I would definitely travel with GJ Travel again.

I have just completed Guided Iceland Circle with driver/guide Bergsteinn. The tour was interesting and well paced. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. Bergsteinn did a good job of providing interesting information, but not too much commentary. Completing the Ring Road is a great way of seeing the different facets of Iceland as each region is quite different. I would definitely travel with GJ Travel again.

Great Kayak trip

Thanks for the great one day Kayaktrip "2 Fjords": Good instruction, very interesting informations about vulcanic and glacial Iceland, 2 arctic foxes and a very good lunch. And last but not least: Great paddling

Amazing kayaking trip

We had an amazing 4 day kayaking trip with Borea in Hornstrandir! We've done kayaking trips around the world but this was one of the most professional and well-run operations we've ever seen Our tour guide Ronya was amazing, the gear was top notch and the itinerary they had put together was truly special - especially their lodge in Hornstrandir is super charming and in such a picturesque, remote place! (+ foxes visited every day! :-)

Had a wonderful night tour with Ingimundur

Just came back from Iceland and had a wonderful night tour with Ingimundur Stefánsson from Saga Travel. He was a great guide!!! We stopped in a spot when the Northern Lights appeared and was able to spend almost an hour and a half photographing the lights. Magnificent!!! Ingimundur was a great guide and while traveling around tracking the lights I learned much about Iceland's history from him. It was a great experience and would recommend Ingimundur and Saga travel to anyone who comes to Iceland.

Awful Customer Service

We felt obligated to give 1 star because our tour guide last night was great, other than that we would give zero if possible. The entire rest of the booking experience was awful. We had to send 3 emails, 2 calls, and 1 Facebook message only to be put in touch with some rude and unhelpful sales woman. It is our last day in Iceland and honestly this experience has ruined the entire trip and we are extremely upset. There are several other respectable tour companies here, I would strongly advise booking one of those.

Be warned: Stay away from this company!!

In November, I took a 3-day tour with Extreme Iceland. As part of the tour, I was supposed to do some glacier hiking, visit the ice caves and Jökulsárlón Iceberg Lagoon. Due to bad weather, just an hour after initiating the tour, the guide said that it was likely that the itinerary would be changed. We managed to make most of the scheduled activities for the first day. The second day was a complete waste of time, as we had to be in the vehicle the entire day. For the third day, they organized an alternative day tour. At the end, our 3-day tour got converted into a 2-day tour. They indicated that they would be offering a partial refund for modifying the itinerary and canceling a part of the tour. However, they never disclosed an approximate amount of how much they would refund. We were driven to their office so that we could ask that question in person, and again, they said there would be a refund. They did not know how much they would refund. To make things worse, to ask for the refund, it would be necessary to email their customer service department, but since they were too busy managing the mess they created, it took several weeks for them to respond. The weather in Iceland is unpredictable, so weather-related cancelations are not a rare occurrence and are not a fault of the company. That being said, how difficult is to tell their guides how much they would refund so that customers can decide at that point whether they want to continue with the tour or not? Instead, they like to make things complicated, nontransparent and shabby, so that they can keep as much money as possible. At the end, instead of getting a third of the cost of the tour (since one full day was wasted), they gave me a refund of about USD $180 (out of USD$800.00). Selecting this company for my tour was a terrible decision. In all my years of travel, I have never seen something like this, not even in poor countries. It is amazing how something like this can happen in a country with such 'high standards' as Iceland. Please stay away from this company and do not entrust them with your holiday plans or your money.

had a amazing time

If you want to ice climb don't bother looking around. My friend and I went with asgard beyond and had a amazing time. You get enough climbing time and a very friendly knowledgeable guide who walked us back over the glacier after it snowed without breaking a sweat.

I would highly recommend

My husband and I really enjoyed our hike on Sólheimajökull with this tour company. We were lucky because unlike other groups we saw these guys didn’t over book with a ton of people. We had a nice size group and our guide (Ragnar) took his time and educated us about the glacier and the surrounding volcanos. We never felt rushed and Ragnar helped with lots of pictures too. I would highly recommend these guys.

love of glaciers and memories of an amazing experience

We took 45 school children lava tube caving and hiking on Solheimajokull glacier on 16-17th February. Our guides were Raggi and Octovia - very knowledgeable, interesting and pitched it perfectly at our groups of childten. Kit and safety was explained clearly, we all now have a love of glaciers and memories of an amazing experience. I would highly recommend Asgard Beyond! Thank you

Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

Have just had an incredible week cycling along the Danube River through Germany, Austria and Bratislava on a UTracks Bike & Barge trip with my partner. We did a self-guided trip with electric bikes so we could set our own pace each day, stopping for long lunches in the sunshine, wine tastings, coffee in gorgeous ancient villages and side trips to castles, imperial palaces and monasteries, before returning to our boat each afternoon in time for drinks on the sundeck. I loved waking up on our boat in a new destination each day ready to explore the European countryside. Cannot wait for my next UTracks adventure.

My wife planned the trip for us and is the keen walker but now I think I'll be hooked. I'm ready to plan my next adventure. Thanks UTracks!

Best of China 2019

The tour guide Hubert was wonderful, very detailed oriented and organized. And had such an extensive knowledge of all the cities and locations we went to. Truly excellent! Personalized care and helpfulness was definitely offered throughout, very nice touch to the trip. Overall a great trip, but some considerations below: The hotel in Beijing – Novotel Peace and the hotel in Chengdu – Crowne Plaza were way below standard – maybe a rating of 2 stars. They were dirty, dark, stained and hot without air circulating in the rooms. After extensive days with waking up early and returning late, you just want to rest in a clean environment with cool air. I would never stay hotels like these. This trip is not for people who cannot handle extensive walking and climbing. Trafalgar lists this as from 5 to 99 years old. Not possible. There were days we did 10 miles of walking, just a caution for anyone considering. We had someone in our tour that was 82 years old and we all took turns taking care of him. Some aspects of the itinerary could be different, but think that is all based on personal preference; however my fellow travelers did feel the same way. The cruise down the Yangtze River was just ‘ok’, time could have been spent better elsewhere. Like Xian, truly amazing city but too short a time. NOTE: Some were charged single supplement, others were not ... I paid for the single supplement and was none too happy about that! Also note that you need to budget for the optional tours that are not included.

Excellent

Just finished our 8-day Britain and Ireland Delight Tour. We absolutely loved it. Everyday a different city/country or two with wall to wall options. There is generally one group meal and/or outing that is included daily and then the option for 2 or more additional outings every day. We chose to participate in most of the additional outings and just took a night off here and there for some r&r away from the group. There were 51 people on our tour from multiple countries, ages and backgrounds. There were some people who we formed strong bonds with and others who we barely talked to. This is a fast paced tour. Lots of early mornings after late nights. Travel time on the bus and ferries allowed for additional sleep. Can’t imagine spending a week in one destination, left to make decisions on our own. Trafalgar put together a trip better than anything we would have come up with on our own. Our guide was excellent. He was funny and personable and always willing to offer tips and advice for things to do in each city. We would do this type of tour again in a heartbeat.

