What travelers are saying

"Our guide Brook to us out on a 5hr glacier/ice cave tour on a rare good weather day. He was an excellent guide who focused on our safety and knowledge of the terrain we were exploring. You knew he was well experienced and loved what he was doing. Would book with Iceland Guides again!"

What travelers are saying

"I have just completed Guided Iceland Circle with driver/guide Bergsteinn. The tour was interesting and well paced. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. Bergsteinn did a good job of providing interesting information, but not too much commentary. Completing the Ring Road is a great way of seeing the different facets of Iceland as each region is quite different. I would definitely travel with GJ Travel again."

"I've traveled to Europe several times before but not like this. Thanks to Kelley and her amazing knowledge and patience with all my queries, my famiy and I enjoyed a customized itinerary filled with a food tour in Paris and a cooking lesson in Naples, history and art lessons at the British Museum and Musee D'Orsay, with enough time to travel independently and make new discoveries with less hassle than before. I absolutely recommend the Relaxed Explorer to anyone looking to make memorable trips with their families that will be cherished by all. Thank you so much Kelley!! Would love to make more good travel memories with your help!!"

Iceland Northern Lights Tour Selection Trips

  • Seeing The Northern Lights is very dependent on weather conditions. But on many tours if you do not see any lights, your guide will take you out the following night, complimentary. Plan your Northern Lights excursion earlier in your visit, so that you will have back up days should you not see them the first night.
  • The Northern Lights are a mecca for photography enthusiasts wanting to get those iconic shots. Be sure to use a tripod and research your cameras best night settings to capture a clean picture.
  • The best opportunities to see the lights are clear, dark skies - usually in fall or early spring. Summer skies are too bright for viewing, and cloudy, snowy skies can prevent viewing.
  • Avoid scheduling your aurora borealis tour when the moon is full, for the darkest skies. And be sure to get away from city lights. Peak viewing time is generally around midnight.
  • The surest time to see the lights is usually between September & October, or March & April though they are at their most vibrant in winter it’s far more likely you’ll miss them due to cloud cover.
  • Typically tours to see the lights departs around 8/9pm, returning around midnight. Be sure to dress warmly!
