Best Things to Do in Manaus

The time in the Pantanal was amazing. Did the day trip to see the jaguars which was a long day, but worth it. Lots of animals around the lodge too. If you are lucky, you will see a jaguar on one of the jeep safaris from the lodge.
When we arrived in the Amazon, there had been fires for a month already. The birds had stopped singing and there were no mammals to be seen. This seriously impacted on my enjoyment of this part of the trip, which is a shame as I was really looking forward to it. The smoke was much worse when we left than when we arrived.
The waterfalls were absolutely stunning. Our whole group did them from Brazil and Argentina. Most of us did the helicopter ride over them too, as this was the only way to really see all of them.
Hotel was well situated in Rio, very close to Copacabana beach. Due to unseasonal weather we couldn’t go to Christ the Redeemer statue as the cloud was so low you just couldn’t see see it, although we did manage a glimpse from Sugar Loaf.
The trip is full on with little down time- only really in the Pantanal. All the flights had connections so including getting there we did 12 flights over the 14 days.
Our group were lovely individually, but there were some personality clashes which did impacted on the whole group at times.
Our guide Blanca, did an amazing job with this. She was really knowledgeable about the wildlife we saw and managed to get 14 of us all at the right gates and on the right flights. There were some very long days travelling.
Overall, this is a great holiday. It covers all the main bits you want to see in Brazil, but be prepared for long days, late arrivals and early starts.
