Rhone River Cruise in 7-8 Days
One week along the Rhone River is an excellent way to get a taste for the region. Most tour operators stop at key cultural destinations, while also allowing ample time to enjoy the changing landscapes. Day 1, Avignon: Begin your journey at this intriguing city by visiting the historic gems of the Fortress and the Palace. Get acquainted with your guides and the boat that will accompany you along your journey by having a lovely dinner aboard.
Day 2-3, Tarascon (Arles or Tarascon): These towns are known for their connection to ancient Roman ruins. They also have been the muse for some of Van Gogh’s paintings because of their picturesque architecture.
Day 4, Viviers: A visit to Viviers gives you the opportunity to see village life in Southern France. You will have the chance to meet local craftspeople and talk walks through the countryside.
Day 5, Tournon (Tain-l’Hermitage): Wine Aficionados will love these twin cities. You can take a hearty hike through vineyard country or take a relaxing stroll to various local vineyards.
Day 6, Lyon: Explore the culinary capital of the region, through wine tastings or visiting many specialty restaurants. Do a walking or bike tour of the historic section of the city. Learn about local artisanal crafts.
Day 7, Mâcon (Beaune): The Burgundy region hosts some of the most prized wines of the region. Extravagant farm-fresh dinners, talks with local winemakers and a delicious taste of red await you.
Day 8, Lyon: Enjoy your last day soaking in this city in the company of the friends you made along your cruise.

2 Week French Cruise - featuring the Rhone River
Most itineraries that span 2 weeks combine the Rhone River Valley with other landmark destinations along waterways, such as Paris, Switzerland or other tributary rivers. These itineraries tend to include active options in additional to the cultural and historic activities. A two week trip that includes the Rhone River is a great way to truly immerse yourself in the region’s culture. Day 1-8, Same itinerary as the one week Rhone River itinerary, on the 8th day, you will transfer to Paris via high speed train.
Day 9, La Roche-Guyon, Vernon Giverny: You will be able to immerse yourself in the impressionist landscapes of Monet. You can visit the home and grounds of the famous artist as well.
Day 10, Rouen (Normandy Beaches): The Normandy Beaches is a very significant historic destination with the Allies’ D-day invasion. You will immerse yourself in this history and continue to learn from these sites.
Day 11, Caudebec-en-Caux (Honfleur or Étretat): Excellent locations to embrace the sweeping landscapes through a round of golf, a bike ride or paint like the famous artists who captured these beautiful locales.
Day 12, Rouen: Despite numerous battles, the city of Rouen maintains much of its cultural charm. You can see the cathedral that Monet painted numerous times or see where Joan of Arc was martyred.
Day 13, Mantes-la-Jolie (Versailles): Ever wonder where the French rulers lived? You will see the magnificent and extravagant grounds and location of Versailles.
Day 14, Paris: On the last day, walk through two beloved neighborhoods of Paris to get a true sense of its character and charm. Spend time saying goodbye to the friends and guides you’ve shared this adventure with.

Wine and Culinary Rhone River Cruise

Day 7, Mâcon (Beaune): This region is known for exceptional wines amongst the backdrop of picturesque landscapes. Your cruise will certainly have a wealth of information on how to find the perfect wine to complement your days. Return to Lyon or depart from here.
