What travelers are saying

"A Culture Trip curated trip is a must for anyone burnt out planning their own trips or going to a remote or unfamiliar area. Having a local insider was the highlight of the trip. From the moment we landed to the moment we had to go through security to leave, we were completely taken care of. Our insider gave us great recommendations for restaurants and was very adaptable to any situation that arose."

What travelers are saying

"We were looking at several guided tours for Japan, and finally, we decided to take this tour because we have done several Trafalgar tours before and the itinerary of this tour was amazing. It is a 13-day tour but we went 3-days in advance of the start of the tour to see and visit several Tokyo attractions such as the Hie and Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Govt building, Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Imperial Palace, The Tokyo National Museum and the Western Arts museum at Ueno (only museum in Japan with a Vermeer painting), Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree, Shinjuku Gyoen Garden, Ginza shopping, etc. We stayed in the Hotel New Otani Garden Tower which is located centrally and 5 Tokyo subway lines are available at Akasuka-Mitzsuka subway station for travel within a 4-minute walk from the hotel. All hotels that Trafalgar selected were very good and the food choices - including the vegetarian options for us were remarkable. We had 27 people in our group and everyone was very nice - people were from the U.S., Australia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. This tour gave us some remarkable and memorable experiences that we will cherish forever - such as seeing and visiting Mount Fuji, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Kotohira, Awaji, and Miyajima Islands. We enjoyed the Sushi making experience - the chef was humorous and the food was fabulous for us vegetarians, also the washi-making experience, the visiting Samurai houses in Kanazawa, Ryokan, and Kyoto Gion district tour, and two bullet train rides from Kanazawa to Kyoto and Hiroshima to Osaka. We live in Washington DC and we have cherry blossom trees in our yard and in the tidal basin the Washington so we were used to the Cherry blossoms, but we wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Japan so we selected this tour and the timing in late March. We booked the tour almost a year in advance but the cherry blossoms peak did not happen until we were in Osaka. There were some hiccups in the tour such as our Tour Director got injured and had to leave the tour a few days earlier, but Trafalagar was able to manage to substitute the local guides or replacement tour guides until the end of the tour. We selected this tour for Cherry Blossoms, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Mount Fuji and Kyoto. The Japanese people and society are very polite and the Tokyo Subway system is a man-made top 10 wonder in the 21st century and you have to experience it. We loved this tour and we will come back to Japan sometime in the future to visit some of the National Parks in Japan."

What travelers are saying

"Normally, I don't feel like writing reviews, but I felt compelled to do it for Athens Insiders. I made the decision to travel to Athens in the summer of 2012 in order to avoid the commotion that was predicted to result from the Queen's jubilee. As usual, my work kept me busy right up to the last minute, so I ran out of time to do anything fun for my week-long trip. I learned about this young group of tour guides for Athens and its vicinity from a friend. I had a wonderful experience. I got in touch with Daphne, who gave me email recommendations for Athens attractions to see, inquired about my preferences for local cuisine, and then devised an itinerary for my trip. In addition to visiting the typical suspects in Athens (Acropolis, etc.), I also chose to travel to Delhi and spend a night at a campground there. And I had a great time, honestly. We visited the attractions when there were few visitors and spent the busiest times outside of Athens rather than being herded around like cattle. I was taken to incredible tiny eateries (the well-known tavernas), marketplaces, and other regional shops."

Travel Tips for Historical Travel Tours

A historical travel tour offers an exciting opportunity for those passionate about the past to explore ancient civilizations with a historian guide. To make the most of your journey, here are some practical tips to enhance your history trip:
  • Familiarize yourself with the historical significance of the sites you visit to deepen your understanding and appreciation.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for walking and exploring historical sites, often involving uneven terrain and outdoor elements.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated, especially in warmer climates where historical sites may lack amenities.
  • Be mindful of local customs and traditions when visiting historical sites, and adhere to any dress codes or etiquette guidelines.
  • Take advantage of the expertise of your tour guide, who can provide valuable insights and historical context during your exploration.
  • Bring extra storage and charging devices to ensure you can capture all the photos you want of the historical sites you visit.
  • Remember to be respectful of any photography restrictions.
  • Carry essentials such as sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat to protect yourself from the elements during outdoor excursions.
  • Keep an open mind and be prepared for unexpected changes to the itinerary, as historical travel tours may encounter unforeseen challenges or delays.
