I've seen a number of positive reviews for Aracari Travel, and I don't want to totally discount a recent trip to Peru using Aracari. We had a nice trip, but encountered some unexpected issues along the way. Aracari provides an emergency phone number to call when an emergency occurs. We didn't encounter any emergencies until the end of our trip. Our flight home was cancelled in the middle of the night. We had trouble with our phones trying to get in contact our previous hotel in the area, so we reached called the emergency line. We asked if they could help us contact the hotel, but we were told that was the airline's problem. We weren't asking for Aracari to pay for the hotel, just for help to contact our prior hotel to see if they had any vacancies before we took a cab there. We didn't receive any help from Aracari on this at all--we never heard back from them. The odd part of this was on the way to the airport to return home, we rode with the emergency contact, Raul, and heard how business wasn't about the money to him, but rather making sure people were taken care of while in Peru. We found it odd that hours after hearing this, the response to our emergency was totally different. It was very disheartening. Maybe we were a one-off time this happened, but I would want to know about this if I were searching for a travel company to trust while traveling, and especially regarding a company that claims "luxury meets authenticity".

We encountered additional flukes such as an unexpected hotel cost, incomplete packing information, and a missed opportunity in the rainforest. I suppose no trip is perfect, but these also put a damper on our trip.

As I state above, I don't want to totally discount our trip. We enjoyed the site seeing as well as the excellent guides, drivers, and experiences. After paying thousands of dollars, we were disappointed with being left in the dark.

Professional travel services. The only way to experience Peru!
Our family of 5 adults had a fantastic time in Peru and visiting Machu Picchu. We had no worries and even ran into a passport issue which the Aracari Team efficiently and quickly helped us resolve. Simply fantastic!

My mom and I just came back from an incredible trip to Bolivia with Aracari. Our travel planner, Erika, was incredibly professional, quick to reply and accommodating even before arriving, and planned a great itinerary for us. It was a pretty packed schedule, but we don't feel like we missed anything in La Paz or Uyuni/Siloli Desert. The places we visited and the information we received from the guides in both parts of the trip exceeded expectations and it's all still sinking in as we go through the hundreds of surreal photos we were able to take. We are extremely pleased with the week and will never forget our time in Bolivia thanks to Aracari! GRACIAS por una experiencia inolvidable :)

I was very impressed with the Family Adventure company in terms of the holiday delivered which was exceptional. The booking and pre-holiday experience was fine although it would be better to have a specific contact to email rather than just to phone the general number with queries.

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective, FAC were not as welcoming. Another company we have travelled with sent a welcome pack with a travelling companion (soft toy) and activities to do while travelling. When on the holiday this company also catered more for families needs e.g. more frequent stops when travelling for food and toilets, without parents having to ask. The stops were also at more sensible times e.g. making sure there was a stop at lunch time (12.30ish), rather than early afternoon (1.30 onwards). Children (and adults) get irritable if they've not eaten making the journey more stressful.

      About The Family Adventure Company

Founded two decades ago and based in the UK, The Family Adventure Company specializes in small group family adventure vacations. The company is now part of the global adventure travel operator Intrepid Travel, and trips are offered through Intrepid as well, allowing them to greatly expand their range.

      What Makes Them Stand Out?

With more than 20 years’ experience, The Family Adventure Company helped pioneer the concept of small-group adventure travel for families with young children. Activities are wide-ranging, from river rafting and kayaking to cycling, sailing, camping, and wildlife viewing, all geared to the ages and interests of the family travelers.

      Who Travels With Them?

A wide variety of families, including solo-parent, single-child, multi-generational families -- parents, children, and grandparents traveling together -- and families with teenagers. The latter have dedicated trips of special interest to teens.

      Where Do They Operate?

Much of the world: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

      How Does it Work?

No matter where you travel, The Family Adventure Company provides an English-speaking, family-friendly local leader. Lodging, transportation and activities are also included. Tours typically consist of three or four families with kids of similar ages or interests. (You can also put together your own trip with just your family or other families you’re friendly with.) Children 14 and under get a ten percent discount off adult prices; large families (over two kids) get another price break.

      Why Travel With Them?

The award winning company offers a wide range of trips for a wide variety of families. Because they only cater to families, they know what kids like – and as any parent can tell you, nothing is more disastrous than a family tour not geared in any way to kids. The company also supports responsible and sustainable travel practices and gives back to local communities.
