What travelers are saying

"This trip is unbelievably fantastic. Two of the best rides of my life, were on this tour. The guides were very good and this was just the start, when we met them, at the hotel in Cortina. Cortina was the site of the 1956 Olympics, and is a small pretty village. Nothing was open the two nights we were there, so probably bad timing. Hotel was a typical ski village hotel, good Italian/German food, and very comfortable. Second day of biking was up an old railroad spur that is now a ski trail about 15-20 K up to a mountain pass called Cimabanche Pass, which is beautiful. We rode up in a snow storm, then rain, then finally clear skies. This was the number two best ride of my life. Starting out from the hotel in Cortina, up the old spur, through single track bike trails, past babbling brooks, up to this fabulous mountain pass. This is now where the fun starts. Mostly downhill on paved roads very little traffic, at good speeds, through the most spectacular valleys you would ever see on a bike ride. Breathtaking. It had to end back at the hotel for a big dinner. The best ride of my life was the last biking day out of Merano. We were bused up 1500 K, about 85-90 miles to Lake Resia, high up in the Dolomites, then rode around the lake, down, back to Merano. High mountain peaks, many valleys, small towns, many grape growing farms, scenery, the best, and cool brisk weather. This was truly a great bike tour, one I will never forget. The trip is rated easy, but maybe easy/moderate is closer. The Hotel in Merano is excellent, middle of old town, modern, has a thermal bath, rooms were very good. The town of Merano is a must see if in the area, small, beneath the high mountains of the Dolomites, good restaurants, lots of tourists."

What travelers are saying

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

Luxembourg Tour Selection Trips

  • Seek a Luxembourg tour that falls between May and August for the sunniest, driest weather. Bring warm clothes because even summer evenings can get cold.

Don’t get confused when you hear three different languages being spoken - French, German and Luxembourgish. After all, it’s not every day you visit a true trilingual country.

While you can do a fair amount of trekking on the country’s many forested trails, there are no real mountains here - in fact, the highest point doesn’t even reach 2,000 feet.

This is a decidedly rural country apart from Luxembourg City.

Although it’s one of the safest countries in the world, Luxembourg tour travelers should always be aware of purse snatching and pickpocketing.

Have time for just one really cool thing in Luxembourg City? Make it the Bock Casements, a series of tunnels built in medieval times to harbor soldiers.

Love wine? Make your way to the Moselle River region near Remich for incredible wine-tasting opportunities. Make sure to try the famous Luxembourgish pinot.

Most tourist attractions close at 6 PM, even in the long daylight hours of summer. Plan your Luxembourg tour stops accordingly to avoid disappointment.

Pop in to a supermarket for an incredible selection of local and immigrant-inspired specialities, including Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Indian and Chinese.

As a founding member of the Eurozone, Luxembourg uses the Euro as currency.

The ATM network is developed and available just about everywhere, including the smallest villages. Debit cards are almost universally accepted, but credit cards may not be accepted at some of the smaller businesses.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

Europe put a travel ban on the United States as of July 1. This means that Luxembourg has opened its borders to international travelers but US travelers are not currently included.

Travel to Luxembourg: quick facts

  1. May to August are the warmest time to visit Luxembourg. Other months, bring layers and raincoats and umbrellas. Summer evenings can be quite cool.
  2. Luxembourg is a true melting pot, with almost half of its 600,000 inhabitants being immigrants - mainly from Germany, France, Belgium, Portugal and Italy.
  3. This is the smallest country bordered by three countries: France, Germany and Belgium.
  4. Luxembourg is the only grand duchy in the world, headed by a grand duke instead of a king.
  5. Luxembourg consistently ranks as one of the wealthiest and most developed countries in the world.
  6. There are three official languages here: French, German and Luxembourgish - most residents speak all three!
  7. The common greeting with a Luxembourger is three kisses (not just two as in many other European countries).
  8. The country ranks as incredibly safe, very clean and takes its recycling very seriously.

Common Luxembourg Tour Lengths

Whether you have a full day or a full week, a Luxembourg tour can easily hit the highlights. Those passing through for a day may choose to center their stay on Luxembourg City, the engaging capital with its MuseumSmile, fantastic art offerings and renowned architecture.

Travelers with anywhere from four to seven days will have ample time to explore the country in depth, from the charming villages and old farm houses of Guttland to the nature parks of the Ardennes, from hilly Mullerthal to the romantic wine towns of the Moselle River valley.

What’s the Weather Like in Luxembourg?

Temperatures do vary quite a bit throughout the year in Luxembourg, but if you’re looking for the hottest months, time your Luxembourg tour for July, August or June (in order of warmth). Generally, it can feel cool for about half the year with a good chance or rain or snow the rest of the year. Your best bet? Dress in layers, and be flexible!