Trafalgar is a name many seasoned travelers will recognize. A branch of the Travel Corporation, whose brands all enjoy stellar reputations, Trafalgar has been offering classic and affordable journeys for over 70 years. What Makes Trafalgar Stand Out? Trafalgar is a budget friendly group tour operator with premium tastes. Their motto is “See the world from the inside,” - this is the place to come for culturally rich and immersive travel experiences that don’t break the bank or the back. Tours are comfortable, not too physically demanding, and offer the opportunity to meet, talk, eat and drink with locals. You’ll get to know chefs, artisans, craftsmen, historians, and farmers as you explore what makes each destination truly special. Trafalgar has a strong reputation, having been around since 1947 - putting them right at the pinnacle of when many premier guided tour companies were established. You’ll meet groups of like minded travelers, enjoy cultural experiences, expertly crafted itineraries with local touches and experiences guides, while traveling in comfort and ease. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Trafalgar? If you are an active traveler, perhaps recently retired, eager to explore the world in comfort, visiting a nice combination of unique local spots and classic sites, then Trafalgar could be a great choice. Possibly you are new to group tours and packages, having been used to creating your own travel experiences at a younger age - Trafalgar provides the perfect introduction to group tours. Or maybe you’re traveling with a family and interested in introducing a new generation of travelers to your favorite country - but don’t really have the time or patience to worry about planning out all the logistics. While they offer many trip styles, suitable for travelers of all ages, their classic touch is popular among older travelers. Classic doesn’t mean old fashioned or tired - simply a bit less on the active adventure and more on the historic sights and cultural experiences. They have a number of family focused tours, as well as tailored trips for special interests. Trafalgar trips are budget friendly, with most trips in middle to low range, including a “Cost Saver” feature that allows you to see more inexpensive trips broken down by ratings and cost clearly. They offer several deals throughout the year. Trafalgar is a British brand, so many of the attendees on your tour will be from the UK.   Top Destinations With Trafalgar, you can find trips to Europe, USA & Canada, South America, Asia, Australia & New Zealand. While the destinations are widespread, Trafalgar trips explore the culture and guides take you to hidden local spots without venturing too far outside the comfort zone. Tours in Europe and the UK are among the most popular itineraries. In South America, Trafalgar travels to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. In Africa, they go to Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. In Asia, it’s Cambodia, China, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. And in the Pacific, Trafalgar visits Australia and New Zealand. Wherever you go, you can expect high quality guides and accommodations, and smooth travels. They also have a number of religious themed tours, including trips that include excursions to Oberammergau, Bavaria. Once a decade this small town presents a Passion Play, and Trafalgar has had special access since 1970. The next time to experience this unique event is 2020. Trafalgar Travel Style The Trafalgar travel style is all about getting to know the culture through activities and connecting with locals. Their main tagline is “Discover the Good Life” meaning getting to experience the real thing, in a safe, escorted environment with knowledgeable guides there to help with the language and provide historical and cultural context. Discovering the Good Life encompasses perks like skipping lines and private access to classic sites; and unique experiences that bring you to places and among people you’d never have the chance to meet traveling on your own. This kind of travel is local immersion, but not in the same way a 25 year old might interpret that idea. Rather than bunking at hostels, going out late at night, and enjoying potentially questionable street food, you’ll stay in premium, centrally located and culturally significant accommodations - everything from bed and breakfasts in Ireland to hotels right on the banks of Norwegian fjords.  Learn cooking techniques in Italy, enjoy private winery tours at French chateaus, and touring a small olive farm in Spain are just a few examples of the kind of unique travel experiences you can expect with Trafalgar. Groups are large, typically between 40-45 travelers, a max of 52 on trips in the USA and Canada. Primary transportation during the tour is in large coaches, equipped with WiFi (with the exception of Alaska) and featuring large viewing windows - ideal for taking in the scenery as you head to your next destinations.   Most meals during Trafalgar tours are included. Trips often include free time during which you can explore on your own, with suggestions from your expert guides. Why Choose a Tour with Trafalgar? Trafalgar has a solid reputation, and they stick to what they’ve done well for over 50 years. They focus on the classics, providing a culturally rich perspective as you meet locals along the way. Their experience has allowed them to cultivate relationships around the world with local businesses - quality control you can trust for every stop along the trip. Niche tours based on specialized interests are also something they are proud to offer. Trafalgar is where you go to have the essentials and logistics take care of seamlessly while you sit back and enjoy. Do note that these tours can be quite large - 40 people traveling together in a tour group can be stifling for some. While they appeal to an older crowd due to their history and recognizable name, Trafalgar has an impressively well integrated social media presence. Trips on their site are accompanied by instagram posts from real travelers who have been on the same tour, using the hashtag #SimplyTrafalgar. Old or young(ish), couple or single, traveling Simply Trafalgar inspires confidence, comfort, and enjoyment.

It was so much fun!

I have just finished The Real Cambodia tour, the 18-29 youth tour. It was so much fun! Our guide Channy was fantastic - he always had good places to take us, advice on everything, lots of local knowledge. The accommodation was generally good, the travel was good, and we did a lot of fun activities. This is my first time travelling with intrepid and I definitely recommend it. I’m already thinking of where I’d like to travel with them again!

Conditions was absolutely amazing

During our Kruger National Park experience with Intrepid we had a guide called Ann. We were lucky enough to have her as our guide for 3 trips during our stay! She’s a fantastic guide. Ann knows the animals behaviour very well and she quick to act on different potential sightings. We were on our way back to the lodge when a storm was approaching us. Ann was very calm, made sure the vehicle was safe and provided us with rain jackets! The storm was intense (thundering, lighting and hale stone) Ann made us feel very safe and secure, she warned us what to do if the storm got worse. How she managed to get us out of the storm and drive in such bad conditions was absolutely amazing and can’t thank her enough for getting us back safety! After a such a journey back I gave Ann a massive hug to say thank you but I feel that wasn’t enough, so I wanted to let Intrepid know how wonderful your lovely staff member Ann is! So Thank you, Abbey

I just returned from an awesome experience

I just returned from an awesome experience - travelled solo on the Intrepid Golden Triangle. What an experience. Had an amazing guide Anthika, who ensured we were safe and well looked after. Our driver/mate all good and the bus was very comfy for the long drives. We were a mixed group of male and females and solo travellers and a couple. We all looked out for each other and built friendships along the lines. Go with an open mind and enjoy the experience. Be aware that India has a different culture to our / your own, read up before you go and it will be one of the most rewarding experiences ever. I loved it :)

Intrepid Travel is all about ‘real life experiences.’ Founded back in 1989 following an “intrepid” African adventure trip, Intrepid lives up to its name by offering up some pretty big adventures -- such as an 11-day hike through Papua New Guinea -- but is broad-based enough to also lead group trips to Hawaii, complete with sipping sunset Mai Tais on Waikiki Beach. Intrepid Travel - Quick Facts Founded in 1989 No Single Supplement (rare exceptions) Small Groups - max 16 on most trips Typical Age Range - 18 - 45 Travel Style - Cultural immersion, adventure, overland Accommodation Style - Camping, Hostels, 3 /4 star hotels Average Tour Price - $2,377 Top Regions - Asia, Africa, Europe, South America Other Brands: Peregrine, Geckos Commonly compared with G Adventures » What Makes Intrepid Travel Stand Out? Above all else, Intrepid strives to get its travelers off the beaten path and under the surface of the local culture. To accomplish this, group sizes average just 10 travelers each, with a maximum of 16 on most trips. This allows for more use of local transportation and lodging, along with fostering cultural immersion. Intrepid also employs local English-speaking leaders who act more as a resource for local exploration than do typical ‘guides,’ shepherding groups from one place to another. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Intrepid Travel? Intrepid is one of the early pioneers of the “adventure”-style guided trip. Despite its informal beginnings and emphasis on younger, highly adventurous travelers, Intrepid has expanded to a global company with a broad range of trips to fit all ages. Intrepid divides its small-group trips into three separate styles of travel, all priced accordingly. “Basix,” for budget travelers, keep inclusions to a minimum and offer plenty of free time, “Original” journeys which offer more included activities and more hotels, while “Comfort” trips offer the highest level of included activities and standards of accommodation, as well as roomier vehicles. The kind of traveler who gravitates to Intrepid Travel is one who has a real sense of adventure - whether this means hard adventure, or simply going deeper off the beaten path. Interacting with locals is an important factor when you travel, as is gaining a unique cultural perspective. A sense of fun is also essential, whether it means going out at night with your tour mates or daring, ahem, encouraging each other to try strange new foods. Top Destinations Originally focused on small group adventure tours to Asia, Intrepid has expanded rapidly over the years, while maintaining its classic, adventurous, and immersive style. Today Intrepid Travel offers more than 1,000 different experiences in over 100 countries, on all seven continents. Regions with the most trips include Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. Intrepid Travel Style Intrepid enjoys using local, unique forms of transportation. You might find yourself traveling by felucca in Egypt, on a camel in Morocco, or in a tuk-tuk on the best Thailand tour of your life. Accommodations, which could range from guesthouses to home stays, are also locally owned, allowing a more authentic taste of the region while contributing to the local economy. There are a few broad travel styles to choose from when deciding on an Intrepid tour: 1. Basix - Budget travelers who don’t mind, and in fact prefer, simple accommodations - camping and homestays with basic amenities, and crave a lot of free time for exploring independently will love these tours. Public transportation is used exclusively so pack light! These trips often attract a younger crowd who love the idea of throwing a backpack on, keep plenty of room for the unexpected in their schedule, and allocate their travel funds towards spontaneous bus tickets and street food instead of museum tours and 5 star restaurants. 2. Original - These trips take the backpacker spirit of local immersion, incorporating all the benefits that come with going with a planned itinerary. This style is called “Original” because it’s the type of travel that put Intrepid on the map...pun intended. Accommodations are still simple and budget minded - often homestays are used to give you a true sense of place, personality, and culture. Mostly public transportation is used. 3. Comfort - Intrepid is known for the active adventure style of travel and these trips keep that mentality, with a few more creature comforts thrown into the mix. You can expect higher end, more discerning, accommodations that include a wider variety of included amenities, transportation is mostly private, though you can still expect to use some public transport, as is the Intrepid way. More meals are included in the trip price, and more group activities - which means a bit less free time to explore on your own. Why Choose a Tour With Intrepid Travel? Intrepid is a good choice if you don’t mind foregoing some creature comforts for a truly authentic, local experience. If you enjoy meeting locals when traveling, sampling new and exciting foods, and traveling in mixed-aged groups of 10-16 people, Intrepid could be a good fit for you. It’s important to note, sometimes “ample free time” can be a blessing and a curse. It sounds great on paper, but if you’re looking to maximize your dollar and your vacation time, be sure you understand the implications of having a lot of free time during your itinerary. For some travelers this is an absolute requirement, but for others it can be tough to branch off and explore independently - you also need to make sure you allocate enough travel money for independent meals. The tour leaders are great resources of information for how to spend your free time, but if you like having a full day scheduled from breakfast to dinner, Intrepid may not be the best company for you. Lastly, if sustainable and responsible travel is important to you, Intrepid has poured millions of dollars into local economies, and has a very strong emphasis on responsible travel. So you can feel good knowing that your money helps support some of the innkeepers, vendors, and communities that you’ll meet along the way.

