I travel often and value reviews like this as I make decisions on excursions and hotels. I don't normally write this detail but I felt I had to share my experience. First off, once I finally did the numbers, it didn't add up. My wife and I paid over 3000 for this. Had I booked what they provided on my own it would have only cost 1500. So here is the review:
Dubai. They put you at the Ramada Jumeira. Not bad but not great. You can book this hotel for 100 a night. I was suppose to have a Dubai City Tour that included going to the top of Burj Khalifa and admission to the aquarium. The tour was TERRIBLE. The guide was TERRIBLE. It didn't include the Burj Khalifa or the aquarium. When I asked about it, the guide said he'd drop me off but I had to find my own way home. So Look at Egypt Tours only booked this for Dubai.
On my own, I booked Burj Khalifa and aquarium. Both were amazing. I also book at marina tour with Yellow Boats. Also awesome. I finally book a 4x4 Desert Safari. This ended up being the highlight of my trip. Again, what I booked was great. What the tour company booked was terrible.
Eqypt. They put you up at the Ramses Hilton. It is not nice. Rooms are dirty, smell of smoke, and is terribly busy. This is not a 5 star hotel. You can book it on numerous websites for less than 100 a night. The room was so bad I almost just moved myself to another hotel.
The tours. First off, every tour that Look at Egypt includes is easily available through a dozen websites. The total cost for the entire Egypt trip tours could have been booked for under 500.00. Because of what wasn't fulfilled by the Dubai portion they offered us a Nile Dinner Cruise as compensation. We were promised that it was a nice dinner and the only additional cost would be alcohol. We finally arrived at Scarabee Boat. Brought upstairs to the dirtiest table I have ever seen. After about 20 minutes the waiter comes over with the drink menu. They even charge extra for WATER! I decided to check the reviews of the place online and to my surprise the place has horrible reviews. Most reviewers suggest eating at one of the other dozen dinner cruises with better food and clean accommodations.
We eventually just had our driver bring us back to our terrible hotel room.
To be fair, I haven't done the pyramid portion of the tour but needless to say, my expectations are very low. We also paid extra 270 for an all day trip to Alexandria. I am dreading that portion also.
I learned a HUGE lesson. Go on Expedia and review the hotels and choose them yourself. It will end up being much nicer and likely less expensive. Then book out all your own tours. Hands down the tours we booked ourselves were substantially better than the ones Look at Egypt booked for us.
I would never use them again. Feel this was an extraordinary waste of money. I hope this review saves you from going through what I had to.
The ONLY positive was they didn't botch the airport transfers. Those guys were always on time and helpful. But you could have booked them on your own for 100.
So I paid over 3000 for what would arguably at best be a 1500 value.

We recently took the Orca Base Camp trip with Sea Kayak Adventures. It was amazing. Yes its camping. We were well taken care of and got to paddle in this pristine area for 4 days. The beautiful scenery and wildlife did not disappoint. Passing Humpbacks, Sea lions, a playful otter, eagles, Orcas, etc. The guides took very good care of every detail of the trip. We would just relax and enjoy the experience. This was our 6th Row Sea Kayak Adventure and we loved it. The guides were well versed in the local history and natural biology of the area. We had fun learning about the area. I had read the book ORCA prior to the trip which made it more fun to see the places and animals featured in the book. Overall, awesome. Read more

We have traveled to Europe five times prior including cruises and self-guided trips, but our experience in Sicily this past May was beyond amazing. Beppe and Heather and guides Giuseppe and Federica led us on a gorgeous bike and gastronomic adventure.....throw in two illustrious (and yet so personable) chefs and a great group, it exceeded all our expectations. Best vacation of our lifetime. Every day featured “insider” cultural, historical, social, and agricultural insights. We consumed some fantastic calories, yet by virtue of cycling and walking, we somehow came back at the same weight. Tourissimo is worth every penny! Read more

Private Guided Tours and Travel Guide

Private Guided Attractions & Landmarks Guide

If you aren't interested in a group guided tour, you can still travel with a guide on your own. A number of tour operators will fix you up with a private guide or guides for the duration of your trip. Your tour could either be customized to your liking, or you could choose one of the standard itineraries offered by the operator, so that you don't have to think about where to stay, how long to be gone, when to fly, or any other travel logistics. Private guided tours are, of course, typically more expensive than group tours, but you never have to worry about getting lost in the crowd.

A private guided tour can prove to be one of your most memorable and satisfying travel experiences. You – or your smallish group of family and friends – have the use of your own guide(s) to introduce you to and immerse you in far-off locales and cultures that you might not feel comfortable navigating on your own.

A good private tour company and guide should confer with you and your companions as to your preferences on what to see and do, what your energy level is, and how much free rein you’d like during the trip. On a private guided tour, you aren’t just one member of a group, but the star of the show.

Personalized Service

Most tour agencies that offer private guided tours are eager to work with you in pre-planning trips according to your individual preferences. For instance, if you and your family have always wanted to see the Great Migration of wildebeest in Tanzania’s Serengeti, they’ll work to make it happen. If you’re traveling with young children, they’ll take that into account.

But it’s fine, too, to say, “I’ve heard about river boats in France but how can I cruise through Bordeaux with just my family?” The tour company might well suggest a luxury barge trip on a vessel complete with your own private chef, then make all the arrangements so that all you have to do is show up.

Whatever kind of private guided tour you choose – an African safari, a cook’s tour of Tuscany, a trek through the Himalayas, or perhaps that barge trip through Bordeaux -- your guide will be, for the most part, at your beck and call. But you may well choose to let your guide lead the way, to take best advantage of his or her expertise. Either way, the service should be tailored to your wants and needs.

Added Flexibility

Regular guided group tours – where most participants typically don’t know each other before the trip – can be a wonderful way to make new friends, and are often very budget-friendly. A possible downside, though, is that you generally won’t have any control over who you’re traveling with, exactly where you’re going and when, at what pace you’re traveling, or, in many cases, the size of the group.

With private guided tours, on the other hand, you get all the benefits of regular guided group tours – not having to wrestle with logistics or hassle with transportation, gaining the insights and access that good local guides can provide, knowing what the total trip will cost in advance, and more -– with none of the potential drawbacks. It all adds up to more flexibility for you and, if you’re not going solo, your own small group of friends or family.

Other Things to Keep in Mind

In some parts of the world, guides are expected to eat separately from the tour group, so if you’d like to invite your private guide to dine with you, ask politely -- but don’t be offended if he or she has to decline.

Even with family members and groups of friends, disagreements can erupt while traveling. Try to work out any potential problem areas before you start your trip, because to take best advantage of a private guided tour, you won’t want to give your guide constantly conflicting signals.

Private guided tours can be ideal for family travel, since children can be themselves and guides can tailor activities to them and give them more individual attention than in a larger group tour.

Private guided tours are also good for specialty travel, such as birding trips, photo tours, or wine tasting expeditions in which you have intense interest in one activity and want to spend the bulk of your time on it.
