Planning the trip with the consultant at this travel agency went smoothly. July 20174.0
All of the accommodations were fine and most of the local tour guides were excellent. Our guides in the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and Cusco were excellent. Unfortunately I was very ill in Lake Titicaca and could not go on the tour, but the local tour guide helped us find a doctor, called my husband several times to make sure I was ok, and came to the hotel to check on me. She was very helpful in my time of need.
Our Lima tour guide was curt and not very good and the guide who rode with us for over 8 hours for the Nazca lines tour fell asleep most of the time and was NOT very informative.
Our consultant did not respond to an email when I had a medical emergency in Peru. However, the person monitoring the chat line was able to make our travel changes for a price that I believe is excessive. Changing 1 flight out of 3 on our return trip cost me $100 from the travel company for the change fee. I think considering the cost for the trip, they could have done that for free since I also had to pay the travel company and the tour company. Given my condition in the morning I was unable to leave the hotel room and travel for an hour to the airport. It took some time for the prescribed drugs to take effect so I had to leave later. The hotel was extremely helpful and accommodating, including allowing us to check out from our room very late." Read more

I really enjoyed this trip to Belize December 20164.0
Why did you choose to travel with Island Expeditions?:
It is a Canadian Company located in BC. I know they have been around for a long time. I also explored trip advisor to see how they rated. With all of these being considered, I chose Island Expeditions.
What was the highlight of your trip?:
One of the highlights of the trip on Lighthouse Reef was the early morning yoga with Andrea, it set the tone for the day and I felt yoga was such a positive addition to the whole experience.

A big tick off the bucket list! August 20164.0
The day trek along the Inca Trail from Km 104 to Machu Picchu was challenging but absolutely wonderful. Arriving at the Sun Gate and looking down on Machu Picchu as the crowds were leaving at the end of the day was one of the highlights in an altogether fantastic holiday.
Wilmer in Peru, Gloria in Ecuador and David in the Galapagos Islands were all knowledgable, professional and helpful. Both Gloria and David went out of their way to look after an injured member of our party, and David in particular went to a lot of trouble to ensure she was able to enjoy as many of the excursions as possible.
This is a purely personal observation, but not being able to flush toilet paper on the boat, and having to put it into a bin with no lid was enough to stop up my metabolism for the week! The bin was only emptied once a day as well! The provision of bio-degradable nappy sacks for used toilet paper would have been more hygenic.
One of our party really struggled with the ascent on our Inca trail trek, slowing down the group to the extent that we only just made the time at Winay Wayna. Highlighting the difficulty of the walk when people book would give people chance to prepare or opt out.

10 day trip with Caravan to spectacular Guatemala August 20164.0
The Caravan Tour (you can see the details on Stride) was excellent-a great guide, good hotels, decent, food, (unexciting and somewhat bland, but varied and good quality) and great, well travelled tour participants.
Overall, the country is beautiful and we had a wonderful time on our trip. If you are thinking of going, I would encourage you to go. Read more
