Intrepid divides its small-group trips into three separate styles of travel, all priced accordingly. “Basix,” for budget travelers, keep inclusions to a minimum and offer plenty of free time, “Original” journeys which offer more included activities and more hotels, while “Comfort” trips offer the highest level of included activities and standards of accommodation, as well as roomier vehicles. The kind of traveler who gravitates to Intrepid Travel is one who has a real sense of adventure - whether this means hard adventure, or simply going deeper off the beaten path. Interacting with locals is an important factor when you travel, as is gaining a unique cultural perspective. A sense of fun is also essential, whether it means going out at night with your tour mates or daring, ahem, encouraging each other to try strange new foods. Top Destinations Asia South America Africa Europe Originally focused on small group adventure tours to Asia, Intrepid has expanded rapidly over the years, while maintaining its classic, adventurous, and immersive style. Today Intrepid Travel offers more than 1,000 different experiences in over 100 countries, on all seven continents. Regions with the most trips include Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. Intrepid Travel Style Intrepid enjoys using local, unique forms of transportation. You might find yourself traveling by felucca in Egypt, on a camel in Morocco, or in a tuk-tuk on the best Thailand tour of your life. Accommodations, which could range from guesthouses to home stays, are also locally owned, allowing a more authentic taste of the region while contributing to the local economy. There are a few broad travel styles to choose from when deciding on an Intrepid tour: 1. Basix - Budget travelers who don’t mind, and in fact prefer, simple accommodations - camping and homestays with basic amenities, and crave a lot of free time for exploring independently will love these tours. Public transportation is used exclusively so pack light! These trips often attract a younger crowd who love the idea of throwing a backpack on, keep plenty of room for the unexpected in their schedule, and allocate their travel funds towards spontaneous bus tickets and street food instead of museum tours and 5 star restaurants. 2. Original - These trips take the backpacker spirit of local immersion, incorporating all the benefits that come with going with a planned itinerary. This style is called “Original” because it’s the type of travel that put Intrepid on the map...pun intended. Accommodations are still simple and budget minded - often homestays are used to give you a true sense of place, personality, and culture. Mostly public transportation is used. 3. Comfort - Intrepid is known for the active adventure style of travel and these trips keep that mentality, with a few more creature comforts thrown into the mix. You can expect higher end, more discerning, accommodations that include a wider variety of included amenities, transportation is mostly private, though you can still expect to use some public transport, as is the Intrepid way. More meals are included in the trip price, and more group activities - which means a bit less free time to explore on your own. Why Choose a Tour With Intrepid Travel? Intrepid is a good choice if you don’t mind foregoing some creature comforts for a truly authentic, local experience. If you enjoy meeting locals when traveling, sampling new and exciting foods, and traveling in mixed-aged groups of 10-16 people, Intrepid could be a good fit for you. It’s important to note, sometimes “ample free time” can be a blessing and a curse. It sounds great on paper, but if you’re looking to maximize your dollar and your vacation time, be sure you understand the implications of having a lot of free time during your itinerary. For some travelers this is an absolute requirement, but for others it can be tough to branch off and explore independently - you also need to make sure you allocate enough travel money for independent meals. The tour leaders are great resources of information for how to spend your free time, but if you like having a full day scheduled from breakfast to dinner, Intrepid may not be the best company for you. Lastly, if sustainable and responsible travel is important to you, Intrepid has poured millions of dollars into local economies, and has a very strong emphasis on responsible travel. So you can feel good knowing that your money helps support some of the innkeepers, vendors, and communities that you’ll meet along the way.

Extremely knowledgeable

Amazing staff who are very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable. My trip was amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it. I did the Spirit of Europe last year and couldn’t recommend Topdeck enough.
5.0 • Sally

Overall amazing value. Food, particularly by Topdeck staff, excellent. Spontaneous/flexible; be prepared to pay for lots of extra excursions, on and off your itinerary, in cash.

