"I have been to Tanzania one other time so I am confident in saying that based on my two experiences, Lights on Africa by FAR EXCEEDED my known expectations. Just WOW, from the minute I arrived to the minute I left, well I did not want to leave. Peniel greeted my Group and made us feel so welcomed. The accommodations were SO fantastic, including the food :) but I must say that my Driver; Ray made my trip incredibly memorable. His many years of working in tourism contributed to the wealth of knowledge Ray has for the hidden trails in each park! Not just main roads but what tree is known for lions. Where the likelihood of seeing a Cheetah and where to find them! Ray knows the terrain of each park, has fantastic knowledge of ALL the animals including birds. We were the same 6 people in his Jeep the entire time, we asked a LOT of questions. Every one was answered thoughtfully, and gave us a sense of 'all knowing' and his mechanical ability!!!!! The terrain is oftentimes deep mud, sandy, water, very rugged and touch but Ray knew which way to steer and how to mitigate our ride, not to mention being the AWESOME DRIVER he is, he always (ALWAYS) stopped to help pull another driver out. I cannot say enough kind words or express gratitude to everyone at Lights on Africa, I felt like I was leaving family when the last wave was waved. I can only look forward to a third time to your beautiful country and know who I will be using; LIGHTS ON AFRICA. Thank you, thank you, thank you Kate"

"We booked a National Geographic expedition Holland and Belgium by River. The promotional literature promised a 14-day deposit refund window. The “invoice” was marked “non-refundable” deposit. We completed the National Geographic Traveler Information. About 8 days later we received the “Travel Agreement” to be signed. We both approved and signed the National Geographic documents. A Cruise Line Travel agreement was enclosed but had no signature line. This document contained language which was unacceptable. We submitted the signed NatGeo documents. The following day we canceled the trip due to the unacceptable Cruise Line language. Cancellation was made 12 days after booking and no deposit was returned. We were told on the phone that the refund deadline was triggered by the 14 day window OR signatures on the Travel Agreement which ever came first. This was NEW information. To date, we have received NO refund of our $1000. We cancelled our trip within the advertised 14 day window."

"We just got back from our 11 day Safari trip ALL PLANNED by Rothschild! We were celebrating my 50th birthday and I’ve always wanted to go on a safari. I researched many companies and after speaking many times with Pam Langhoff we decided upon choosing Rothschild to put together our safari trip. Best decision!!! Rothschild made all the arrangements and thought of every detail. I really had no clue about planning a safari. Pam planned everything! Every time someone was there to pick us up or take us to our next destination or see us off. Our guide and safari truck was arranged for us. All the park fees and registrations were already paid for and all the accommodations were booked and paid for and all details explained. Everything was timely and we had full communication with a contact in Africa (because of the time change 8 hours ahead if we needed anything). We even had them book our flights. They do everything and think of everything we had no idea we had to apply for a Tanzania visa.. This company is first class and takes care of every detail. We had no idea about planning and where to go. Pam put together an awesome tailored itinerary for us. We stayed 2 nights in Tarangire National Park in really really cool nice tents, then 3 nights at Gibbs Farm in the Ngorongoro Highlands and went to the crater, then flew to the Serengeti and stayed 3 nights at Serengeti Safari camp in mobile tents!! What an experience! We saw the great migration! I woke up in the Serengeti on my 50th birthday! Pam and Rachel and all the Rothschild staff were easy to work with and ask questions (trust me I had many) they planned a magical trip for my husband and 2 teenagers!! We all agree this was our favorite trip we have ever been on! We will use Rothschild again for sure!"

"We did a seven day Kilimanjaro climb on Machame Route and a four day safari to Serengeti, Ngorogoro Crater and Tarangire. Eco-Africa took care of all the details. The climbing guides and Kili fighters (porters) were so kind, helpful and motivating. We are vegan and the food they provided was incredible. I didn’t need any of the “just in case” food I packed for myself. The safari guides were also kind, funny, engaging and very knowledgeable. We saw so many animals and birds. "We spent two wonderful weeks touring several of the best destinations in Portugal & Spain with a group of 16 people. Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

"We were looking for a holiday in September in Tanzania which included a safari, but we also wanted to see more of the country and the people. After checking a few options, we found a program offered by Zama Tours & Safaris which covered game viewing as well as culture, this Bush & People package. The communication with Martina was great and everything was well organized. The safari car as in good condition and Amani, our guide was experienced and very fun to travel with. We saw lots of animals and stayed in nice lodges and tented camps. The visits to the Maasai and Hadza were really interesting and made the trip complete. Afterwards we went to Zanzibar for a few days of relax. Such an exotic place to be! Zama Tours did a great job and I can highly recommend them."

Mt. Kilimanjaro Tour Selection Trips

Choose a Mount Kilimanjaro tour that matches your conditioning level. Seven main ways snake to the top, and they vary significantly in difficulty and the overall experience.
Keep in mind that the longer the trip up, the more time your body has to adjust to the altitude, which makes it less likely you will suffer from altitude sickness.
The five-day Marangu Route is the shortest and easiest, but is also more crowded.
Diehards should look for tours offering the tougher, yet more scenic, Machame Route (six to seven days).
If you’re concerned about your ability to reach the summit because of age, keep in mind that fitness level and determination are the most important factors.
Only about 40 percent of those who set out actually reach the summit. Many decide not to try the final, icy ascent, but still have a wonderful experience.
Tour accommodations range from tents to mountain huts to view lodges. Choose an accommodation level that meets your comfort level and budget.
Some local, independent tour operators are very reliable and can offer a better value, so those on a tighter budget may want to check out these options.
Not all tours include park fees and food in their prices, so check the trip details carefully.
Groups vary in size and guide-to-traveler ratio, so search for what you feel comfortable with.
