Given that her first international flight was taken before the age of one, it's not surprising that Samantha was bitten by the travel bug early on. Her family loved to travel and she vividly remembers exciting trips to London, Ireland, and Italy. But it was with a move to Melbourne, Australia in 2001 that her love of travel was solidified.
While the family was living in the land down under they took full advantage of it. The years were full of adventrues along the Great Ocean Road, to Uluru, to Tasmania, to The Great Barrier Reef, and to New Zealand, which still remains in the #1 spot of favorites.
Living in Australia as an expat from the ages of 16 to 18 had its challenges, but was a tremendous learning experience. And after moving back to the United States for school, the need to travel remained.
In 2008, while a student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she studied abroad in Budapest, Hungary. It was here that her interest in learning about countries through their history was formed. A fascination with Cold War history only grew with visits to Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Romania, and Slovakia.
After school, a trip to Colombia inspired her to start travel writing and blogging. You can keep up with her experiences on ExploringHistorian.com.
New Zealand! Especially: walking on a glacier, bungee jumping, paragliding, jet boating, road tripping from Queenstown to Nelson, and forcing my family to go on an all day Lord of the Rings tour.
