With teenage children, we wanted to do something that would satisfy all of us. There was enough fun activities to keep us active and enough down time for us to relax. We were pushed outside our comfort zone, but the outstanding staff was there to encourage us and cheer us on.Read more

Pura Vida in Costa Rica is a vacation is for those who like the water—we were white water rafting, kayaking, rappelling down a waterfall, and even soaking in hot springs. Great food and lodging, interesting birds and animals to see, and excellent guides made this our best adventure vacation yet.Read more

This trek is definitely worth it. It might take a week to trek from start to finish but it is worth every step. The day we got to the base camp was very difficult but only because it started the hail, then snow in the last couple hours of trekking. Apart from that the trek was amazing. The views were amazing and I got to see thing i never would have at home.Read more

We chose Annapurna Base Camp because the trek has a lower risk of altitude sickness that Everest Base Camp.Read more
The trek was still quite challenging with many mountains to climb over (the guide called them hills ha ha) before we eventually started to follow the valley line up the mountains towards Base Camp. The accommodation was pretty basic (tea houses) in each village we stopped and the temperature kept getting lower the more we climbed. But once we got to base camp the view was amazing and we were so glad that we decided to do this trip. It was pretty hard, but the memories of being surrounded by some of the tallest mountains in the world was worth all the effort.
I would recommend that trip to anybody with a moderate level of fitness

The company was founded in 1969 and is one of the pioneers in the active, adventure tourism industry. It is based in Northern California, USA.
In 2018, MT Sobek celebrates their 50th anniversary - and 50 years as a leader in the adventure travel space. In honor of this, they have updated their website and are expanding their catalogue of tour offerings - planning to add 60 new trips by the end of 2019.
What Makes MT Sobek Stand Out?
MT Sobek, previously Mountain Travel Sobek is a specialist in crafting adventures such as hiking, trekking, rafting, expedition cruising, and safaris. They help travelers to access some of the more remote corners of the world in comfort and safety. MT Sobek’s first ever trip was to the Himalayas of Nepal, so if you decide on a MT Sobek tour, you can rest assured you are traveling with seasoned veterans.
Who Will Enjoy Traveling With MT Sobek?
These trips are definitely for the outdoorsy type. While exploring and learning about the culture is definitely an important part of trips with MT Sobek, it’s a secondary theme to the physical adventure. A passion for nature, conservation, hiking, camping, and wildlife will definitely be found among your tour companions.
If you’re the kind of traveling for whom a pair of hiking boots is just as essential to your travels as cultural activities, then the MT Sobek approach will be perfect for you.
Most meals, all accommodations and transportation, are included during their tours - so if having ample free time is important to you, be sure to read the itinerary carefully. There will probably be a lot of time together with the group, and if this doesn’t sound appealing, you may want to compare with a few different tours.
MT Sobek attracts like-minded adventurers that can be couples, families, or solo travelers. Age ranges vastly, from late 20’s to 70s. The nice thing about traveling with MT Sobek is their group sizes are small - usually no more than 15 travelers.
Mountain Travel Sobek offers adventure travel experiences on all seven continents -- from the best Canada tours in North America to the most unforgettable vacation packages to Costa Rica in South America.
Some of their best known guided trips are to the rivers of Asia, Africa, and South America as well as trekking and hiking trips in the Himalayas. They also offer more relaxed itineraries, such as small-ship cruising in the blue waters off of Turkey.
MT Sobek Travel Style
The activity level on every MT Sobek tour is given a grade between 1-5. This will help you choose the style you want - whether you’re looking to take easy or give yourself more of a physical challenge.
Tours with MT Sobek that are graded 1 are the easiest, often focusing heavily on wildlife viewing activities, and cultural experiences. Tours that are graded around 2-3 are great for those who are new to adventure outdoor travel - including kids and older travelers. Trips are not hard and feature simpler and shorter duration hikes and other activities.
The more physically challenging tours with MT Sobek will be in the 4-5 grade range. If you have some experience already with longer distance hiking or kayaking and are used to elevation changes, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy trips in this range
Why Choose a Tour with MT Sobek?
If you like to challenge yourself and experience an adventurous holiday, then MT Sobek could be the tour company for you. Their guides are mostly locals with advanced training in their niche (mountain guiding, river rafting, etc).
