Cape Town to Victoria Falls - Camping

Having read most (if not all) of the previous reviews I was very glad that I did as most things that would be encountered on this trip were covered by those that went before so I would advise anyone thinking of this trip to take a few minutes to read the many previous reviews.
However, I hope my list (below) of tips to those that follow will be of some help.
Sunrise on the Namibian sandunes and the hour or so after dusk at the many waterholes.

1. Most "multi-plugs" and travel adaptors do not fit the South African socket (large 3 pin round) so whilst they are easy to buy whilst you're there if you want to take one with you make sure you get one that fits!
2. The camping matresses supplied are really very good (not the thin horrid solid foam type I was expecting) so dragging my own thermarest was a complete waste of time.
3. Sink plug - There were no plugs in any of the campsite sinks. Take one (and a spare!)
4. Wherever you camp (especially where more than one night) remember to put your sleeping bag into it's "stuffbag" every morning. This will reduce the amount of dust and sand that gets into it, as well as help to reduce the chances of any insects getting in ahead of you!-)
5. Most of the "big spending" comes at Vic Falls (USD is best here) so don't convert too much Rand into either Zambian or Botswana currency as the re-convert rate at Vic Falls is really poor.
6. WiFi is very patchy outside of Cape Town etc but where it is available (at a small fee) the local custom is they like to type the password into each device for you (rather than give it to you on a piece of paper). This is no problem but just mentioning it here "so you know..."

Forget any preconceptions about camping as the only time you spend in the tent will be "sleeping" as there's so much else to do... Enjoy

CAPE TOWN TO VICTORIA FALLS August 2016

Cape Town to Victoria Falls - Camping

Having planned this trip for 10 years, I had high expectations of what Southern Africa had to offer; this trip blew those expectations out of the water. Any concerns about camping & amenities were soon forgotten and the 3 weeks were filled with comfortable travelling, beautiful vibrant colours and tranquillity.
There are so many highlights to this trip - but getting up before dawn to climb dune 45 was something I'd dreamed of doing and will remember always - witnessing the changing colours as the sun rises and the sudden increase in temperature was phenomenal, but my favourite memory is the few stolen moments when I was the last one on the dune rim and it was so quiet. A truly fantastic morning.

Emma and Alfred were great. They spent time getting to know us and going above and beyond to ensure we were happy and comfortable. Alfred is a great cook & provided a varied and tasty menu for the vegetarian member of our group. Both were informative and insightful about the places we visited and the animals and plants we saw.

When they say pack and then take half out, do it! I travelled with 18kg and brought half of it home unworn.
While you need a relatively small amount of money while on the trip, consider extra trips and don't scrimp. For me this was the trip of a lifetime & the added extras - sand boarding, Vic falls by helicopter & sunset cruise at end really made this an unforgettable experience.

I can't think of any criticism - our guides were fantastic and we were lucky to have a nice group of travellers who all got along. We were well fed and saw/did everything covered in the trip notes and more.
I take memories from this trip that aren't advertised in the brochure - elephants at night along the dry river bed next to camp, giraffes (my favourite) as soon as we entered Etosha, building a human pyramid with new friends and watching Alfred learn to pole dance.
This was the first time I had travelled with Exodus. I chose an arranged trip like this as I am not very confident to 'go with the flow' whilst abroad. Booking couldn't have been easier and flights were well timed. Hotel accommodation was basic but adequate and camping was a great experience. The tour bus was spacious and comfortable (important as some days spend 8 hrs on it). Compared to other similar operators good value for money as very little additional spending money was needed.

CAPE TOWN TO VICTORIA FALLS August 2016

Cape Town to Victoria Falls - Camping

A stunning itinerary with bags of variety and breathtaking locations. The mix of people is crucial and it helps to have a sense of adventure and a sense of humour, too!
Where do you start?
The dunes at sunrise, perhaps or the amazing nightime scenes round the waterhole.
What about the leopard that ignored us from a few feet away as he went about his business...?
Getting drenched through and through whilst photographing the rainbow over Vic Falls with a bunch of like minded friends must rate pretty highly!
The clear night sky with a million stars....
Take your pick.

Ronnie was very helpful and well organised. We could probably have done with some more local information as we went along but he was very forthcoming when asked anything.

Take along your sense of adventure attached firmly to your sense of humour and be prepared to adapt!
Go with a ready-primed sense of wonder and you cannot be disappointed.
It also helps to accept that the journey IS the adventure.

Do it!

CAPE TOWN TO VICTORIA FALLS August 2016

Cape Town to Victoria Falls - Camping

This was the first group holiday I'd been on and I was a little apprehensive but I have only had good things to say about it since I've been back. The activities are well organised and there is a good variety, so should be something for everyone.
I've been asked this a number of times since I came home and found it hard to answer - you have so many varied experiences during the 3 weeks but I do always come back to Victoria Falls, particularly flying over them and through the gorge in a helicopter - you really can't get a feel for the sheer size of the falls when you are walking around them.

Couldn't have asked for better guides than Emma and Alfred. They were full of knowledge about the countries we visited and did everything they could to make sure we were all looked after. They were also great cooks - making sure we had a good variety of food.

Be prepared for some long days driving but searching for animals during those days will keep you busy and distracted!

Just go for it! :-)

Cape Town to Victoria Falls - Lodge departure

The tour would have warranted excellent if it wasn't for some of the accommodation being of a poor standard when there was better available.
Being in Africa was sufficient but with the animals and the helicopter flight over the Falls this topped it off.
Ken and Lynn were excellent.
Insist on a list of accommodation when booking so you are not left disappointed as our group were.