Exploring these Hidden Kingdoms was delightful!

Stride Travel site helped me find the exact trip of my dreams. I put in the places I wanted to visit and many tours came up. I could easily research each tour - the difficulty, pace and most importantly price. The site was easy to use and great benefit as it shows proven and reliable operators and I felt confident in their choice as all the reviews and information was right there. I would definitely use Stride as my search engine as they simplified the process and gave access to all the necessary information I needed. From there I compared and chose Inside Hidden Kingdoms offered by EXPLORE. The tour company was great…I actually talked to a person in North America re the trip. Questions were answered promptly by phone or email. Prices were as stated. The tour itself was amazing. Our guide Udaya was affable and responsive to requests and needs of the group. …he was one of us - a guiding light with a great sense of humour. On the tough climbs he stayed with the slowest and encouraged us all. The tour was everything I could hope for from 2 relaxing days touring the Sunderbans by boat something I wanted to experience close up. Our travels to North Bengal including train and bus were amazing and informative. The local guides chosen by EXPLORE were flexible and receptive to questions, queries and planning. Every guide from the Sunderbans to Darjeeling to Bhutan was excellent, local and well chosen We had some tough drives through construction in Sikkim and our drivers couldn’t have been better…we always felt safe on all our mountain drives with our competent drivers chosen. The variety and pace was also fun - We camped, stayed in cabins and hotels - some were especially beautiful. The information noted it would be full on and it was but not so much to exhaust. We were up at dawn to see the sun rise over the mountain…relaxed in a boat in the Sunderbans, experienced Kolkata and Katmandu, were in traffic jams in hectic Gangtok and experienced tea estates and rice fields, highlands and valleys, jungles on our many travel days. We enjoyed Darjeeling and the toy train, Sikkim’s many faces but I think we really enjoyed the Hidden Kingdom of Bhutan…a small interesting newly opening country. Our guides here were full of stories, history, and characters. We walked through rice fields freshly harvested, climbed Tigers Nest with very patient guides and camped by the Mochu River. The food throughout the trip was tasty and filling. The breakfasts provided were very substantial for our busy days. There were no surprises as from the beginning we knew we had many long travel days up and down the valleys and mountains which I loved to see. Throughout we had the steady guidance of Uddaya as plans progressed or changed according to the weather, season, traffic or festival in progress. Food, lodging, pace were exactly as stated but what is impossible to write is the experience itself full of wonderful people, fun things to try or taste, challenges met and experiences galore. Stride brought me to Explore and Explore fulfilled its promise….. Thank you for a trip of a life through West Bengal and these Hidden Kingdoms

Very memorable holiday for adults and children.

Just arrived home from a week in Morocco on the family "Rock the Kasbah" adventure. I would like to say not only how great the activities were but also how good the the tour guide Fouad, the two drivers and cook were. Engaged with the kids well, informative, fun and interested in the groups wellbeing and enjoyment. As a benchmark it doesn't get much better when sleeping in the Sahara. And as a pointer, if in Marrakech the attached images show information for an Explore owned Restaurant that is a must for food, hospitality and setting.

A fabulous experience

My daughter and I have just completed this tour. We had a brilliant guide, an entertaining driver and a great group of fellow travellers. We did the camping option. The tents were easy to set up and disassemble. The mattresses provided were very comfortable. The food was excellent in quality and quantity. We saw many animals and travelled through some amazing National Parks viewing incredible wildlife. I strongly recommend this tour.

Founded in 1981, Explore is a global adventure outfitter with a wide range of active trips across various styles. They are headquartered in the U.K. but have recently opened an office in the United States to service American customers. What Makes Explore Stand Out? Explore has 30+ years of experience delivering high-quality active adventure trips. They keep groups to a manageable size of 14-16 travelers to encourage a more authentic, memorable experience for all. Explore also uses local leaders and local accommodation whenever possible, so you can be sure to get the local perspective on everything from the history and culture to the best restaurants and bazaars. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Explore? Active travelers seeking a fun, interesting travel experience. They offer 450 trips in over 120 countries with trips trending towards the more active side. Think cycling, trekking, and walking. If you are the kind of traveler whose suitcase is more active wear than formal wear, Explore is your kind of travel company. While it is possible to find Explore trips where culture and urban exploration are more the focus, where just a minimum level of fitness is required, their speciality is definitely in breaking a (small) sweat while traveling. Tours with Explore are open to all ages, and they even have a whole group of Family Friendly tours available. Because you will be active, being relatively physically fit is going to help your enjoyment level exponentially - and some tours are more difficult than others. Be sure to check the Tour Pace and physical requirements. Top Destinations Explore travels to all seven continents (yes, including Antarctica!) and offers trips in over 120 countries. Explore Travel Style Besides Small Group Tours, which is what they are known for, you can also book Private tours, which are great for large families or corporate trips, Tailormade - for those who want something ultra-personalized, and Self Guided trips when you don’t need a guide with you every step of the way. Explore offers three classes of travel: Simple, Classic, and Premium, with the majority of trips categorized as 'Classic.' Expect to pay a bit more for 'Premium' tours as they usually offer more included meals and a higher class of accommodation. As always, accommodations with Explore are chosen for their character and the more they provide a uniquely immersive experience, the better. Another nice feature is Explores 'Tour Pace' designation, which is on a scale from 'Relaxed' to 'Full On,' with most trips falling in between as 'Moderate' or 'Busy.' Explore travel themes are all active focused. They weave cultural travel highlights into their activities, so while you will be on a “cycling tour” or “hiking tour” Explore recognizes that you are also a traveler. Why Choose a tour with Explore? Choose Explore if you are looking for a more active trip without a lot of creature comforts. Explores trips are very well priced, and leave some flexibility in terms of meals. Expect mixed-aged groups with the average traveler in their 30s as well as a mix of nationalities, but trending towards mostly Brits. Additionally, Explore is very active in practicing responsible tourism and supports a number of different local charities in various destination countries.