Food was excellent. Accomodations were better than expected: hostels, but usually with in-suite bathrooms and always only with other members of your tour of the same gender. Don't try to overplan; trip is quite spontaneous and flexible and you won't know much about the schedule/optionals for each city more than a day or so in advance. Optionals will be plentiful and paid in cash. Only do those that are right for you, even if your trip leader really encourages them and most other people are going. These trips are great for solo travelers, but make sure you find people interested in the same things as you...it will probably be easy to find groups to go to bars and clubs with in the evenings, but harder to find people who prefer other evening plans. Driver was excellent and bus was very comfortable and clean, but be prepared to spend a lot of time on it as there is no driving at night. Trip leader extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. Overall, excellent value and a trip with plenty of time to see the bucket list highlights in each city.

Fast-Paced Tour of Western Europe that highlighted most Bucket List Sights. Awesome Company. Great Food and Tour Leader

I jumped on this tour with very little notice and planning, and I was thoroughly impressed. Our Topdeck trip leader was very knowledgeable, fun, and adjusted the trip to the group (34 people). The meals provided were delicious, and they worked hard to cater to dietary needs. Accommodations were good, typically with 2-6 people in a hostel room. Keep in mind they are hostels, not hotels (bring your own towel). I loved the itinerary, as it highlighted the must-see places and had variety (ex. Paris, Rome vs. Switzerland). The optionals in each city were all wonderful. However, many were not presented in the Topdeck literature online and were not introduced on the trip more than a day in advance. All are paid for in cash (Euros). Because of how the optionals were presented, it was a bit harder to budget. I would recommend inquiring more about the optionals when booking and at the beginning of your tour via your trip leader. Don't feel pressured to do all of them and remember to keep your own interests in mind. The solo travelers easily found others with similar interests to explore with. For many on this trip, drinking and going out to bars/clubs was a major component (as alcohol is often cheaper than water). Because of the shortness of this tour along with all the destinations, prepare for lots of driving and to make the most of the time you have in each city. This trip provided am amazing sampling of Western Europe and opened my eyes to cultures and history I was unfamiliar with. Overall, I would highly recommend this itinerary and touring company, as it provided a good balance between budget and experiences. P.S. Stay flexible with plans, but some of the popular sights need more pre-planning than expected, like the Eiffel Tower and the Anne Frank House (Amsterdam).

Founded in 1973, Topdeck has been providing fun, adventurous trips around the world for 18-39 for over 40 years. What Makes Topdeck Travel Stand Out? Topdeck tour focuses on providing friendly and authentic guided group tours where like-minded 18-39 year old travelers can have amazing group experiences. There are several trip types to choose from, from camping, to immersive, to multi destination, to sailing. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Topdeck? Sociable, adventurous, budget conscious 18-39 year olds are the kinds of traveler who will gravitate to Topdeck. Though they offer a few different distinct travel styles, there is definitely a sense of an ongoing party, with travel as the conduit and underlying shared interest. If the idea of being around a group of similarly aged people - many of whom may be exploring internationally for the first or second time - being spontaneous, and meeting locals (often in the environment of bars or clubs) is unappealing, then Topdeck may not be your cup of tea. Introverted travelers, or those for whom an extensively planned itinerary including many museums and historical sites is ideal, may want to hunt around before choosing a Topdeck tour. That is not to dissuade the more observational traveler - who may very well find a group they gel with perfectly on a Topdeck tour. Only to caution that you will be surrounded by several extroverted personalities. The bottom line is if you are game for anything, are traveling on a budget, and don’t mind fairly basic but comfortable accommodations and inexpensive meals - sometimes on the go - then you will enjoy the Topdeck tour experience. Top Destinations Topdeck has tours throughout the world, in Europe, Australia & New Zealand, North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Topdeck Travel Style The Topdeck travel style is tied quite specifically to their audience. These tours are great for youthful and energetic 18-39 year olds looking for a good time and to make new friends. In the interest of keeping their tours affordable, travelers with Topdeck will need to make a few allowances. For example, hostels and hotels may be situated quite far away from the city centers. You can also expect some long travel days. The more of a good sense of humor and adventure you have, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. Why Choose a Tour With Topdeck Feeling the urge to connect with travelers in your age group, have fun, and make lasting friendships? Topdeck has over 40 years of experience in adventure travel, which has helped them create epic low cost trips for 18-30 somethings. These tours are certainly not for those who prefer to take things slow. You will be running around, moving between a lot of places - which in some cases means very long bus rides - going out a lot, meeting new people, and staying active throughout your tour. If your ideal travel experience is more methodical and planned out in nature, Topdeck may not be for you. But if you are an adventurous and social travelers eager to absorb a new culture and make new friends, then hop on board!

