What travelers are saying

"My wife and I chose to the 10 day tour of Ireland for our Honeymoon and we had just the best time. We saw much of the small villages and some of the big cities with all the greenery and food in between. My favorite place personally was Galway with a great food and drink scene and a cute college-town vibe. The best tour definitely was Newgrange site which shows ancient tombs from 4000 years ago. Our tour guide Mark was amazing! He made the tour with interesting insights and knowledge of where ever we were going. He was always willing to accommodate requests from us for quick extra stops and sight seeing. Mark even went the extra mile planning a small party for my birthday on the tour as well. I cannot speak highly enough of Mark as a tour guide."

"Rented two bikes in May 2019. Excellent service from Xavier from start to finish. He was extremely responsive and delivered the (brand new Orbea) bikes to our villa and recommended some great cycling routes around the beautiful Basque Country. Will definitely use Bike Basque again - highly recommended."

What travelers are saying

"We spent two wonderful weeks touring several of the best destinations in Portugal & Spain with a group of 16 people. Our guide (Fredy) was from Spain and intimately familiar with the region, including its rich history, attractions, and food/beverages. The tour was well-paced using a combinations of private vehicles (small buses and cabs), trains, and an airplane ride as well as a fair amount of walking to get around these two beautiful countries. We extended our stay in Lisbon to see more attractions and took a side trip to Fatima, Obidos, and Nazare that was also excellent. Would have liked to have a bit more time in a couple of the cities, but we'll just have to plan another trip!"

Ring of Kerry Tour Selection Trips

  • There are many ways to experience the Ring of Kerry -- in a small car on a small group Ireland tour, in a large group in a bus, or even by hiking or cycling. Each of these options can take a significantly different amount of time, and can yield an entirely different experience -- so choose carefully, and check over our guide before deciding!
  • If you know you are going to be tempted to get out into the Irish landscape, whether that’s through hillwalking, more intense hiking, or even cycling, then you should look into tours that spend more time in the various national parks the Ring of Kerry passes through.

Additional details

Weather on the Ring of Kerry

One thing to remember is that weather is always variable in Kerry, especially on the coast. This mainly has to do with wind and rain, which can pick up unexpectedly, though temperatures can also drop when it gets cloudy.

Summer is the best time to visit the Ring of Kerry, especially if you are cycling. This is the time of year with the warmest weather, with temperatures ranging from 60 to 70 degrees. The summer also affords the longest days, sometimes with up to 18 hours of sunlight. The only downside to visiting the Ring of Kerry during the summer is that everyone else is too, and you may find yourself crowded in at some points.

In the winter, there are dramatically less tourists touring the Ring of Kerry, and hardly any cyclists or hikers. This has to do with the fact that the winter is the rainiest time of year in Kerry, which is already one of the rainiest places in a very rainy country. The wind can also be very strong in the winter. However, if you want to experience the Irish landscape and feel like you are the only person in the world, the winter is the best time to do it.

In regards to weather and crowds, the spring and fall are (predictably) between the two extremes.

What to Wear: Ring of Kerry

Because of the unpredictable weather, it’s good to pack layers to the Ring of Kerry, no matter the time of year. If you are driving, you may find yourself needing a sweater whenever you hop out of your car, or having to take a long-sleeve off if the sun starts peeking out from behind the clouds.

You should also wear a pair of good outdoors shoes, such as a pair of sneakers or hiking boots. If you plan on actually hiking, you are best off wearing something waterproof, since the ground will likely be wet and potentially slick.

What to Bring: Ring of Kerry

First and foremost, you should pack a camera. The sights along the Ring of Kerry are some of the most impressive in the world, and you will want to photograph them to make sure you remember them.

Other than a camera, we recommend packing a couple of snacks (in case you get hungry in between towns), a poncho or rain jacket (in preparation for a drizzle!), and some sunscreen if you are traveling in the summer (when the sun is out, it is stronger than it feels). If you are especially lucky with the weather, you may even want to bring a bathing suit -- there are going to be some incredible beach spots along the way!