Based in Paris, Evaneos is similar to a travel agency, though with a heavily personal and social community touch. What Makes Them Stand Out? Evaneos puts you in touch with local travel agents who are there to help you design a custom trip catered to what you want to see and do. They provide easily accessible sample itineraries to help you design the perfect trip.   They are also an effective tool for local travel agents and DMC’s to find new clients. In essence, Evaneos allows the traveler to get directly in touch with the resources often used by traditional tour companies. If you are on the fence about whether you want a small group guided tour, speaking with an agent from Evaneos can clear this up. Agents have a lot of flexibility - and you can still join a tour through them if you end up deciding this is the right mode of travel. Discussing one on one with a local expert can help make this decision clearer! Who Travels With Them? Evaneos attracts a younger traveler seeking creative control over their travel experience. This is also apparent in how they’ve structured their social community. They will appeal most to travelers who are somewhat budget conscious, care about responsible and sustainable travel, and value having a local guide. Evaneos agents are helpful for providing local expertise and knowledge about how to make your trip ideas fit into a viable itinerary. Where Do They Operate? Currently trips are available all over the world, excepting Antarctica - a majority of tours are centered in Europe and Asia, and very few travel to North America. Why Travel With Them? You may be thinking that a guided tour isn’t right, but also may be unsure about creating your own travel experience from scratch. If you are looking for help crafting an experience that has a local focus, with professional input this is a great way to find agents and travel advisors to help you do just that. Prices vary, but are generally affordable - around the same amount as a group tour but this is a great option if you’re looking for something a bit different than a traditional tour. Unlike a traditional travel agent, flight arrangements are not always included.

G adventure does great on multi sport for multi ages

We have done 2 previous G Adventure trips that went really well. This one did not let us down. G Adventure does a great job to get your ready with your To GO packet. Coordinator/CEO did an excellent job throughout! Meet and great hotel was upgraded and having stayed at both their change was a good choice. Day 2 Bike ride through Karangahake Gorge was lovely and mostly down hill, and easily manged by most anyone and followed by night at Maori lodge ,culture experience and cookout - a highlight! Our group was diversified in ages from late 20's to active 70's with activity options and pace to meet every age or risk factor. Itinerary of activities as described and delivered was very good to excellent; and well enjoyed. For my husband and myself Day 5 - the time at Duck Station/ Whanganui River Station and canoeing on the Whanganui River was the highlight. Our excellent CEO at times needed to multi task too much as both bus driver, tour guide and guide/ booker for off days i.e. as in Rotorua - ideally G Adventures should have both a bus driver and tour guide. She did an exceptional job but having seen how it works when both guide and bus tour driver are supplied - feel G Adventure should supply both. Tongariro National Park hike Day 4 was cancelled due to weather but again our CEO came up with exceptional and meaningful tour option of supplemental Maori village tour. Jet boating on Whangagui River at end of Duck Station stay as part of return trip from river canoe and kayaking was fun but not quite life memory or overly physically stressful. Transition day 6 - drive on way to Wellington with night at Snowy Lodge was fun evening following an ad hock tour arranged by CEO on way. Day 7 - off day in Wellington was very much on our own time and a bit of a filler as CEO having to focus on next group welcome and start up and we shared our good bye dinner with their meet and great - my opinion not ideal? Overall events were graded at an 8. People on the tour and our Ceo made it an 9! No trip is perfect but this one was very good and we will be back for more of G Adventure.

Specializing in small-group, multi-day adventure tours and expeditions, Toronto-based G Adventures has been a pioneer in the field since 1990. Founded by entrepreneur Bruce Poon Tip after a backpacking trip to Asia, the company fosters sustainable and environmentally sound tourism practices -- giving back to the communities they visit -- and considers its business “changig people’s lives,” not just offering a vacation. It’s since grown to become the world’s largest independent adventure travel company, with more than 1,350 employees, many of them professionally trained guides. What Makes G Adventures Stand Out? Trips with G Adventures are all encompassing, adventurous, exciting, and fulfilling. Since the beginning, G Adventures has maintained a strong message of engaging with local cultures, being a responsible traveler, and contributing back to communities. Their trips are designed to be life changing. G Adventures strives to create unique experiences for its travelers that start even before the trip itself. The company provides trip inspiration through their Looptail blog and you can connect with fellow travelers via the ‘Departure Lounge’, which is part of G’s ‘Watering Hole’ travel forum. Once on your trip, you will meet your ‘CEO’ or ‘Chief Experience Officer’ who is “responsible for enriching your journey, offering local insight, and pursuing great experiences as they happen.” Most groups average around 12 travelers, with a maximum of 16 on most trips. G Adventures has made a concerted effort to expand their offering beyond youth focused adventures, though this remains a core theme. Your Danube River Cruise will be imbued with the same culturally immersive and adventurous touch as your trekking journey through the Himalayas. Who Will Enjoy Traveling With G Adventures? If you are the kind of traveler who packs running shoes before dress shoes, hiking attire before dinner attire, and a sense of adventure before playing it safe, then G Adventures is the perfect fit for you. You love engaging with locals, meeting new people, and being spontaneous. You also favor experiences over luxury accomodations. Most G Adventures tours have an active focus - expect to be on the move, packing a lot in. That said they do allot generous free time to explore on your own. There’s a chance you may not see every major tourist attraction in the interest of a more “real” experience. But the nice thing is if a particular site is not on the itinerary, you can use your free time to visit. If you are interested in a tour that plans every part of the itinerary down to the minute, G Adventures will probably not be the best fit for you.  While its target market has traditionally been younger travelers in the 18-39 range, G Adventures has expanded significantly, now offering a broad range of trips that appeal to adventurous-minded, culturally curious people of any age. Groups are geographically diverse, with a higher proportion of North Americans than some other operators. G Adventures also does not charge a single supplement, so solo travelers are very welcome on their trips. They offer numerous travel styles, some at a higher budget range, like their National Geographic Journeys. Most G Adventures trips are accessible to low to mid budgets and are ideal for travelers who like experiential small group active travel. Top Destinations   You can find G Adventures trips in most parts of the globe, including 32 countries in Europe, 25 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, 21 countries in Asia, 10 countries in South America, 12 countries in Central America and the Caribbean, five countries in North Africa and the Mideast, plus the U.S., and Canada. A number of destinations are well off the beaten track, from Sao Tome and Principe in West Africa to Borneo in east Asia to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean and both polar regions. Itineraries often focus on more off the beaten path locations; small towns, remote and rural villages, less touristy districts and sites. G Adventures Travel Style Pricing is competitive (cheaper), largely by using “grassroots” approaches: local transport and a mix of privately-owned accommodations, perhaps including homestays and camping. Efforts are made to focus on authenticity with both culinary choices (locally-owned restaurants) as well as transportation methods. G Adventures truly offers something for everyone. Trip styles include Classic, Active, Rail, YOLO (You Only Live Once - for 18-39’s), National Geographic Journeys, Marine, Family, Local Living, and Private Groups. Classic - Classic trips with G Adventures are designed for independent minded travelers who don’t want to miss anything. This is the perfect choice if you want a balanced mix of classic tourist sights and local cultural experiences. Active - Throwing it back to one of the things G Adventures does best. Kayak, walk, hike, trek; experience your destination through the outdoors. These multi-sport trips are great if you hate standing still and enjoy being out in nature. G Adventures Active tours are ideal for those who are relatively physically fit and like a challenge. Rail - A rail journey is a great way to dial it back. Take it slow and really savor the feeling of the journey. Take iconic routes and enjoy the ride. YOLO - “You only live once” is the acronym, and while G Adventures provides adventurous experiences for all, these trips are specifically designed for 18-39 year olds. Get cheeky, get wild, experience life unfettered, as you explore the culture and the local nightlife. If you have the stamina, these trips are once in a lifetime. Kind of like the age range. National Geographic Journeys - A more premium travel experience, these G Adventures trips, as part of a partnership with National Geographic Expeditions, involve the same culturally immersive approach and knowledgeable guides with an elevated level of accommodations and service. Marine - Love to be out on the water? Let G Adventures cruises take you to the far reaches of the globe via river and ocean. Experience incredible sights above and below the surface. Unpack once and enjoy the escape of being a part of the crew and passengers. Family - Adventure tours aren’t always especially friendly to younger travelers. G Adventures Family Friendly tours make adventure activities accessible for you and your youngsters! Trips often have an educational element, and are designed with multiple ages in mind. Local Living - Get to the heart of it with a homestay. These tours are designed to make you really feel at home and appreciate the feel and rhythm of living like a local. Private Groups - If you and your family, or a group of friends want the fun all to yourself, G Adventures can plan a private group trip just for you. Note: part of the culturally immersive experience when traveling with G Adventures is the use of public transportation. This means carrying your own luggage on buses, trains, etc - sometimes during commute hours! So pack light for your own comfort and the comfort of those around you. Why Choose a Tour With G Adventures? For those travelers seeking an exciting, professionally guided, and culturally immersive travel experience G Adventures is the perfect tour company to consider. Their trips are designed to be as authentic as possible - and they place much emphasis on giving back to local communities - so you’ll know your tourism dollars are going toward meaningful causes. Trips with G Adventures are not luxury by any means. But if unique experiences and active days appeal to you over a fluffy pillow then you’re in the right place. Departures are guaranteed once you’ve paid (barring significant weather or safety issues). And they don’t charge single supplements. In short, G Adventures wants you out there with them. You can find something for everyone at G Adventures; whether that’s sailing down the Danube with a glass of wine in hand, or traipsing through the rainforests of Costa Rica. FAQ 1. What kind of luggage should I bring? On many G Adventures trips it’s important to keep in mind that local public transportation is used frequently. Sometimes during commute hours! For your comfort and the comfort of those around you, it’s a good idea to pack light. Some areas will be very crowded, so take pickpocket precautions. 2. Do I need travel insurance? Yes! Travel insurance is required for all travelers on G Adventures trips. If you don’t have your own insurance already, you can purchase a plan for the time you’ll be traveling when you book your G Adventures tour. This is an easy and budget friendly option. If you’re interested in browsing more plans, check out the top travel insurance options » 3. Is airfare included? Unfortunately no. While G Adventures does not include international airfare in their trip prices, they can help you book flights. 4. Is there a single supplement? No. G Adventures does not charge a single supplement for their tours. Single travelers are very welcome. You will share with a same-sex roommate during the tour. If you wish to have a single room, there is usually an option to pay an additional fee for your own room. 5. Is there an age cap? While G Adventures trips tend to appeal largely to younger adventure travelers, all ages are welcome on the majority of trips. The exceptions include on their 18-39 tours, which are specifically designed for only travelers within that range. On most other G Adventures trips, children under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian, and are open to kids 12 and up. Some family friendly trips are open to younger kids. 6. What size are the groups? G Adventures group tours are kept small and intimate. The max is 15, with the average hovering more around 10.

