  • Enjoy a catamaran ride to Mljet National Park
  • Sample wines produced on the island of Korcula the Peljesac Peninsula

Short Description

With impressive architecture and arguably some of the best scenery in Europe, the Dalmatian Coast is truly unique. This is a relaxed week taking in the best of this striking coastal region. We start by exploring the UNESCO cities of Split and nearby Trogir, before sampling island life on beautiful Korcula. We complete our trip with three nights in Dubrovnik, possibly the most perfectly preserved Renaissance town in the world, with a jumble of narrow streets and red-tiled roofs tucked tightly within the city walls.Stunning Croatian islands and the historic cities of Split, Trogir and Dubrovnik

Stride Take

This is an easy going trip, very suitable to older travelers, who wish to experience the beautiful Dalmatian Coast. Some day walks are included, mainly flat, and through very pleasant surroundings.

At 8 days this is the perfect introduction to Croatian culture, history, with enough time to enjoy classic sites as well as hidden gems.

Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.

Itinerary

Flight Inclusive

Day 1 Fly to Split; transfer to Trogir, overnight in the centre of the old walled town.

Fly to Split. On arrival we take a short transfer to the UNESCO town of Trogir in time for dinner. We stay in the old walled part of this charming town. *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 2 Explore Trogir; transfer to Split, free time in Split before catching the catamaran to Korcula.

We look around Trogir in the early morning before taking a short transfer to Split, another UNESCO city. There will be free time in the beautiful old city centre before we catch a catamaran late afternoon to the island of Korcula (approx. 3-3.5hr). The mediaeval walled town of Korcula, reputedly the birthplace of Marco Polo, is often described as a mini Dubrovnik. This picturesque town is located at the tip of the island where the distinctive red roofs jostle for space between ancient towers. Like Dubrovnik, the old town is a warren of small lanes and alleys: a great place to explore and a photographer's paradise. We take a short transfer to the village of Lumbarda where our hotel is situated. *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 3 Circular walk around Lumbarda village and wine tasting.

It's time to stretch the legs a little and roam the surrounding area of Lumbarda. We will walk through vineyards and olive groves and admire the beautiful beaches where we can stop for a drink or a quick swim and enjoy our picnic lunch. In the afternoon we visit the famous Grk winery and sample some of the local wines typical to the island of Korcula. In the evening when transfer to Korcula Town for dinner.  *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 4 Travel by boat to Mljet Island; walk to the peak of Montokuc for panoramic views.

After breakfast, we transfer to Korcula in time for the catamaran to Mljet Island, whose national park status has ensured limited development. The island is a lovely tranquil place to walk, cloaked in forest and dotted with tiny hamlets. Our goal today is to reach the peak of Montokuc which offers panoramic views of the beautiful Dalmatian Coast, before returning to our hotel on Korcula. Those who do not wish to walk up to Montokuc peak can take a flat circular walk around the lake, have a swim and enjoy a drink overlooking the water.  On occasion, if the weather is bad the catamaran cannot run. If this happens there are alternative excursions, or we will stay on the island of Korcula and visit Vela Spilja, one of the most important prehistoric archaeological sites in Europe. *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 5 Ferry to mainland; visit Ston en route to Dubrovnik.

We transfer to the ferry port to catch the ferry to the Peninsula Peljesac (15min ferry ride) after breakfast. Once on the peninsula, we drive along a very scenic mountain road with great views of the coast and vineyards. We will stop at one of the local agrotourism and enjoy a local olive and produce tasting just next to the old town of Ston. In Ston we recommend walking up the magnificent old walls which overlook the town – the view from the top is fantastic! Ston is also very well known for its seafood – the mussels and oysters here are so fresh and probably the best on the trip. After roaming the streets of Ston we will transfer about 60km to Dubrovnik where we have the rest of the day to relax. In the evening we can go into the old town for dinner and a wander around. *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 6 Dubrovnik city tour.

Today we enjoy a full day in the remarkable old city of Dubrovnik which includes the Rector's Palace, the Franciscan Monastery. Dubrovnik exudes old-world charm with its location right on the Adriatic, the fine religious buildings surrounded by heavily fortified walls and the jumble of red-tiled roofs. The shelling of Dubrovnik by Serb troops in 1991 and 1992 outraged the world. Fortunately, over the last 10 years, great care has been taken to re-build the damaged parts of Dubrovnik and the city has now returned to its former glory. The cobblestoned streets of the Old town, or Stari Grad, feature fountains, churches, palaces and museums – all built from the same light coloured stone. There are no motor vehicles in the city but at night the streets come alive as locals and visitors take an early evening stroll along the Stradun. This is the main street and is covered in smooth shiny marble. Following the walking tour, there will be time for a walk along the famous city walls: this is optional and costs approx. €25 for entrance into the site (or is included in the Dubrovnik card). *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 7 Free day to relax in Dubrovnik, or take an optional trip to Lokrum and explore the surrounding area.

We have a free day for further exploration of the city. Relax either in the many eateries, on the beach or perhaps enjoy an optional visit to Lokrum Island. Very easily reachable from the old port in the Old town of Dubrovnik, this island is a nature a special forest vegetation reserve, waiting to be explored today! A 20 minute boat ride will take you away from the crowded streets of the Old Town to this beautiful green Island where the botanic garden is situated and where you can relax with a drink. Don’t forget to bring your swimming gear and a good book as after a stroll you will most definitely treat yourselves with a swim in the Adriatic Sea.  *Comfortable Hotel*

Day 8 Transfer to Dubrovnik airport; fly to London.

