Young family on vacation guided tour

Family Friendly - Best Tours & Trips

Multi-generational travel -- when grandparents, parents and kids all travel together -- is one of the hottest trends in group travel. As every parent knows, to have a successful trip, the first ones you have to please are the kids. But that doesn't mean limiting yourself to beach or theme park vacations. Many tour operators offer special family trips -- including adventurous and grandparent-grandchild trips -- that are specially suited to keeping kids (and everyone else) happy travelers.

Red sand dunes, game drives, new friends October 2018

African adventure with something for all family members: climbing the sand
dunes in the early hours to sit and watch the sun come up, desert colour
palatte, sand-boarding at speed, the contrasts of colonial Swakopmund,
township tour and an education in Herero history, game drives in Etosha -
hearing jackals howling whilst in your tent at night, sitting through dark
hours watching the animals at the water hole, searching for those elusive
leopards, closing windows at Waterberg lodge to stop the baboons climbing in
and sharing a terrace with the warthogs, watching an orphaned baby oryx being
fed from a bottle. And of course Jonas' famous BBQ dinners - with stories
around the fire from Jack afterwards! Hundreds of photos and a travel diary
to try and store the memories in a more organised fashion.
Thank you again for a fantastic holiday!
Hard to choose, but probably sitting atop the sand dunes or star gazing in
the desert

Steffan was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the trip - especially the
wildlife. But, you had to ask him questions to learn things, rather than him
teaching us about Namibia. So, I just asked lots of questions!!

For those with younger children, I'd caution that some of the drives are
long, and that it gets very cold in the early mornings both for breakfast and
the first few hours on the bus

Just another thank you!

Fun, educational and activity-filled trip! October 2018

Sicilian Volcanoes Family Holiday

This three- centre holiday combines city, beach, island-hopping, and walking
at altitude on Mount Etna, and as a result a week's holiday goes a long way!
We loved the balance between physical activity (walking and sea kayaking) and
relaxation, and between organised group time and time to do what took our
fancy as a family. The itinerary as a whole was very good and we appreciated
the way that bus journeys on transfer days were broken up with informative
visits to the local pasticceria and the volcano museum. Hotels were fairly
basic but clean and perfectly adequate and transport arrangements ran very
smoothly. Overall this was a wonderful holiday with friendly like-minded
families and a helpful, knowledgeable guide.
The boat trip from Vulcano to Stromboli via Panarea, with a stop for leaping
off the boat to swim in the beautiful clear sea; circling Stromboli in the
boat after sunset and spotting a volcanic eruption; visiting the
archaeological museum on Lipari and viewing the Greek and Roman relics;
walking through the Catania fish and produce market.

Alessio was full of local knowledge and very helpful and approachable.

Take earplugs - it was a bit noisy at night on a couple of occasions.

If you want to experience the sulphur mud baths on Vulcano, take an old
swimsuit because apparently the mud gets into the fabric and the smell
lingers for months afterwards.

It's possible to hire walking boots and other kit on Etna, so no need to buy
if you don't already have. Long socks are very useful to stop the volcano
ash getting into your boots.

The only disappointment with the itinerary was on the final day, when our
flight left Catania at 2145 but we were dropped in the city at 10 am and left
to our own devices until 7 pm. It was a very hot Sunday and finding i)
amusement and ii) shade was a challenge. We ended up spending a lot of time
in the airconditioned department store and then reading books in the park.
Some suggestions of what to do in Catania on a Sunday, or a hotel lounge to
use as a base for the day, or an alternative flight time, would have been a
good idea.

We travelled on the May 1/2 Term departure to Sicily and we had an amazing
time. The tour manager was brilliant and the group of 15, made up of 4
different families, were lovely.
The trip combines some great activities with plenty of chill out time too.
Our family highlights included climbing Mt Etna and also the walk to explore
the Fumaroles of Vulcano and Kayaking around the coastline of Vulcano. For
me, I also loved swimming around the bay every morning, where we stayed,
before breakfast. It was so tranquil and warm. The visit to Stromboli was
brilliant and we all enjoyed the boat ride and the pizza for dinner.
Climbing to the top of Mt Etna was definitely the most breath-taking and
inspirational experience I had on the tour. It was incredible and the volcano
was more active than I'd anticipated. It was amazing.