Bad trip leader experience

The activities were a mixture of good and repetitive and the description of the game drives seems a little embellished. We didn't encounter hardly any elephants and the leopard sighting is apparently not as common as one might think (2-3 a week according to local guide). While we were "fortunate" to observe one, it was so far away that only a 400mm lens would get to see it, but that's after you fight through about 40 vehicles all converging to a single space in order to catch a glimpse before the park warden hurries you on because your time is up! It's also a madhouse trying to get into the park. There is no orderly fashion while up to a hundred vehicles all vie to be first in the gate (this is at Yala). The biggest downside to the trip was our trip leader. On two occasions when we had questions about the activities, he became very defensive and argumentative, and when trying to walk away from the conversation so that it didn't escalate further, he followed us intent on exclaiming what a good guide he's been and that we were the problem. We walked away again, and yet he still following us turning the conversation into harassment. I was glad when the trip ended to get away from him and if it weren't for having another back-to-back Exodus trip (see Maldives review) immediately following this one, I would have never wanted to travel with Exodus again given that experience. In sum, trip leader very poor (astonishingly so) and trip itinerary could improve by offering more variety/flexibility to wildlife viewings rather than doing the same repeat walks 3 times. All food was at hotels so not much of a variety or local fare encountered. Lovely country and lovely people though and group was great!

The most stunning trip of my life

Its been a long held dream of mine to go to the Antarctic and the trip I booked via Exodus far exceeded my expectations. Amazing scenery, captivating and exciting wildlife, a plethora of facts, figures and general education from the on board experts and I can claim a world first to boot from my holiday to the Antarctic and below the polar circle. The landscapes and wildlife. The scenery is breathtaking, from the continent itself to the many islands and icebergs floating away from the land mass and glaciers. I have never seen anywhere quite so remote and in many ways barren, yet at the same time rich in life and activity. And you will never get over the amazing shapes of the ice along with the vivid blues you see in the glaciers and icebergs. Quite sensational. The penguins are of course the stars, but the frequency of whale sightings and fluking along with seals and many type of birds including the mighty albatross just make the experience even more rewarding. The tour leader is in effect an Expedition Leader fronting a large team of professional from a range of countries. Ours was wonderful. An enormous personality and with the best sense of humour coupled with safety and huge amounts of professional integrity. The people in the expedition team were sensational. They come from a mix of backgrounds, however all have skills in subjects ranging from glaciology to water sports instructor, polar researcher to the armed forces, historian to nature and much more. Not only do you get the chance to attend lectures and learn from them on a really diverse range of topics, but they also accompany the trips off the ship and interact with you during meals and drinks as well as on time when you are cruising. They have both professionally and also personally empowering stories to tell and they really enhanced my trip in a way I did not think possible. If you want to do any of the activities then book them up as soon as you make your reservation. Spaces are limited and I was unable to camp on the ice or take part in kayaking. Don't worry about being cold. Its not actually as cold as you imagine and the ship is fantastically warm and homely. The jacket and boots they supply you with are excellent. Concentrate on buying good quality thermals in layers along wit6h waterproof trousers and gloves and a warm fleece or wool hat. Edit your photos as you go along and always be ready to shoot stuff. The onboard team will help you with this as they have photographers ready to help with your trip. I was in the first group of paddleboarders believed to have ever paddleboarded south of the Antractic Circle. Not only had I never done it before, but we got to claim a world first. Finally don't delay going any longer. It may not be a cheap trip, however it is so amazing and experience that you will not regret the time and expense in going.

A magical trip! One of my best ever!

This trip far exceeded my expectations on every level. The underwater wildlife encounters were superior to any other snorkeling I've done. There's an abundance of things to see and coupled with the chance to scuba dive and excellent water conditions - it's a top notch destination. The boat was very comfortable, the crew was excellent and took care of every need, and the food was awesome. Ranks as one of my all-time favorites!

Great trip to Sicily

Very knowledgeable and customer service reps were great. Our tour leader and bus driver were the best. Great trip to Sicily to see where our grandparents came from.

I would definitely recommend Collette!

We just came back from Sicily. Our tour manager Jovanka Mrdja was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. Our driver Franco was also wonderful. He made us feel very safe while navigating the narrow, windy roads. I would definitely recommend Collette and look forward to touring with them again and would love to have Yovanka as our guide