Stunning coastline and some beautiful old towns to wander round .Two lovely
walks of about five or six miles along stoney paths but with options if
you're not feeling to energetic.
Loved the buildings in Dubrovnik being a craftsman I really enjoyed some of
the stone work

The group leader Sanja was fantastic ,very good at her job and always smiling
.i would also like to single out the tour guide we had in Dubrovnik, Antia
was excellent she was very informative but also entertaining and funny ,the
two hour walk round flew by .

The food in Croatia is great but if you are vegetarian and don't eat fish you
will struggle also the trip notes state there is filter water supplied ,this
is not the case but we were assured the tap water was safe to drink so we all
did with no ill effects .There are no kettles in hotel rooms in Croatia so if
you want tea in bed bring a kettle and bring a good insect repellent for
Korcula they really liked the taste of me.

No very early starts on this trip ,730 am was the earliest

This week long trip was a blend of fast paced scenic national parks and city
tours. Both having lots of steps! With not a moment wasted you are surprised
at what has been fitted in.
The most inspirational moment for me as a someone who is not the fittest was
completing the epic walk to see the fantastic panoramic views at Mljet
National Park and then having a splash in the water after.

Our group leader was Dino who was always friendly, approachable and took the
responsibility of leading a full group very well.

The city tours we had were informative and I appreciated the Dubrovnik tour
guide (Anthea?) always looking for places in the shade.

On this trip the notes were misleading - water is not provided.

Start walking especially if your not used to walking especially fast paced,
lots of steps, uphill walking in the heat. But the views, ice cream and swim
make it worthwhile.

Do bring swim wear.

If you do walk the walls in Dubrovnik and you want to miss the cruise crowds
go after 13.30

The trip has an optional day trip to Mostar - please consider this.

To anyone who is interested in this holiday I would say as an introduction to
Croatia book it!

This was an interesting and varied trip with a wonderful variety of sights,
history, walks and scenery.
The pace was great, I like the 2/3 nights in a hotel format.
There were an awful lot of steps involved, I don't just mean walking I mean
up and down sightseeing. Fine for most but maybe worth mentioning. Also the
gravelly surface on the up hill part of the Mljet walk in heat made it a more
than gentle walk! Trainers were perfectly fine, not walking boot terrain
really, walking pole may have helped. The Korkula walk has a bit of a rocky
scramble in one tiny section.
The guide Dino, was wonderful, enthusiastic, helpful, compassionate and easy
company.
Great restaurant Marco Polo in Korcula and for a light lunch in Dubrovnik
Oliva Pizzeria, lovely Greek salad and cold beer! Watch out for prices in
Dubrovnik, we found a huge difference for coffees, lemon etc.
Walk the Dubrovnik walls early, we were on them by 8.30, by the time we were
off them about 2 hours later (we wandered and took photos and time) there was
a steady stream climbing the entrance steps, and it was hot...early May!
That's it....great trip...go ahead and book it.
The walls of Dubrovnik, and Ston...and Mjlet

He was great. Dino did everything possible to make the trip what we wanted it
to be. His first trip too, our group will be forever emblazoned across his
memory!

OK, see above re walking poles and trainers.

I would have liked a little more information during our walks about the
history, flora and fauna...what were those abandoned enclosure walls on
Korkula? What is this plant? That's being super picky, it was a great trip.

We selected the holiday because the weather was warm but not too hot in May
and also the pictures looked interesting.
We are really glad we went. The places have history, interest, fun and
comfort.
We felt really at home wandering the streets at night taking photos and
enjoying the superb restaurants.
We enjoyed the trip immensely and are considering returning to Croatia.
I guess it was wandering through the night in Korcula. The crowds were
disappearing the restaurants were smelling gorgeous. The waiters and locals
were all chatty and friendly. The light was beautiful for some good night
time photos.
Then we happened upon a group of about 20 locals in tracksuits with beers
practising their acapella singing. Great moment.

Sasa (pronounced sacha but cant type the accent) was fun and bubbly.
She tried really hard to keep everyone happy. She moved between everyone in
the group with skill and appreciated everyones needs. She organised meals for
those that wanted them together, every night.
We enjoyed her company.

The Pension in Korcula was about 15 minutes walk from the old town. The walk
is easy and well lit. It was great moments to get into town for the night
time.

In Dubrovnik the "Dubrovnik Card" was great value to catch the very easy bus
(bus-stop just outside our hotel) and to visit all the sights.

I am not a Game of Thrones fan but got caught up in it with other fans
visiting all those filming sights (thank you Lili). There is even the IRON
THRONE made of swords on Lokrum Island. I sat on it and had my picture taken.

I enjoyed that they filmed the latest Star wars movie there "the last Jedi"
so got fascinated by that.

There is a free map at the hotel that gives you all the filming sights. Get
one if you like this stuff.

I think you should go. I reckon there is something for everyone in Dalmatia.
But remember Cruise ships dock at Dubrovnik so can get busy. Consider
visiting old town first thing or last thing to avoid the crowds.

Wonderful country that should be on everybody's list.
The vistas.

Sasha was what a tour leader should be, proud of her country and wanting to
share it with the group. One couldn't ask for better.

This trip was listed as leisurely but I feel it was a moderate especially for
a couch potato.

A lovely varied holiday, combining walking , sight seeing & the history of
Croatia.
The wonderful different views from various places were all inspirational.

Our leader Ivan was brilliant, he was very attentive, full of information &
nothing was too much trouble, he explained thoroughly what would be happening
next on the tour & kept an eye on everyone.

The first walk was harder than I had envisaged but was well worth it for the
amazing view from the top.

A really lovely, varied holiday. Thank you Ivan & Exodus.
