Thank you, Yvette, for planning another incredible trip to Africa for us. Southern Africa was everything we hoped it would be. Our trip was seamless thanks to your expert planning and perfect itinerary. We loved everything -- the countless birds, abundant game, breath-taking Victoria Falls, the wonderful people and the smells and beautiful skies of Zimbabwe and Botswana. Cape Cadogen hotel was enchanting and the safari camps beyond description. We are already dreaming of our next visit to that amazing continent.

My husband and I worked with Yvette to book our upcoming trip to Africa (specifically South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe). We cannot sing her praises enough! She was so knowledgable (being from South Africa herself, she was able to answer every question we had- and believe me, we had LOTS of them)! She was also very responsive to my emails and always made herself readily available to talk over the phone (even later in the evening after I got out of work). This was especially appreciated given the fact that we had called her with such a tight turnaround time (I first contacted her with inquiries about one of African Portfolio's standard, sample itineraries in mid-August and we're traveling to Africa at the end of October). My husband I are pretty avid travelers (I've been to about 40 countries) but we are also younger and saving to start a family, so we're always looking to save money where we can. Prior to this trip, we had always researched and booked our own vacations. However, after purchasing Fodor's "The Complete Guide to African Safaris", we quickly realized that this was one trip where it was well worth spending a little extra money to go through a reputable tour operator. We don't envision ourselves returning to Africa any time soon, and this is a destination we've always dreamed of going to, so we wanted to make the most of this trip, and we found that the best way to do that to book through someone who can quickly tell you everything you need to know (like Yvette)! We had compared the costs of standard itineraries that the different recommended operators from the book had posted on their websites (for the sake of time, we didn't bother contacting the operators who didn't post any sample itineraries). African Portfolio's "Cape and Kruger" tour was one of the most affordable that we saw across the operators for the value. However, there were a few things included that we weren't so interested in and other things that were not included that we knew we definitely wanted to go and see (like Victoria Falls)! Yvette worked with our budget (we were willing to spend more if there was a way to include Victoria Falls in lieu of a couple of days elsewhere) to complete customize an itinerary for us (a few days in Cape Town, a few nights in Sabi Sands, and a few nights at Victoria Falls- if you haven't ever heard of Devil's Pool- which I hadn't until Yvette told me all about it- I promise you it's worth looking up). :) She recommended a number of different "must see" excursions that we didn't even know existed and completely blew our minds once we looked them up (the Batoka Sky micro lights, for example). As one last point worth mentioning, Yvette was just super friendly throughout the entire process and I would highly recommend that any person- on any budget- who is looking to get the most out of their trip- reach out to her for her knowledge and expertise and book through this amazing company!

This is a holiday gave me a chance to slow down, and take the time to feel part of the natural world: the sun, to notice the hook-beaked oyster catchers and families of rare seals, to enjoy the wonderful food, the sunshine, scudding clouds, waves lapping and the feeling of being held safely by the St Hilda whilst being at the mercy of winds, tides and waves. It was fun to share tasks with fellow passengers and to laugh. I haven't laughed so much for years. And I loved seeing beautiful coastal parts of Scotland for the first time from the sea, gaining the chance to wonder at the histories and cultures that have flourished, been lost and yet live on in the remote, unusual places where we moored. I discovered my sea-legs, but I found much more - the pleasure of a little bit of distance from land, the new perspectives it gives and sheer joy of experiencing the sea, and its role in revealing new dreams and uncovering old ones. All this was in the company of knowledgeable crew - sea-farers who made the whole cruise delightful from start to finish and easy-peasy for a land-lubber like myself.

This was a fantastic holiday - there is something magical about being in a ship, relying on wind and waves, seeing beautiful scenery, eating lovely food, helping sail the ship and enjoying the experience with a group of witty, friendly, knowledgeable people.

This holiday was like no other: it was stepping into another world where the wind, sun and sea mattered because our lives were held by the ship and these big elemental forces. It was a realm of sea faring lore, laughter and fun, where the elements - water, wind and tides - mattered and shaped and influenced our journey. It's easy to laugh on a ship because you are sharing the camaraderie of crew and ocean and somehow the sea is lighter than the land. Instead you have the myths and stories of sea and mysteries of the deep - Moby Dick, Jonah, Noah's Ark and Ring of Bright Water! It's fascinating to be on a slow journey with time to reflect and to be looking at the strange, populated and then depopulated, fought over Scottish coastal landscape from a new perspectives. It's fun to work with the charming, witty, friendly skippers and fellow crew hauling anchors and sails. But, most of all, it's a joy to be on, and in, and feeling the elemental ocean. I felt safe and found my sea-legs, but I also stumbled into a new world, one that enriches and ignites dreams.