If you don't want to be encouraged to jump in and push your comfort zone a bit, you may find yourself out of step on a majority of Collette tours. Though they have several offerings, so don't let that discourage you.  Collette is ideal for active travelers who enjoy a comprehensive guided tour, with a lot of activity, and local experiences. These tours usually involve extensive walking, sometimes over uneven surfaces, so a certain basic level of physical fitness is required. Tours are classified by 5 basic physical levels, to help you find one best suited to you. Free days are included in most tours, giving travelers time to relax, take walks on the beach, or maybe do some shopping. If you’re the kind of traveler for whom the a glass of champagne out in the blazing sun of the Australian outback, gazing at Uluru, sounds idyllic - then Collette tours would be perfect for you. Top Destinations Collette tours travel all around the world, to all 7 continents including Antarctica. They are well known for Central and South America, Australia, and Africa. They also offer an impressive variety of North America tours including several in the United States and Canada. Travel styles include everything from river cruises to family tours to faith based tours. Collette Travel Style Collette promises the “trip of a lifetime” through exclusive outings, luxury touches, and appreciating the moments of anticipation before the world reveals itself. Their travel style is about discovering new cultures, embracing the explorer within -- in time for a cocktail at the end of the day. They have 6 broad classifications for travel style: Classic, Explorations, Spotlights, River Cruise, Faith, and Impact Travel: 1. Classic Collette Tours - This is what they call their Flagship collection, group tours that make the postcard come to life. Visit all the must see sites, enjoy cultural experiences, all with a professional and knowledgeable guide, there to help make your travel as seamless as possible. Groups are on the larger side 2. Explorations - These tours are about going deeper, meeting locals, and getting off the beaten path. “Authenticity” is a big word for Collette Explorations. You’ll experience the destination in a smaller group, an average of 18 people, allowing for access to more local experiences not available to larger groups. Classic sites will also be included in your itinerary, but the focus is mostly on unique experiences. 3. Spotlights - Have a shorter amount of time and don’t want to miss anything? Collette Spotlight tours are designed to maximize your city stay or short getaway experience. These are primarily walking tours, packed with sightseeing, historical and cultural information, but with some downtime as well. Typically these tours are between 5-9 days. 4. River Cruise - A very popular mode of travel, particularly for 50+ travelers, river cruising is ideal for those seeking a leisurely vacation, unpacking only once, enjoying gliding by beautiful sites and participating in various guided shore excursions. Collette river cruises go around the world, including China, Egypt, and Europe. 5. Faith - For those travelers interested in visiting religious sites, Collette has a group of tours dedicated to faith based travel. Visit world famous icons and learn their ancient histories. Collette Faith tours visit everything from grand churches to the humble beginnings of the three major world religions in the Holy Land. Tours are history based with an emphasis on finding deeper spiritual significance and meaning. 6. Impact Travel - Being a responsible traveler is an important component on all Collette tours, however if you’re seeking to do more to give back, their Impact Tours are a great way to do so. Sightsee with a purpose as you assist with local initiatives, volunteering among the community, helping in classrooms, and protecting local wildlife. Why Choose a Tour with Collette? If you are looking for an entertaining, fully escorted, active tour to explore new cultures, and enjoy unique experiences, Collette could be for you. They provide a dedicated guide, and handle all the details throughout the tour. Free time is available on some days, but for the most part expect fairly full itineraries and a good amount of walking. Some optional excursions are offered during the tour, so you can tailor your experience to a certain extent. This is a great opportunity for meeting fellow travelers in a similar age range. Collette tours are open to everyone, but the majority of people on your tour will be older - in the 50+ range. Collette tours are ideal for travelers who want to have fun, enjoy the outdoors, and are open to new experiences.

Winter Spirit around Europe!

I did the 24 day Winter Spirit around Europe! I would definitely recommend booking a Topdeck tour! It was the best experience ever. Doing my second Topdeck in July around New Zealand!

Most amazing experience ever!

Did Uluru discovery in Australia and Grand Kiwi in NZ back in November and it was the most amazing experience ever! Awesome guide and driver. Well organized and took great care of us! Only one bad hostel accommodation wise, but other than that it was amazing. It was so nice not having to worry about accommodations, transportation, and most meals when we got there! On the days it wasn’t included, the guide/driver would tell us what’s in the area! For sure will be doing another topdeck tour in the future!

Extremely knowledgeable

My partner and I just completed the 20 day Discover Winter tour and it was absolutely outstanding! What really made the trip though was the Trip Leader, Alex, and the driver, Deyan. They were both extremely knowledgeable people and explained everything we needed to know to enjoy every place we went to. I highly recommend this tour and hope that everybody else has the opportunity to meet Alex and Deyan.

Founded in 1973, Topdeck has been providing fun, adventurous trips around the world for 18-39 for over 40 years. What Makes Topdeck Travel Stand Out? Topdeck tour focuses on providing friendly and authentic guided group tours where like-minded 18-39 year old travelers can have amazing group experiences. There are several trip types to choose from, from camping, to immersive, to multi destination, to sailing. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Topdeck? Sociable, adventurous, budget conscious 18-39 year olds are the kinds of traveler who will gravitate to Topdeck. Though they offer a few different distinct travel styles, there is definitely a sense of an ongoing party, with travel as the conduit and underlying shared interest. If the idea of being around a group of similarly aged people - many of whom may be exploring internationally for the first or second time - being spontaneous, and meeting locals (often in the environment of bars or clubs) is unappealing, then Topdeck may not be your cup of tea. Introverted travelers, or those for whom an extensively planned itinerary including many museums and historical sites is ideal, may want to hunt around before choosing a Topdeck tour. That is not to dissuade the more observational traveler - who may very well find a group they gel with perfectly on a Topdeck tour. Only to caution that you will be surrounded by several extroverted personalities. The bottom line is if you are game for anything, are traveling on a budget, and don’t mind fairly basic but comfortable accommodations and inexpensive meals - sometimes on the go - then you will enjoy the Topdeck tour experience. Top Destinations Topdeck has tours throughout the world, in Europe, Australia & New Zealand, North America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Topdeck Travel Style The Topdeck travel style is tied quite specifically to their audience. These tours are great for youthful and energetic 18-39 year olds looking for a good time and to make new friends. In the interest of keeping their tours affordable, travelers with Topdeck will need to make a few allowances. For example, hostels and hotels may be situated quite far away from the city centers. You can also expect some long travel days. The more of a good sense of humor and adventure you have, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. Why Choose a Tour With Topdeck Feeling the urge to connect with travelers in your age group, have fun, and make lasting friendships? Topdeck has over 40 years of experience in adventure travel, which has helped them create epic low cost trips for 18-30 somethings. These tours are certainly not for those who prefer to take things slow. You will be running around, moving between a lot of places - which in some cases means very long bus rides - going out a lot, meeting new people, and staying active throughout your tour. If your ideal travel experience is more methodical and planned out in nature, Topdeck may not be for you. But if you are an adventurous and social travelers eager to absorb a new culture and make new friends, then hop on board!

amazing beyond all our expectations

We arrived home last week following an 11 day tour with Peregrine Plus, Lima, The Sacred Valley and Lake Titikaka. It was amazing beyond all our expectations. Our private guide was a Peruvian local, English speaking, he was excellent great local knowledge and organised everything like clockwork. Our accommodation was brilliant we were treated like royalty, check out Hotel B in Lima, Sol Luna Urubamba and Hotel Belmond Monasterio in Cusco. Would highly recommend this tour and look forward to another experience with Peregrine in the future. 1 Comment

Fabulous time with a wonderful guide, Jorge.

This trip was fabulous and it was made even better with the knowledge and expertise of our Spanish-speaking guide, Jorge Riofru. Jorge smoothed over all our difficulties and showed us the real Peru that is his homeland. He was able to ensure that my coeliac diet was catered for even when we were trekking to Machu Picchu! this trip was enhanced by the deep knowledge and love that Jorge has for his country. this has been one of the best trips ever.

What an AMAZING 6 week trip of 6 countries!

My first ever trip in smaller numbers - loved it, yes, loved it so much as we could do things that larger groups can not do. Ecuador, Peru including the Amazon region, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil were awash with fantastic experiences with the stunning and majestic sights, the people and their culture, the food, animal and bird life and of course, what I accomplished by surprising myself at the Incan ruins. Our guides, Alejandro in Ecuador, Sally in Peru and Sabina in Chile, Argentina and Brazil were just the best Ambassadors for Peregrine as they showed such passion for their country and genuine care for each of our small number to return home with amazing memories to abide in our hearts forever. Muchas Gracias to each of you as you have touched my life with a very special imprint. I highly recommend this full trip for the entire 6 weeks just in case you have not noticed.