Allessio was very organised and was a very lovely and caring tour leader.

Don't miss the opportunity to climb to the top of Mt Etna. It is incredible.

This is a great tour. The accommodation is in a great location and I would
have never have thought about going to the Islands of Sicily. They are really
stunning and remote, which makes for a relaxing yet active break.

This was an absolutely fabulous holiday. It had been very well thought out
to give us as much exposure as possible to as many aspects as possible of the
wildlife of Borneo. The accommodation was good and we saw an amazing variety
of animals, birds, plants and insects. The local guides were excellent at
spotting things of interest and Sheila, our leader, was one of the best I
have ever had, all done with a lovely sense of humour. I'd thoroughly
recommend it.
Probably seeing the giant flying squirrels as I wasn't expecting them. The
orang-utans in the sanctuary and in the wild were just lovely.

Excellent! A grand sense of humour, always patient, interested in us all
personally, very knowledgable and very good at spotting the wildlife

If you are interested in wildlife, go for it

Pandas and Warriors October 2018

Well organized and enabled us to see a lot of Chinese highlights in two week.
It did involve a lot of travel, which we knew beforehand on several days. We
were lucky with a very compatible group (all boys of similar ages).
Walking the Great Wall and watching the young pandas play.

Knowledgeable, friendly, good with the kids and hard working.

Take a phrase book for restaurants.

On the whole we had. A grant time and the trip was well organized. There are
a few things that could be improved such as:
The whole day spent traveling overland to Hong Kong is tedious. This should
be looked at and potentially a flight used. Although we recognize another
guide may then have to be used in Hong Kong but this would be advantageous in
terms of local knowledge and local guide privileges. For example, we had to
get a taxi up the Peak as our Chinese guide could not get access to the
'group' priority lane to avoid 1.5hr queuing.
We felt that the tips given out to the drivers and local guides were in some
instances not necessary or proportional to the services they provided, or the
culture of tipping in the country. The amounts advised in the Trip Notes felt
excessive for this type of trip in this country.
We were a little surprised that we had to pay for the guides meals on several
occasions with the bill being divided by 11 rather than 12 on numerous
occasions.
The travel on days 6 and 7, following the overnight train, seemed to be
excessive and unnecessary when we spent over an hour traveling in and out of
Luoyang on the same road for no purpose as we didn't need to be in the centre
of town that night/there was nothing to see. Could the overnight train is
substituted for the bullet train or a hotel further outside Luoyang be used?

Family Friendly Tours and Travel Guide

Family Friendly Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Multi-generational travel -- when grandparents, parents and kids all travel together -- is one of the hottest trends in group travel. As every parent knows, to have a successful trip, the first ones you have to please are the kids. But that doesn't mean limiting yourself to beach or theme park vacations. Many tour operators offer special family trips -- including adventurous and grandparent-grandchild trips -- that are specially suited to keeping kids (and everyone else) happy travelers.

Education Meets Adventure

Cultural tours are a fantastic way to introduce kids to the magic of history and give them exposure to other cultures and customs. Hands on museums, activities, and demonstrations are the perfect way to provide a connection with place and past. For kids, as with adults, the intersection between education and adventure is much smaller when traveling- as they discover the world, they will not even realize how much they are learning.

Endless Wonder

For kids, travel is the whole experience, from the moment you arrive at the airport. Through their eyes, even the stress and annoyance of long lines at security and customs can be enjoyable. And as they discover the world around them, soaking in different cultures, foods, and languages, you will gain a new appreciation as well.

There is some debate as to the best time to start traveling with kids. Is as a baby too young because they won’t remember? Is as a toddler too difficult? Whatever you choose, know that there are several tour companies that cater specifically to families, and will help provide the support you need, as well as fun and engaging activities for the younger travelers.
