I'm now back safely from my holiday in Bhutan and had a great time January 1970

Bhutan Explorer & Paro Tshechu Festival

Everything went really well and very smoothly. Our guide was a star, the accommodation and food were above expectation (I loved the national dish of cheese and chillies) and the whole tour was totally fascinating... Read more

Ancient & Modern Japan

I really enjoyed visiting this fascinating country. There were many new impressions and images. Japan is quite different to the other countries in Asia that I have visited so far. What I missed on the trip was a view from the inside. Although our tour guide was very capable, efficient and helpful, I was disappointed that we did not have a Japanese guide or at least someone who spoke the language well. That is something I have always valued highly on other Exodus trips.
This is a difficult question, as there were many inspirational moments: the wonderful gardens, staying in a ryokan and having a communal hot bath, the impressive Matsumoto castle with a view over the Japanese Alps, the snow monkeys, the bullet train and of course the cherry blossoms, of which there were many!

The group leader was efficient and well organised. We had plenty of information for our free time and everything ran very smoothly. Suzy was approachable and helpful and did her best to make it a successful tour.
On the downside, I would have appreciated more insight into Japanese society and culture from an "insider", either a Japanese or someone who had lived there for some time and spoke the language well. We spent a few days in Japan after the trip with someone who is living there and learned so much more about the country and went to interesting places where tourists who can't speak Japanese would not have been able to go.

Be open to new experiences, try unfamiliar foods and take a dictionary. Not so many people speak English. If you ask a Japanese for information or advice, be prepared to wait, as they will often go in search of an answer or someone who speaks English. We found the Japanese in general very courteous and helpful, always ready to assist us "gaijin".
Be prepared for a lot of walking, take good walking shoes.

When I enquired beforehand about the amount of walking, as I had been suffering with a back problem recently, I was told it was just leisurely sightseeing. However, we spent many hours on our feet with few breaks. Luckily my back improved and I coped with that, but there was a member of the group who did not cope well and was quite slow, which meant my husband and I were sometimes torn between not abandonning her and trying to keep up with the rest of the group. I think this could have been handled better, perhaps with clearer advice beforehand and arranging meeting points at intervals. The schedule was sometimes too tight to allow for slower walkers.

Our tour guide was great however I did feel that time at some of the attractions could have been less and therefore we could have fitted in other things January 2015

Disappointing and poor value August 2016

Authentic Andalucia

Rather disappointed with the accommodation, which was basic and not very comfortable. We were moved to a better room, but it all needed updating. The food was ok, but nothing special, the breakfast was un imaginative, the dinners adequate but not very exciting.
Visiting Cordoba.

Helpful and pleasant.

The location of the accommodation is very isolated and the local village has almost no facilities.
Wish we had realised it was quite straightforward to visit Granada on the free day, you need to book tickets way in advance and we had been put off by the journey, but it was easily arranged.

Not sure this trip was value for money, it compared poorly to similar trips we have taken with other operators.

Andalucia August 2016

Authentic Andalucia

The holiday was the 10th I had done with Exodus. I have also done 10 with Explore,I therefore think I can speak with some experience. The room I shared with another traveller was very small. The towels were changed once in that week. However there was nowhere to dry the used towels ,so the room took on a damp towel smell and it became hard to dry oneself.
The transport was not of a good standard. The mini bus failed its MOT during our holiday. This meant we had a replacment bus and drivers that did not know where they were going. Due to our guide also being new to the job ,we also got lost whilst on foot in the towns. On the free day there were no good maps/guides for us ,so all 3 parties that went for walks got lost !!
Visiting the Cities

She was a nice girl ,but had little experience ,the driver with the useless bus normally knew where we had to go.

If you get one of the bigger rooms ,you will be okay but first time Exodus travellers got them on my trip! So much for loooking after loyal customers !! Get your own good maps of the area where you are staying if you want to walk, as exodus suggest you can do on your free day.

Feel let down.