With Peregrine Adventures, ‘anywhere is possible.’ Based in Australia, Peregrine has led small-group, ‘soft’ adventure-style trips worldwide for over 30 years. It was one of the first operators to employ local leaders, a practice that is now widespread in guided travel. What Makes Them Stand Out? While considering itself an adventure travel company, Peregrine promises to “smooth down the bumps and rough edges.” In short, it’s more about soft adventure with added comforts than roughing it. Group sizes are kept small, with no more than 16 travelers per trip. Its philosophy is that while “seeing the famous sites is a must, it’s those memories of wandering through a little village or sharing dinner with a local family that leave a lasting impression.” The small-group aspect allows for more time to absorb the nature of the places visited, and to make a minimal environmental impact on them as well. Who Travels With Them? While Peregrine is a global company, many of its travelers originate from Australia and New Zealand. However, their groups can be geographically diverse, with most travelers 50+ years of age. Where Do They Operate? Peregrine offers a wide variety of exciting global destinations, with 200 trips across 80 countries -- spanning from Egypt to Turkey to Canada trips! The company is perhaps best known for its Himalayan trekking excursions to far-flung destinations including Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. It was a pioneer in high-altitude trekking and these trips remain among their most popular today. How Does it Work? Most travel is by private, air-conditioned minibus, but you might find yourself on a houseboat in Kerala, India, a tuk-tuk in Sri Lanka, or a mountain lift on the best Switzerland tour you've ever experienced. Lodging and dining is at smaller, locally run hotels and restaurants. You might also dine with locals from time to time, and stay with local families or at campsites as well. Why Travel With Them? Peregrine is a good choice if you’re looking for a bit of a softer landing with respect to transportation and accommodations but still crave an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience. If you’re looking for more individual travel, Peregrine will craft independent journeys, arrange self-guided walking and cycling tours, or arrange private group and tailor-made trips. It’s your choice. Peregrine also helps support various community and conservation projects via its ties with the Intrepid Foundation. Tweets by PeregrineSpirit

Fantastic trip. Would definitely recommend

Our tour guide Ingrid was brilliant. She was knowledgable, calm, very well organised and all round lovely! We spent the right amount of time in each place (personally maybe slightly less time in Santiago and more time in Bolivia, but that’s just my choice). Would definitely recommend this trip.

Founded in 1987, Tucan Travel specializes in adventurous, immersive travel experiences. What Makes Tucan Travel Stand Out? They are all about going beyond the resort style of travel for adventure trips that let you experience another side of the country you’re visiting. They offer no pretense either, clearly stating that their style of adventure travel is not for those seeking a chill beach vacation. The four main travel styles you can choose from include Adventure Tours, Overland Tours, Budget Expeditions (specifically geared toward 18-35 year olds), and Add Ons, short side trips. Tour leaders are known as “Adventure Specialists” and will be alongside everyone in your group, encouraging you to to try the fried scorpions. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Tucan Travel? Travelers who gravitate to Tucan will be budget minded and looking for fun, new experiences - and maybe a classic site or two thrown in for good measure. Unlike some of the companies Tucan is commonly compared with, they do not have an age cap, though travelers do tend to be on the younger end. Think young professionals less interested in an ongoing party, but still not quite at the “cultural attractions and museums” stage. Tucan fits comfortably in the middle, offering inexpensive tours with interesting itineraries. For those younger travelers seeking a youthful group, Tucan does have group trips specifically for 18-30 year olds. Most Tucan trips are active, engaging, and exciting, with many local touches. Travelers with Tucan enjoy taking risks and experiencing a destination from the inside out. The price of Tucan tours is designed to be very affordable, however the tours aren’t all inclusive. You’ll be on your own for some meals, and there is a lot of free time available. Also keep in mind Tucan encourages travelers who want, to go off on their own and rejoin the tour later on. Solo travelers are very welcome, and encouraged! Tucan tours are a great way to make new friends, and most tours don’t require a single supplement if you are willing to share with a same-sex roommate. Tucan Travel Style Tucan tours are separated into 3 broad buckets: Worldwide Adventures, Adventures for 20s to 30s, and Tailor Made Travel. Worldwide Adventures with Tucan are tours intended for a wide audience - the age range is from 18-65. Groups are very small, between 4-19 people. Accommodations are in comfortable, locally owned hotels or guest houses. Like all Tucan tours they are budget conscious. Adventures for 20s to 30s are perfect for young adults between 18-39 years old after an adventure. These tours can be super high energy and are typically low cost. Accommodations range from camp sights to 2-3 star budget hotels and hostels. Transportation will include local public transport systems such as public buses and trains or overland vehicles. A note on Overland Travel: Overland tours are a very specific kind of travel, so make sure you know what you’re getting into! These journeys are self sustaining bus rides. Travelers all pitch in at various times to help with cooking, cleaning, and camp setup or breakdown tasks. Prepare for a rustic, outdoorsy venture. It’s a unique way to travel, but certainly not for everybody! Tailor Made Travel is great for those travelers seeking a more customized experience than a pre-set itinerary can provide. Tucan travel experts will design a trip to your specifications and provide a quote. Suggested for families, couples, and small friend groups. Why Choose a Tour with Tucan Travel? Tucan lays on the adventure travel idea pretty think throughout their tour styles. Adventure travel means many things, and Tucan takes a wide view. If you have an adventurous spirit, are one of the first to try the strange street food, volunteer to have the tarantula crawl on you, and love meeting locals these tours will be for you. You’ll meet young, like-minded travelers, and those that are young at heart. Guides are enthusiastic and experienced, ready for anything and ready to make sure your trip fulfills all your expectations. They emphasise the community aspect of group travel and encourage solo travelers to join their groups (and don’t require a single supplement). Independent travelers who are feeling really unsure about a group tour may find exactly what they’re looking for in a Tucan tour. Tucan actively encourages travelers who join their group tours to go off and explore. You can even choose to spend longer on your own and rejoin the Tucan group at the next destination!

Amazing!

We just completed our first bike trip with Butterfield & Robinson riding in the Piemonte area of Italy. It was amazing! The accommodations, food, wine, bikes, guides and routes were great. Each bike had a tablet on it with the days route so you could go at your own pace and stop and take pictures and really enjoy the beautiful scenery. It was a very challenging ride but after the first day I switched from a hybrid to an E bike which absolutely made my trip more enjoyable. B&R is very accommodating to all of your needs and provided the best trip I have ever been on. My husband and I look forward to planning our next trip!

Wonderful

Butterfield and Robinson just planned and executed a great, great trip for us to the Amalfi coast. All the services and hotels were wonderful and the guides were great fun and and well informed. Many nice surprises along the way and an itinerary we would have had trouble putting together on our own was effortless. All guides were well trained the transportation and drivers were polite and on time. The recommended hotels were amazing. We loved every minute of our vacation.

Born in 1966, Butterfield and Robinson specializes in higher end guided and self-guided biking and walking tours to many of the world’s top destinations. What Makes Butterfield & Robinson Stand Out? The seamless combination of luxury minded travel and the active travel style of cycling are what have consistently made Butterfield a household name among affluent 50+ travelers. You can choose your own activity level, whether it’s a ramble through the Burgundy countryside in France or a more strenuous hike along the Inca Trail in Peru. On cycling trips, bikes are customized to fit the riders, and they have a high staff and support vehicle ratio per guest -- making them a top choice for travelers seeking a high-service biking adventure. They offer several tours around the world, small group is their primary offering, though private guided and customizable itineraries are also available. Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Butterfield & Robinson? They offer trips for all ages, but are definitely most popular among older active travelers with a taste for the finer things. If a leisurely 25 mile bike ride through European vineyards, stopping for picnics, going at your own pace, and meeting up with your small group for a nice rustic dinner with a well deserved beer or glass of wine at the end of the day sounds like your perfect vacation, then Butterfield & Robinson is for you. Activity levels vary with the terrain and there are several different activity categories that B&R offers for you to choose from. They’re open to people of all ages -- kids under 18 are eligible to go on special family trips -- and athletic abilities. Ebikes make it easier for even the most basic physical fitness level to travel farther and in more comfort. Of course it’s not a complete ride with no effort - you must pedal, but it is possible to travel on a cycling trip with Butterfield & Robinson without feeling like you’ve entered the Tour de France. Trips with Butterfield & Robinson are not budget by any means, though a range of price options are available in the mid to upper budget category. Top Destinations Over the years, they’ve expanded to more than 100 biking and walking trips around the world, including Bhutan, the Baltics, Jordan and Colombia as well as favorites like Spain, France, and Italy. Wherever you are, you can expect to be showered with refreshments, route maps, and suggestions for interesting places to stop and explore. Butterfield & Robinson Travel Style Most tours with Butterfield & Robinson are easy to moderately paced. Cycling is the primary means of transportation from point a to point b on most trips, with a generous helping of stops to enjoy unique cultural experiences or explore a historical site. Guided bike trips average about 25-30 miles a day (longer for expert level), while walkers average six to ten miles a day. Group sizes are kept small, to allow for travel along all kind of roads, and create the opportunity for a lot of space between riders, allowing you to find your own pace. On most trips you’ll be joined by more than one guide, allowing for very personalized and dedicated attention throughout your cycling experience. Small group sizes also help Butterfield be able to arrange unique accommodations. On a B&R trip, it’s not unusual to find yourself in a renovated castle, chateau or other signature lodging. They are known for cycling, however Butterfield also offers Walking Tours, Family Trips, Boat Trips & Cruises, Safaris, Food & Wine centric tours, and Corporate Holidays. Why Choose a Tour With Butterfield & Robinson? Even for avid hikers and cyclists who choose the more expert options, B&R sees to it that all you’ll have to cope with is that next hill. You never have to carry your own luggage or purchases that you might make along the way -- the support van, which you’re likely to encounter several times a day on your route -- takes care of that. You also have plenty of flexibility in pacing your walk or ride; group members don’t have to stay together -- you can stop at cafes or museums along the way as you see fit. You can even take the afternoon off if you wish. In short, Butterfield is the pinnacle when it comes to well planned, fun, expertly guided, cycling tours with a luxury travel touch.

