Travel Style Travel Style Relaxed A lot of free time, with very few inclusions. Ideal for independent and/or low-key travelers and cruisers.
Full on For those looking to maximize their sight seeing time. You thrive on a packed day’s schedule from 8 am to 6pm, with some (but limited) free time. Most activities and meals included.
Mixed You will have solid amounts of both free time and structured time with some activities and meals included.

Trip Type Trip Type Group Tour Groups are between 25-60 people, typically ~30-40. Usually there will be many opportunities to split off and enjoy meals and excursions in smaller groups. This is the most economical way to travel, saving up to 40% versus booking the same itinerary yourself.
Small Group Tour Small groups are usually defined as between 10 and 24 travelers, often less. If you're the kind of person who enjoys more intimate experiences and personal service this is a good choice. All else being equal you will pay a premium for this style vs a larger group tour.
River Cruise These vessels are smaller than most ocean cruisers, limiting which amenties are available. Passenger counts can vary. One of the biggest advantages of a river cruise is the ability to dock at smaller ports and local villages.
Small Ship Cruise Small ship cruises usually have a max passenger count of 500. The primary purpose of these trips is to spend time off the vessel in local ports (e.g. Mediterranean) or experiencing nature (e.g Galapagos or Antarctica). Cabins can vary from budget to luxury.
Private Guided Private tours give you the undivided attention of a guide, and often involve special access to sites and unique experiences not available to larger groups. This is a great option for families, couples, and small friend groups. Expect to pay a bit more for the extra service.
Self Guided / Independent Tour A travel company plans your itinerary and arranges all the logistics including lodging, local activities, and transportantion. You have the flexibility of a solo trip while still getting the convience and time savings of expert planning. Get 90% of the benefits of a tour, without a guide.
Vacation / Holiday Package Similar to a self guided tour, this usually involves a home base, such as a hotel or resort, with packaged activities and day tours as a part of the stay.
Large Ship Cruise This is the "floating city" experience, with multiple ways to enjoy your vacation aboard the ship as much as on land. Ships are multiple floors, provide several activities, culinary, and shopping options. They often make fewer stops and have less time available for shore excursions.

Itinerary Focus

Lodging Level Lodging Level Camping Typically involves most nights sleeping in tents (sometimes permanent tented sites) or in rustic cabins and lodges.

Value - 3 star Mid-range budget with accommodations ranging from comfortable lodges, guesthouses, and homestays to three star hotels.
Premium - 4 star 3 to 4 star western hotel equivalents. While not all lodging will be 'luxury' they will be quite comfortable by western standards.

I am just back from a great trip at the Flow Edge camp near Bylot Island with Arctic Kingdom. I would like to immensely thank all the Arctic Kingdom team who made my stay exceptional. In particular David Briggs and Jason Hiller our expedition leaders, Scott the camp manager, Sheatie and Billy the Inuit elders, who shared for my camera their Inuit wisdom and knowledge, many thanks to their great team: the chefs, the guides, the camp staff.

"We recently booked an extensive two week trip of Argentina and Chile through Across South America We approached the company by email (in English) from Australia and advised them what our interests and budget were.
They then came up with a wonderful itinerary which covered our interests perfectly. They chose excellent hotels and scheduled internal flights and airport pick-ups, etc perfectly. Everything ran like clockwork.
We paid from Australia using the companies secure payment providers. We had no issues at all with the payments.
We were given a contact within the company who kept in touch with us (using WhatsApp) while we travelled. Our contact was always happy to answer our questions (which were sometimes asked outside of normal working hours).
We can strongly recommend Across Argentina as a secure and highly experienced travel agency. You will not be disappointed if you use them.

I planned a last minute trip to Scandinavia, the date chosen was already sold out, but they offered us the one from Sept 3rd to Sept 12th, and we went. Best experience ever with a tour company! I had my doubts since I hadn't heard of Firebird Tours before, and I was a little uneasy until before arriving to Copenhagen, as soon as I saw our driver waiting for us there and helping us with our Copenhagen Card before taking us to our hotel, I started to enjoy the trip. Everything went beyond our expectations (excepting the weather, it rained all the time we where in Norway), wonderful hotels (kind of funky, but fun, the one in Stockholm. The tour guides were the best, and having an small group made everything easier. Next year we will for sure do another trip, I like the independent travel and this one was perfect for us, we were free to visit the places we wanted without worrying about transport and lodging. Thank you Firebird! Thank you Kate for replying my emails almost instantly when I had questions.

They were very punctual and the guides were accommodating and informative. The service exceeded our expectations. The hotels were wonderful and the staff great. All forms of transportation were perfect and all were very polite. In Peru, my stay in in the Amazon lodge was a once in a lifetime experience - staying in the heart of the jungle and being at one with nature was an amazing feeling. The staff there were very attentive and friendly. The lake Titicaca tour in Puno was also a lot of fun - especially visiting the floating islands and learning about its nature and history was very interesting!

An Overland Journey is a very specific type of travel, which originated in Australia. It usually involves traveling for an extended period of time, as well as a distinct focus on travelers involvement with all facets of the trip. On any given day you may be helping cook meals, clean up, or organize an activity. This type of travel is not for everyone - most trips include long stretches over rough, bumpy terrain, and the term “roughing it” definitely applies to the experience. But the community aspect attracts open minded, fun, people and you’re sure to make lasting friends.
