Pleasantly Surprised October 2018

Introduction to Via Ferrata

Having done some very basic Via Ferrata I thought this trip sounded
interesting. I was a little apprehensive having injured my knee 10 weeks
before and, approaching 70, wondered if the trip might be too ambitious.
In the event I had no problems coping with the activities and the trip
exceeded expectations.
We did the hardest day on the third day as the weather was most favourable. A
very exhilarating trip and certainly the most technically difficult. So a
great sense of achievement.

Absolutely fine.

You must have a head for heights and a couple of the climbs are tough so long
distance mountain walking experience will help. In my case my cycling fitness
was sufficient.

A fantastic group of 8 (5 male / 3 female) with a good age spread from 30 ish
to 70. We all got on exceptionally well and, on our free day, 7 of us hired
bikes and cycled into Austria where we all went downhill on a summer
toboggan. Then all 8 had our evening meal together at a local restaurant.

This trip was just what I wanted - a hut to hut traverse in high mountains
with great scenery, some challenging walking and the highlight of climbing
Triglav. We were fortunate with fine weather and a knowledgeable and
entertaining guide and a congenial group. What's not to like?
Looking up at Triglav and wondering how we would climb it

He was just right, very good on history, local information as well as health
& safety and concern for slower members of the group.

Yes, you need to be fit!
And carry as little as possible. Do practice walks with full rucsac then cut
lots of weight.

Highly recommended holiday.

Engadin Ski Marathon! October 2018

I've just returned from my 4th Engadin, and had a fabulous time. The
atmosphere and support from skiers and spectators was amazing! I love a ski
week with a challenge at the end, and a 42km race is definitely a challenge!
Receiving a hug from Eric at the finish line! I had skied the race of my life
and was 2 hours faster than my first time. That improvement is down to Eric!

Eric was inspirational as always. His instruction and guidance means that
over the week we all improve and have the best opportunity of completing the
marathon on the last day. If he no longer leads the trip he will be sorely
missed.

I enjoy dressing up for the race as I like to see the spectators response.
The people are so friendly and appreciate anyone making the effort. A group
of spectators we met on the train on the way to the start spotted me skiing
through Mattress Alley and cheered me on! To spot me among 14000 skiers was
amazing!

The Engadin Marathon is suitable for classic or skate style skiing. I prefer
skating and hope Eric might do just one or two more years so I can continue
with my progress!

Vietnam and Cambodia - Tailor made October 2018

Our trip was arranged by Thidara for our family of four - my husband, myself
and our two 20-something daughters.
We asked for a trip which incorporated sight seeing with some more
adventurous activities and some opportunities to do things independently.
The itinerary met our brief perfectly. We were able to see the main sights on
our list with interpretation provided by our excellent guides and also do
kaiaking, cycling and visiting a cave which was off the regular tourist
trail.
We travelled by boat, overnight train, plane, bicycle, tuck tuck as well as
dedicated minibuses with our trusty drivers braving the incredible traffic!
It was a fabulous trip which was made all the more enjoyable as all the
stress was removed due to the reliability of our guides and the detailed
organisation.
The two highlights had to be cruising and kaiaking on Halong Bay and seeing
Angkor Wat at sunrise, however learning about the history of both Vietnam and
Cambodia was also fascinating. Travelling south by road meant that we crossed
the DMZ and could visit the museum there. We also went to the War Remnants
museum in Ho Chi Minh.
We did a cooking class in Hoy An which was another must do. Our guide helped
us out with finding an excellent class which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We had four guides during our trip and all were excellent. Helpful,
informative and passionate about their country and its treasures.
It really added to the enjoyment of the trip that they were able to answer
our questions and guide us through the process of getting to know the culture
and lifestyle of this fascinating area.

Vietnam and Cambodia are great places to visit. They feel very safe and there
is so much to see and do.
The tailor made trip worked very well for us as we had our two daughters with
us who are 21 and 23. They enjoyed the freedom of being able to choose
places to eat in the evenings but were also keen to do all the activities

High Adventure Tours and Travel Guide

High Adventure Attractions & Landmarks Guide

High adventure gets your adrenaline pumping and may or may not involve some element of risk, though on a good guided tour safety is always the top priority. On a high adventure trip, you may find yourself rafting Class V rapids in Nepal, scaling a mountain peak in British Columbia, steering a dogsled across the Arctic tundra, riding a hot air balloon over Egypt's Valley of the Kings, crossing a glacier in Switzerland, camping in the Moroccan desert, watching whales close-up on a Zodiac in Alaska, or bungee jumping at Victoria Falls. Whatever gets your heart racing, you can find a tour to take you there.

New Zealand and Beyond

Queenstown New Zealand, the self proclaimed “adventure capital of the world,” has every right to the title. With the birthplace of commercial bungee jumping just outside of town at the AJ Hackett Bridge, jet boating, paragliding, and multiple other activities, there’s no other place quite like it for adrenaline junkies!

But that doesn’t mean it’s the only destination for high adventure. South Africa for example lays claim to the longest zipline in the world, and Slovenia is a mecca for spelunkers, with over 8,000 caves available to explore with a guide. Guided adventure travel is a great option, especially for avoiding crowds and getting the best experience possible.

Camaraderie and Achievement

If there’s two things that come out of just about every high adventure tour, it’s the sense of achievement one feels from facing fears and the camaraderie of fellow adventure enthusiasts.

One of the best parts of high adventure is there’s always room to “level up” meaning there is a starting point for everyone. Mountain climbing for example starts on small manageable hills but once you gain confidence you can challenge yourself to tougher and tougher outings.

The Changing Definition of Adventure

If you don’t think “adventure” trips are for you, think again. While the term does bring to mind daring feats pushing the limits of what’s possible, in reality most adventure tours and activities are very safe and cater to multiple levels of experience. Obviously there is some risk involved...this isn’t lounging on the beach! But if you’re on the fence, know that the experience is well worth it.
