Dubrovnik Tours & Travel Guide

Dubrovnik Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Coastal Dubrovnik has soared in popularity over recent years due to it being prominently featured as "Kings Landing" in HBO's Game of Thrones. The city has a unique European charm with large stone walls overlooking the Adriatic, winding pathways, palaces and churches. It's a great introduction to the Balkan region of eastern Europe.

Brief History of Dubrovnik

People have inhabited this area of Croatia for hundreds of years. The city was founded in the 7th century by the Ragusas who were refugees from Italy. With its central location between Italy, the Ottoman Empire, and Greece, Dubrovnik became a major trade city and strategic location.

Much of the city’s most famous landmarks, like the walls and Sponza Palace, were built during the Middle Ages. The city was very prosperous until 1667 when much of the city was destroyed by an earthquake. The city wouldn’t see large scale damage again until the War of Independence in the early 1990s.

Today, the city has become a top spot for travelers looking to experience romantic old towns, delectable food, and breathtaking landscapes.
