Bottom line is that we had a wonderful time, guides and accommodations were excellent and we were impressed that your local tour operator, had our backs.

All of our interactions with Toni and Jen were totally professional. Your rapid responses were appreciated, since we were working on a relatively abbreviated time l...

Irrawaddy River Tour Selection Trips

  • A number of river cruise lines now operate on the Irrawaddy, including Viking River Cruises, Pandaw River Expeditions, CroisiEurope, Belmond, Uniworld, Avalon, and AmaWaterways.
  • Irrawaddy River cruises may take anywhere from four days to two weeks, depending on the itinerary.
  • Many cruise packages include sightseeing in Bagan, Yangon and Mandalay, increasing length to a week or more.
  • You can choose one-way or roundtrip cruises.
  • Usual embarkation or disembarkation points are Yangon in the south and Bagan and Mandalay to the north, but some cruises start or end farther north in Burma.
  • You can also add on cruises along Burma’s Chindwin River, the Irrawaddy’s largest tributary and home to more jungles, gorges, and rural villages.
  • Be sure to pack modest clothing that covers the shoulders and legs to enter Buddhist temples. In general, pack loose-fitting long pants and/or skirts for women, instead of shorts. Pick thin fabrics to stay cool.
  • When it’s winter in North America and Europe, it’s monsoon season in Burma. That means rain, but also somewhat cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.
  • Dry season brings more heat, more visitors, and higher water levels (from snow melt in the Himalayas) that may result in longer portions of navigable river.
