What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

Additional details

Is Dubrovnik Included on Most Croatia Tours?

Yes, Dubrovnik is almost always included on tours to Croatia. Sitting in a prime location on the southern tip of the Dalmatian Coast, Dubrovnik has become a top cruise and tour destination in the last 15 years.

The city’s rich cultural past as a former stronghold for the Republic of Ragusa from the 14th century to the 19th century has given the city its romantic and medieval draw. Tour companies include Dubrovnik in their itineraries not only because of the its location and history, but also because unique story in Croatia’s past.

Dubrovnik is also included in guided tours because the city was used for filming the TV show Game of Thrones. With the creation of the show, Dubrovnik has shot up the destination ladder with fans of the show flocking to see where their favorite scenes were filmed.

Dubrovnik Weather

Dubrovnik has one of the best climates to visit throughout the year. With its location next to the Adriatic Sea, the city maintains a typical Mediterranean climate. Almost half of the year the city sees clear skies with bright sunshine.

During the spring and fall, the weather is warm, but not uncomfortable. You are still able to go kayaking in the bay or lay out on the beaches. The nights do get a little bit cooler so it’s a good idea to include an extra layer if you are heading out into the city for dinner.

The summer months are the busiest and the hottest. During the summer, Dubrovnik can get into the upper 80s with very little cloud cover. While 85 doesn’t seem too warm, with Dubrovnik’s location the sun and temperature feels much warmer because there is typically very little clouds and the city is farther south.

The winters in Dubrovnik are cooler and wetter. However, the average temperature is in the mid-50s. While the city doesn’t see normally see snow, they can occassionaly get a small amount, but it is usually rainy.

Is Dubrovnik Safe?

Yes, Dubrovnik is very safe. Conflict ended in Croatia in 1995 after the War of Independence and the fall of Yugoslavia. Since then, there has been no major conflicts or issues in Dubrovnik or Croatia.

However, with Dubrovnik becoming a top tourist destination, visitors should remember to safeguard their belongings. Pickpocketing or tour scams can happen. Always be aware of where your purse or wallet is. Also, if you are going on a tour or looking for a tour guide, make sure to do some research before you sign up.

Getting Around Dubrovnik

If you are staying in the Old Town, it is very easy to get around the city. The Old Town of Dubrovnik is smaller than you think. The length of the city walls that surround the town only total over 6,000 feet.

While the Old Town is small, there are many side streets and alleyways you may get turned around in. Just remember that the walls completely surround you and if you need to get back to the main road, just head for the center of the city down the stairs.

If you are staying outside of the Old Town, Dubrovnik has a large and efficient bus system. One of the main stops in the city is at Pile Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town. All of the lines run through this stop making it easy to get from your hotel to the Old Town or surrounding beaches.

For those who are on Croatia guided tours or cruises, your tour company will usually transport you from your hotel or ship by charter bus. The buses stop right outside of Pile Gate so you can explore the city.