The Amazing Turkey by land tour was absolutely amazing

The Amazing Turkey by land tour was absolutely amazing. It was well planned and a great introduction to the major cities of Turkey as well as the different landscapes and seas, history, food, culture and traditional crafts. Our guide, Mustafa was very knowledgeable and added so much value to the experience whether it was an explanation of the evolution of Turkey, recommendations on the optional activities or restaurants or a good bad joke. My highlights included a traditional Turkish bath, Turkish pottery demonstration, exploring the Saklikent gorges, paragliding and the hot air balloons in Cappodocia.

British company, Travel Talk, strives to provide top notch travel experiences at reasonable prices. What Makes Travel Talk Stand Out? Travel Talk was born out of the desire to make extraordinary experiences accessible to ordinary people. They have many niche tours such that finding a tour suited to your interests is easy, and you’re guaranteed to meet like minded friends along the way! All tours are led by local experts who are there to make your experience unforgettable. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Travel Talk? The Travel Talk traveler is someone eager to hit the ground running and explore destinations from all angles. These trips are intended primarily for 18-39 year olds, though the “young at heart” are also welcome. However if you are more in the 40+ range, be forewarned that the tour personality will definitely be youthful in tone. In this case “like minded” traveler is pretty age-range specific. In their own words, travelers on their tours “have a desire to get off the beaten track, experience the culture and tradition all while having a little fun.” Single travelers are more than welcome, and provided you don’t mind sharing a room, no single supplement is required (with the occasional exception on sailing tours). However, unlike their commonly compared counterparts, Contiki and Topdeck, Travel Talk presents itself as less of a constant ongoing party and more of a cultural experiences tour. Not to say there is not the occasional night out on the town - only that the more introverted may enjoy Travel Talk more than Contiki or Topdeck. Top Destinations Their specialized tours focus in Europe, though they also operate in Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.   Travel Talk Style Travel Talks travel style is all about cultural discovery and having a good time. Accommodations are chosen within a variety of comfort levels, and Travel Talk strives to choose where you stay and how as it’s own experience - not just as an afterthought. Travel Talk tours are budget conscious, but depending on the destination, you may experience anything from a 5 star resort to riding aboard a traditional felucca on the Nile.   Why Choose a Tour with Travel Talk? They are committed to providing a real, adventurous, cultural, and above all local experience. Yet they are careful to not force the comfort zone too far. You will receive outstanding service, accommodation, transportation, and attention from your tour guides. Itineraries cover the must see tourist spots as well as hidden gems. It’s the perfect travel experience that won’t break the bank.

Excellent

Have now had two excellent and affordable (one downright cheap) trips to Europe. Good basic hotels in safe and central locations, timely and reliable customer service. Would definitely recommend and use again. Was particularly pleased that on the trip alone, the single supplement wasn’t an exorbitant upgrade.