interesting places in the big city

I booked a 10 day tour with Look At Egypt Tours and it was a great experience. Ahmed (the owner) is very professional and organized. He kept in contact with me throughout the tour. His itineraries are very detailed and filled with interesting facts about all the places visited. Ahmed even called his tour guides on a daily basis to make sure everything was running smoothly. My airport transfer and tour guides were so friendly and helpful. Ali (airport transfer) met me at the airport and made sure I had everything I needed for immigration and hotel checkin. Mostafa (Cairo tour guide) showed some cool and interesting places in the big city. He has quite the sense of humor and we did our fair share of laughing each day on the trip. Aboudy (Nile Cruise tour guide in Luxor/Aswan) educated me on the true history, culture and people of upper/lower Egypt. I really learned a lot from him and enjoyed reading some of his grandfathers published books. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in in visiting Egypt to book a tour with Look At Egypt Tours. My first trip to Egypt was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Ahmed, Ali, Mostafa and Aboudy for all your help and friendship.

Awesome experience.

It's one of the best tours I've done during my travels. Morocco is full of history and culture, what made this tour a great experience for me was our guide Abdul, before we went on the tour I had heard so much about him, he's great full of knowledge and pretty funny I may say. Sleeping under the stars in Sahara desert was amazing, we stayed in a camp for two nights. I've recommended this tour to all my friends and everyone.

These trips are intended primarily for 18-39 year olds, though the “young at heart” are also welcome. However if you are more in the 40+ range, be forewarned that the tour personality will definitely be youthful in tone. In this case “like minded” traveler is pretty age-range specific. In their own words, travelers on their tours “have a desire to get off the beaten track, experience the culture and tradition all while having a little fun.” Single travelers are more than welcome, and provided you don’t mind sharing a room, no single supplement is required (with the occasional exception on sailing tours). However, unlike their commonly compared counterparts, Contiki and Topdeck, Travel Talk presents itself as less of a constant ongoing party and more of a cultural experiences tour. Not to say there is not the occasional night out on the town - only that the more introverted may enjoy Travel Talk more than Contiki or Topdeck. Top Destinations Their specialized tours focus in Europe, though they also operate in Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco.   Travel Talk Style Travel Talks travel style is all about cultural discovery and having a good time. Accommodations are chosen within a variety of comfort levels, and Travel Talk strives to choose where you stay and how as it’s own experience - not just as an afterthought. Travel Talk tours are budget conscious, but depending on the destination, you may experience anything from a 5 star resort to riding aboard a traditional felucca on the Nile.   Why Choose a Tour with Travel Talk? They are committed to providing a real, adventurous, cultural, and above all local experience. Yet they are careful to not force the comfort zone too far. You will receive outstanding service, accommodation, transportation, and attention from your tour guides. Itineraries cover the must see tourist spots as well as hidden gems. It’s the perfect travel experience that won’t break the bank.

I deliberately chose the circle tour but another time would rather day trips from major centres and more time in Reykjavik

As a solo traveller, I appreciated how On the Go Tours was able to quickly match me with another solo traveller in order to reduce costs. The Trip Notes and Pre-Departure Information for Reykjavik were detailed and helpful. The Icelandair Hotels were comfortable and provided excellent breakfasts. I did not particularly like how the Akureyri hotel had very little bathroom privacy as there were no doors for the shower and only a sliding glass door for the toilet (slightly problematic if you are sharing with someone with whom you are not familiar).

Our guide, Eva, provided us with a lot of information about each site we visited. I really liked how she prepped us for each site prior to visiting it and then gave us the freedom to explore each place on our own. She provided us with a suitable amount of time at each site and gave clear timelines for our day. She also accommodated our requests and was patient with each member of the tour. I recommend that tour guides have a meet and greet or introductory session on the first day (i.e., something as simple as have each person on the tour introduce themselves with their name, home country, and reason for visiting Iceland) as it took several days to fully "break the ice" with some of our tour companions. Everyone, however, was friendly and welcoming on our tour. I had a truly memorable experience and highly recommend this tour to anyone who can afford it! I hope to take another On the Go Tour in the future!

Note: My tour rating is a 4.5 (there was no option for .5).

As an additional, unrelated suggestion, is it possible for On the Go Tours to provide tours to Australia, New Zealand, and possibly Tasmania? My next tour destination would be these countries, and I noted, sadly, that your company does not offer tours to these destinations.

Excellent trip - great group (aged 37-60, 50:50 male:female) and excellent guide
The icebergs floating on the lake and the sea, with the clear blue sky behind.
White Russian Cocktails in Bar Lebowski's, Reykjavik.
I was surprised at how barren then landscape is - it's worth seeing.
We did see the Northern lights (not the best but they were there). At Hotel Laki you can book a wake-up call if they appear!

Ingibjorg (Ibi) was excellent. She is also a Ranger at the national park so very knowledgeable and she led us on the Glacier and in the Caves.
She even provided hot flasks of drinks and snacks in the bus to help with the biting cold wind!

Be prepared for the biting wind - take warm layers - thermal leggings, a balaclava, ski gloves. Waterproofs (jacket & trousers) are a must to keep out the wind and also you walk behind one of the waterfalls.
Take walking boots for the crampons on the Glacier and also to keep out the cold.
Book an extra day to see Reykjavik - there are free local walking tours - it's easy to get around and not very big but worth the effort.

Compared to some other travel companies this trip may look expensive, but everything except 2 dinners is included. Admission to places and food is very expensive (c£20-£25 for a main meal), so when comparing make sure you add in everything.

I thought the trip gave a good overview of the main highlights of Iceland. May preference would have been for the trip to be at least 2-3 nights longer, I personally spent an additional 3 nights in Reykjavik and there is plenty to do. The trip was busy, quite long travelling days, packing in lots of sightseeing across a very diverse landscape.

Choosing an Iceland Tour Company

When choosing your Iceland tour company, consider that most Iceland tours have an active focus, and a majority of activities will be outside.

Very few Iceland tour companies fall in the “luxury” range, however it is very possible to see Iceland in comfort. Seniors interested in visiting the land of Fire and Ice, but perhaps wary of it’s adventure travel reputation, can find several suitable Iceland tours for seniors. These will focus on less walking, hardcore hiking, and feature less extreme activities. You may also spend more time exploring local towns than other Iceland tours.

Envision soaking in hot springs, walking through other worldly ice caves, gazing at the spectacular northern lights, going on a birding tour to capture a shot of the elusive puffin, meeting the famous Icelandic horses, and enjoying a glass of wine as you overlook the thundering waters of Iceland’s amazing waterfalls.

If your speed is more adventure focused, worry not. There are plenty of Iceland tour operators suited to you! Hike on lava fields, strap on some ice shoes and climb a glacier, and off-roading to explore Iceland’s dramatic landscapes.

Because Iceland has grown massively in popularity in recent years, overtourism has been a hot button issue - particularly considering the many fragile ecosystems the country has. There are a number of Iceland specific operators, as well as global operators that feature tours to Iceland - and traveling with a tour is one way to help reduce the carbon footprint phenomenon.
