Classic Italy Itineraries

Italy in 7-10 Days

If you only have one week in Italy, you will have time to see the “big three,” that is Venice, Florence, and Rome. Each is distinct and will provide a wonderful glimpse into the country. A word of warning though: once you’re there, you will not want to come back!

Day 1-3, Rome & Vatican City: Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Forum, Sistine Chapel, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain

Day 4-5, Florence: Shop along the Ponte Vecchio, see incredible works of art at the Uffizi, the Pitti Palace and The Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze, visit the Duomo and other churches.

Day 6-7, Venice: Gondola rides, Piazza San Marco, walk over picturesque bridges for spectacular photo ops, and explore shops full of intricate Venetian masks.

Culinary & Wine Tour of Italy

If there's one thing Italy is known for, it's food! A culinary tour of the country will showcase their signature dishes, and the traditional way to make them. And a food tour would be nothing without a visit to some of the country’s premier wineries where you'll get a taste of classic old world wines.

Day 1-2, Rome: Enjoy your introduction to Italy in Rome, enjoying classic Italian fare at hole in the wall restaurants. Eat dessert al fresco as you taste delicious gelato while lounging on the Spanish Steps.

Day 3-6, Bologna: Learn how to make a traditional Bolognese sauce, and visit where true Parmesan Reggiano is made.

Day 7-10, Tuscany: The rustic charm of Tuscany will be revealed as you walk in fresh gardens, drink delicious wines, learn to make homemade pasta, and picnic in vineyards.

Puglia and Matera Magnifica Tour

Beppe Salerno was my guide on a cycling trip through Puglia in Southeastern Italy.

Although I had cycled for many years and ridden in Italy before this was the first commercial trip I had ever taken. Riding with Beppe was central to the unique experience provided by this trip.

Beppe provided unique insights into Italian life and culture as well as useful commentary on cycling routes and styles. His knowledge of Italian wines and cuisine transformed the trip from simply a “ride on a bicycle” to a gastronomic adventure. He introduced me to new wines, new dishes and to the people who grew, bottled and prepared them. We discussed history, dialects, regionalisms, music and architecture.

Beppe's skills are many. Paramount among them, in my opinion, is his ability to motivate people of diverse backgrounds and with widely divergent interests into a cohesive, collaborative group enjoying the company of others while reveling in the delights of a shared ride.

Visiting in Umbria and my husband found this tour. November 2016

Umbria’s Green Valley: A Cycle Tour Through The Valle Umbra

We were visiting in Umbria and my husband found this tour. As it turned out, there were just four of us, so it was a nice small group. I'm not sure if her name was Michelle, but she was a terrific guide, married with kids and her husband is in the business too. Anyway, she was so knowledgeable and passionate about her city. Obviously very well educated about the history of the sites we saw. We've taken a number of tours all over the world and she ranked up at the top. It was easy to meet up. It was a hike and you end up at the other end of the city, away from where we met. But we had a delightful lunch mid-way back so it was not so bad. You do finish up near 1:30 so we had to hustle to get to lunch on time. I would not hesitate to recommend this guide and this tour. We would have missed out on so much if we had wandered around by ourselves. Read more

The Italy - Amalfi Coast Untour

We loved the beautiful surroundings, our location, the beach!, Loved being in a smaller village rather than in one of the more populated tourist locations on the coast. All of the good print information we got at orientation around activities and tours. I neglected so say how helpful Andi was during the 6 months prior to our trip. We emailed on a regular basis and she was always prompt in getting back to me and cut our planning time down considerably. So helpful! Read more