Those for whom these same factors contributed to a negative experience may have had higher expectations than is available or offered for the competitive budget prices that Gate 1 is known for. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Gate 1?  All ages  Low to mid budget travelers Those open to simple accommodation and meal plans Gate 1 is the perfect travel choice for families, couples, and friend groups seeking a cost efficient journey. As Gate 1 is a strictly budget minded brand, it’s important to be fully aware of the trade-off when you choose to travel with them. You will see a lot, and be out and about visiting several sites - however keeping costs low is one of their main priorities. This means hotels will be basic, meals won’t be 5 star, and your coach will have fewer amenities. In addition tours with Gate 1 feature several optional add ons and sightseeing tours, not included in the base price. Average tour price is around $2,000, often less. If you’re flexible, open minded, and are interested in maximizing your sightseeing above all else, Gate 1 could be for you. Knowing what to expect is key for enjoying the trip to the fullest. Top Destinations Gate 1 trips cover much of the world, including destinations in North, Central, and South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Itineraries focus on the top sights, historical attractions, and national parks. Gate 1 Travel Style In a nutshell, the Gate 1 travel style is “see a lot for a little”. Hotels and accommodations are usually 3 star hotels. Expect basic comforts, with fewer amenities available. However if you’re the kind of traveler for whom a bed and some coffee in the morning is a fine trade-off for busy days outside and tons of sightseeing, the trade-off will be worth it.   You will be met on the ground with a dedicated tour leader, available to assist throughout your travel experience. Escorted group bus tours are a big part of their business - between 24-42 people. These coaches are again, more utility focused than amenity focused, but you will be comfortable. And in general bus tours take frequent stops to allow for stretching legs and using of facilities.   Gate 1 also offers small group tours (with a maximum of 22 people), river cruises on two continents, independent city stays and fly and drive packages, rail packages, customized vacations, and combination bus/cruise tours -- something for almost everyone interested in a budget vacation. Why Choose a Tour With Gate 1? For the budget traveler, Gate 1 is a fantastic choice. They offer several types of trip package to choose from, including rail, river cruise, and small group tours, at competitive rates. Their escorted tours are extremely popular, and customers repeat trips with them regularly. While Gate 1 is the primary brand, and they are all about giving a positive and packed international travel experience on a budget, other brands associated with Gate 1 are more premium focused. These include the Signature collection, offering luxury tour options and smaller groups.

The variety that was offered on our tour suited us very well. The Salar de Uyuni at sunrise was truly a unique place.

"We arrived back into Australia on Sunday after spending a couple of further weeks exploring some more of South America. I found you through Google searching for tours that included Atacama Desert options. The Good online reviews from numerous other travelers convinced us to work with you. Also the variety that was offered on this tour suited as very well The 4WD trip through Bolivia was amazing. It's like a different planet up there and was a real experience. The Salar de Uyuni at sunrise was fantastic on the 4WD tour. Truly a unique place. We really enjoyed the hotel in Purmurmarca - Hotel El Manantial del Silencio. It had real character and drinking Argentinian red wine by the open fireplace was lovely. All our guides were very good and were friendly and welcoming. Eddie, our 4WD driver did not speak English which made it a bit hard to converse with, but we were lucky enough to be travelling with an Austrian family who were able to relay information to us. The guides for the Tatio geysers and the Humahuaca day tour were very good at relaying everything in Spanish and English. Sorry - but I can't recall their names. Just one suggestion: It would be worth noting to people that not all services run every day and this needs to be confirmed for the requested dates. This didn't put us out too much as we got to spend an extra day in the North of Argentina, but we may have shifted our internal flights around a bit have we known the bus didn't run on a daily basis. Cheers, Mat"

Absolutely amazing !

Absolutely amazing website! Best way to see tour options for your favorite travel destination. I used this site for a trip to Costa Rica with a some friends. You will not find a site that has more options and information with easy online booking. The employees are quick to respond and very helpful answering any questions and recommending tours based on your preferences. Wish I could give 6 stars

Great service!

Great service! Rob from Project Expedition really helped pick out the perfect trip for me. I ended up going Rafting on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica and it was beyond amazing. The team helped tailor the trip to my needs and went above and beyond to help me with any questions I had and offer assistance with other parts of my trip. I will definitely be using their services again!

