Romania and Beyond in 2 Weeks

Many Romanian tour itineraries explore Eastern and Central Europe, visiting 2-5 other countries. While all their cultures are unique, their shared political history makes them fascinating to visit altogether in one trip.

Day 1-2, Berlin: Welcome to Berlin! The city is saturated in historical importance and is a melting pot of diverse cultures and people. Walk the Berlin Wall, the symbolic monument that divided the city during the Cold War.

Day 3, Prague: Dive into the wonders of Prague. Walk the Charles Bridge and witness its vendors and street musicians that make the city come to life. Wander the streets of Mala Strana on the other side of the bridge, and perhaps indulge in the loud and lively atmosphere of traditional Czech pubs. You can also spend the evening sampling Czech beer, which is world-famous for its quality and low cost. In Prague, beer is cheaper than water!

Day 4, Český Krumlov: The town of Český Krumlov is a gem in South Bohemia. Visit the Český Krumlov Castle, which is the perfect matrimony of Renaissance, Gothic, and Baroque elements.

Day 5-6, Vienna: Drive across the border into Austria. Relax and enjoy the evening in Vienna. Perhaps visit the opera house, art galleries or its beautiful palaces! Sample some of Vienna’s mouthwatering treats at Naschmarkt.

Day 7-8, Budapest: Welcome to Hungary! The city of Budapest evokes harmony between history, with its grand architecture, and modernism with its glamorous stores and restaurants. Explore all the treasures the city has to offer — from the Jewish Quarter, the communists monuments in Statue Park, to Budapest’s bustling main street, Váci Utca!

Day 9, Cluj-Napoca: During the full-day transfer from Hungary to Romania, stretch your legs and enjoy a picnic at the Salt Hill terraces.

Day 10, Sighișoara: Marvel at the world’s deepest underground salt museum at the Salina Turda Salt Mine. You could spend hours here — it’s an amusement park, salt museum, AND recreational center. Ride the ferris wheel, play ping-pong, row a boat in the lake, play mini-golf, or simply just simply explore the mine’s deep caverns! Afterwards, head to Sighișoara, and walk around the charming old town.

Day 11-12, Braşov: Romania is known for its fresh local produce — free from additives, preservatives, and genetic modifications. In the village of Medias, enjoy the authentic taste of vegetables, and learn more about traditional Transylvanian cuisine! In Braşov, visit the impressive Black Church, which earned its name from a fire that charred its walls. Take a look at another iconic Romanian building, Bran Castle — also known as Dracula’s castle. Relax and sip some afternoon tea at the castle’s tea house.

Day 13-14, Bucharest: On the way to Bucharest, Romania’s capital, stop at Snagov Monastery, the final resting place of Vlad the Impaler. In addition to the history and culture that is tied to this location, the monastery is infamous for its intricately painted walls. In Bucharest, explore the city by bicycle and visit its wonderful art nouveau buildings, ancient churches, lush parkland, lakes, and elegant boulevards.  Don’t miss the Palace of Parliament — the second largest building in the world!

Romania in 7-10 Days

Day 1-2, Maramures: The Maramures region is saturated with tradition and folklore— traditional wooden houses and churches, music, and lifestyle. Hospitality is ingrained in Romanian culture, so dig into a hearty home-cooked meal. Explore villages and the several quirks of the region, including the Merry cemetery

Day 3, Sighisoara: While the drive to Sighisoara is long, be entranced by the charm of the pastoral fields and untouched Saxon towns. Sighisoara is the famed birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for the iconic Count Dracula, so indulge in the folklore that entrance the city.

Day 4, Viscri: Only an hour away from Sighisoara, but worlds apart.  Ride a horse cart over pastures, walk under the red tiled roofs that has been unchanged for 900 years, visit town’s fortified church, and learn more about the Sock Project, which works to support the local Roma community. To tie it all together, sample some fresh produce and homemade wine.

Day 5, Brasov: Once a major medieval trading center, this Saxon city is home to several iconic Romanian landmarks, such as Bran’s castle and Biserica Neagra, the Black Church. Brasov also has plenty of funky bars and restaurants to enjoy once darkness falls.

Day 6-7, Bucharest: Back in Romania’s capital. Explore the city by bicycle and visit its wonderful art nouveau buildings, ancient churches and monasteries, lush parkland, lakes and elegant boulevards. Don’t miss the Palace of Parliament — the second largest building in the world!

7 day Transfagaran Adventure

The Carpathian Mountains are the backdrop for several Romanian landmarks. Conquer the the peaks and valleys of this mountain range, while delving into the rich cultural experiences that the country has to offer.

Day 1, The beginning of the Transfagarasan road: Follow the canyon route and see waterfalls, ladders, dams, lakes, and bridges.

Day 2, Onwards to Negoiu Peak: From Balea Glacier Lake, hike through the main ridge trail of the Transylvanian Alps. Be captivated by the beauty of the Caltun Glacier Lake, and the high walls of Lespezi and Caltun Peaks. After a five-hour hike, celebrate — you’ve just reached Romania’s second-highest peak, Negoiu! Return back to the car to drive to Transylvania and Sibiu for some well-deserved rest

Day 3, Rest Day: Enjoy the cultural splendors of Sibiu — the Village Museum, Rasinari village, and the old town of Sibiu.

Day 4, Onwards to Piatra Craiului: Start the day early with a scenic drive following the river Barsa, where you will start your ascent up the breathtaking Piatra Craiului, the Prince’s Stone. If you’re lucky, you might come across some shy mountain goats.

Day 5, Rest Day: After Day 4’s rigorous hike, unwind and take in the beauties of Transylvanian landmarks, such as Bran’s castle, the medieval citadel of Sighisoara.

Day 6, Conquering Bucegi mountain: Hike through a steep trail to the plateau of Bucegi Mountain. Witness the mountain’s deepest glaciated valley, the Gaura. Five hours later, arrive at Omu, the highest peak of the Bucegi mountain, which is elevated at 8,225 ft. Although it was a challenging hike, the captivating views of the valleys will take your breath away

Day 7, Rasnov to Bucharest: The drive back to Bucharest is long, but on the way, enjoy the iconic Bran castle and the charming Pestera village.
