1. Machu Picchu - Inca Trail

On the top of almost every traveler’s bucket list is Machu Picchu. Travel back in time as you explore the spectacular Incan citadel. Become enthralled by the beauty of the deep sapphire waters of Lake Titicaca, which was believed to be the birthplace of the sun. Spend a night on a floating island, discover lost coves, and end each day watching the sunset engulf the lake’s gleaming waters.

3. Cusco

Architechture in Cusco Peru

This city, which was once the capital of the Incan empire, is immersed in ancient heritage and culture. Incan temples that line the boulevards are a testament to the regions deep-roots, while Cusco’s looming cathedrals exhibit the legacy of Spanish occupation. With an altitude of more than 11,000ft., there’s nothing quite like this city in the sky.

4. Lima

The sprawling metropolis of Lima is a wonderful matrimony of heritage and modernisation. The high-rise buildings loom over ancient temples and cathedrals. Explore more of Peru’s rich cultural history at one of Lima’s many museums, like Museo Larco, or Museo de Arte de Lima.

When you’re in Lima, indulge in the colorful food scene — the city is known as the gastronomical capital of Latin America, and boasts two restaurants that are ranked in the top 10 restaurants in the world.

5. The Amazon Basin

There are so many ways to explore the Amazon. During high water season (December-May), navigate the vast network of the Amazon River and go wildlife spotting. During lower tide (June-November), your best method of travel is by foot — trek the Amazon rainforest, which is known for its impressive biodiversity.

6. Colca Canyon

While Peru is home to beautiful coasts and beaches, Mancora is known for its surf, seafood, and year-round sun. Dive into the chronically warm waters, and relax on the white sandy beaches at Peru’s best beach town.

8. The Nazca Lines

Nazca lines in Peru

On the south coasts on Peru lies a curiosity that has baffled historians for decades. The Nazca lines consist of more than a thousand glyphs etched onto the arid ground. They are accompanied by ancient glyphs of animals, which are so large that they can only be seen from the air! Hop onto a plane to witness this attraction that has baffled historians and tourists alike!

9. Ayacucho

Peru In Depth and the Inca Trail
This trip 'Peru In depth and the Inca trail' was the perfect length of time to spend after a long haul flight. It also meant that we were properly acclimatised by the time we began the trekking. Highlights of the trip were:- entering the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu and seeing the sun temple gradually revealed through the clouds, the mighty condors in the Colca canyon, the Nasca lines in the desert, walking in the Pacific Ocean with the desert around us. The expertise of the guides and our trekking leader Darwin who was calm and kind at all times, the camaraderie of the group, camping high up in the Andes with llamas wandering around and the starry sky with no light pollution......... or internet, maybe that would put you off, if so this is not for you!

Walking Turkeys Turquoise Coast
The Turquoise coast is a beautiful area. Walks were graded moderate and were at times rocky and very uneven. Difficult to enjoy the scenery when you have to watch your feet all the time! Phellos Hotel is old and tired and needs updating. Staff were friendly but facilities were poor. I really enjoyed the town of Kas which was pretty with a good range of shops and restaurants. We saw the surrounding areas on our bus journeys to the start of some walks. Loved the trip and really enjoyed the walks but the hotel kind of let it down. Our explore leader was excellent, friendly and approachable and good at judging the pace for our small group.

Walking Turkeys Turquoise Coast
Really beautiful area, two very friendly and helpful guides, the third just spouted information rather than look after us. Our group ranged from sixties to 81!
Lovely short walks, although a bit stony for some of us, and a lot of uphill and downhill.
Hotel bedroom spacious, with balcony overlooking the swimming pool and sea.
We would have preferred a double bed rather than two single beds, and the mattresses were very hard. We hardly ever had hot water because our bedroom was at the end of the corridor, but the other guests did have hot water.
Adequate breakfast.
One of my favourite holidays, partly due perhaps to the hotel being very quiet at night, so very relaxing.

Peru In Depth and the Inca Trail
What a wonderful way to see Peru! This was a long but such as varied and exciting trip. We started the trip in Lima (a busy and bustling city with lots to see) and the first third of the trip made our way along the coast with unique Martian views at Paracas national park and bountiful wildlife at Las Ballestas Island. Arequipa, Puno and the Colca Valley provided a beautiful way to acclimatise to the higher altitude. Lake Titicaca was definitely a highlight - such a unique way of life. This part of our trip allowed to learn about the history of Peru through its customs, architecture and landscape.

Finally the Inca Trek was the pinnacle of the trip. A once in a lifetime opportunity and definitely a challenging but rewarding opportunity. Special Thank you to the team of porters, who made this possible. Chef Julian and Mario provided such delicious food that fuelled us to the end! Thank you too to all the guides and drivers that got us from place to place and gave us a great introduction to each region. Thank you above all else to our tour leader Darwin who not only managed the group from start to end and made sure we got to all our activities and locations but also provided entertainment and friendship along the way!

Overall our trip was filled with otherworldly views and scenery, unique culture, rich history, amazing pisco sours and even better people!

Peru In Depth and the Inca Trail
A very full and comprehensive trip with an array of interesting guides contributing their local knowledge along the way, and a nice small friendly group of people. The trip is very well planned to acclimatise and prepare participants for the highlight Inca (trekking/camping) Trail at the end which was tremendous - and excellently lead and presented by explore leader Darwin. Other highlight for me was the stay on tranquil and remote Taquile Island on lake Titicaca ( where my phone registered Bolivian time!). In order to explore the depth and breadth of the country, the trip does include some long stretches by bus. There are not many group evening meals which might not suit every solo traveler. In the itinerary notes, the option to climb Machu Picchu mountain is a little bit incidental and does need to be pre-booked so it would be good if that was made more aware to people at time of booking the Inca Trail pass. Otherwise a wonderful and recommendable trip.