This was our first group tour ever and my family and I are greatly impressed and grateful this was our first experience as we had a complete blast! MoMo, our tour guide, made the trip, he went above and beyond to accommodate everyone one on the tour

He was also extremely knowledgeable, humorous and very patient with everyone. I can't say enough positive things, because of our outstanding experience we would definitely consider another group tour with On The Go. MoMo, you're the best.

A most enjoyable tour

Can’t speak highly enough of our tour guide Hung. He was so friendly helpful knowledgeable and made our tour a very very memorable one. Everything went so smoothly The hotels were very comfortable, transport all air-conditioned which was super in the 38° heat. We were on the overnight train and enjoyed the experience something we will never forget. Thanks for your help on the bike ride Hung , you went beyond the call of duty! I am very glad you talked me into going on that cycle ride I enjoyed it immensely. We felt that we were leaving family by the end of the tour everyone got on so well. Thank you again Hung and On the Go tours for giving us such a wonderful experience.

On the Go Tour is a British-based tour company that runs primarily guided tours around the world but will also help fashion independent travel itineraries.  What Makes On the Go Tours Stand Out? They have a large number of holiday styles, including a large number of options for independent travellers looking for tailor made trips. On the Go Tours is very accommodating and popular amongst solo and single travellers, with most of their escorted group tours requiring no single supplement. Specialty tours, such as Tintin tours to Egypt, Jordan, and India, based on the adventures of the famous Belgian cartoon-book boy-journalist-explorer, are one of the main things that sets On the Go Tours apart. Who Will Enjoy Travelling with On the Go Tours? Those travellers who gravitate to busy, lively, itineraries, that also allow for spontaneity, and are budget conscious will love travelling on holidays with On the Go Tours. They are also very popular among those interested in festivals around the globe. These events are often large scale and can be difficult to navigate, find accommodation, and stay safe. On the Go Tours provides a way to take the stress out of planning to attend a festival. And not just music, but Carnival at Rio; the vibrant Holi Festival in India; the Dragon Boat Festival in China; the Nadaam Festival in Mongolia; and the Boryeong Mud Festival in South Korea, along with many others. So if you are culturally curious and enjoy the idea of large crowds attending the same meaningful event, On the Go Tours would be a great place to start for these travel plans. Travellers with On the Go Tours are mostly age 28 and up, and you can expect a wide range of ages and backgrounds among the group. These holidays are relatively active in nature - a lot of walking and time outdoors, On the Go does offer some family itineraries suitable for children. They also actively solicit single travelers, and don’t require a single supplement. Nationality wise, they attract mainly British, New Zealand, Australian, North American, and South African. Top Destinations On the Go Tours operate around the world, with a large majority of holidays offered in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Australia, and Central and South America are also popular. On the Go Tours Travel Style The On the Go Tours travel style is a combination of coach travel, 3 to 4 star accommodation, some camping, walking and cycling. These tours will keep you active, and in most cases you will carry your own luggage, so pack light, and if you are relatively physically fit you will enjoy the days far more. They have 5 “Holiday ranges” to help you determine the tour type that is going to be best suited to you. 1. Signature - The On the Go Tours Signature Collection is a group of higher end offerings. Accommodations will be in 4-5 star hotels, and groups are kept smaller, with a maximum of 24 people. Destinations are primarily focused in Asia, with a few departures in Europe including Iceland, Russia, and Italy. Peru is also available. 2. Budget - Budget tours are a key component of On the Go Tours. These trips are for active backpackpackers interested in meeting similar travelers in a larger group (max 32). You will be carrying your own luggage, and using a variety of transportation including overland vehicles, public buses and trains. Accommodation is in tented camps and 2-3 star hotels. Most meals are up to you and not included in the itinerary or base price. 3. Handpicked - These trips visit classic and iconic sights, utilizing locally run tours (where you might join up with other tour takers, not exclusively your own tour companions). Partners on the ground help On the Go craft a unique vision for your itinerary. Groups are small, around 28 people max. 4. Active - Active holidays with On the Go tours are intended for those travellers interested in being outdoors and have an adventurous frame of mind. Whether you’re traveling by bike, or on foot trekking or hiking. Travellers who are physically fit and used to stretching their limits will find the most enjoyment on an Active trip with On the Go Tours. Active holidays are offered in Asia and the Middle East primarily, with outings also available in Croatia, Turkey, and Africa. 5. Independent - For those travellers who aren’t as excited about a group tour and like the idea of being on their own but with a professionally planned itinerary, On the Go Tours has you covered! These bespoke tours allow you to have input over what you see, and the pace of your journey. Expect to pay a little bit more for this experience (bespoke tours with On the Go can be considered akin to their Signature Collection), but having the expertise behind your itinerary is all worth it. Why Choose an Escorted Tour with On the Go Tours? On the Go is a perfect starting place for active travellers who maybe don’t know quite yet the kind of journey they’re looking for and want a lot of choice. Prices are kept in the low to mid budget range, and on most tours you can expect a lot of inclusions - this does means there is quite a bit less free time available during the itinerary to explore on your own, so if this matters a lot to you, On the Go may not be the best fit. From tours that specialise in festivals and events (both obscure and popular, musical and cultural), to bespoke holidays designed for you personally, to extended overland journeys, On the Go Tours has tons of holiday types to choose from. Destinations cover a wide range of popular, classic, and off the beaten path locations from less traveled areas of Eastern Europe to the Middle East and Africa. The age range is diverse, and solo travelers are very welcome and actively encouraged to join On the Go Tours. This is a great tour company for meeting new people who have like-minded approaches to travel.

This was our first Bus Tour. While we did enjopy the spots we visited, we felt that there were too many towns and not enough time in each, necessitating more time on the bus. Nevertheless the value of the tour is undeniable. The Tour director Jon, was extremely professional and he was a huge positive on the trip. The topography of Croatia was spectacular, the Sea and mountain views were gorgeous. Lake Bled, the Postojna Caves, Opatija/Plitvice Lakes, Debrovnik, the Roman Ruins, Zagreb were wonderful. The hotels were all clean and rooms were comfortable. Unfortunately my partner Barbara fell and injured her face and broke her glasses on the way to Debrovnik. Jon was extremely concerned offered to find a doctor ()which Barbara declined) but Jon took the broken glasses to an occulist who temporarliy repaired the frames. Two of our fellow travelors who were Nurses took care of Barbara after the accident.

Choosing a Croatia Tour Operator

There are many global operators that run tours to Croatia, as well as some local outfits. Croatia is also a popular destination for custom trips, as it’s fairly safe and the surrounding countries make for a nicely paced but manageable multi-country vacation.

Most tour companies that have itineraries to Croatia do include the nearby Balkan states, in particular Bosnia & Herzegovina, which borders the thin coastal strip of Croatia.

Croatia is also a popular destination for active adventure travel, and many Croatia tour companies also specialize in outdoor travel.

Croatia is a popular cruising destination for its spectacular coastline and the many small uninhabited islands just offshore. Tour companies in Croatia often incorporate a day trip for sailing around, visiting small ports and islands, a great opportunity for photography, snorkeling, and enjoying the Adriatic sunshine.

Croatia has become increasingly popular among young active travelers. Much of Croatia is very walkable, and the national parks feature endless trails. Croatia also has a growing reputation for having great nightlife, and interesting and modern food and drink options.

The cities in Croatia are very old and classically European with cobblestone paths and a lot of stone steps and hard surfaces.

This can be difficult to navigate for long periods of time, especially for older travelers. If you have bad hips, or your feet tend to get sore with a lot of walking, consider finding a Croatia tour operator that is specifically designed for older people and features shorter walks around the major sites.
