I had an accident on Tuesday and had complete extensive tear of meniscus that will require surgery. Emailed Grand American Adventures to ask for a transfer of my spot on the Grand Canyon and Zion walking trip in November 2017 to April 2018. All I got was “100% no refund. Hope you get a speedy recovery” in every email response I got. I wasn’t even asking for a refund, just company credit for a later trip.
I chose to pay $2,700 for an 11 day walking tour with them because they are a British company and I had faith in the way the Brits run things. Turned out the “cannot cannot” attitude and lack of flexibility the way things are done is rampant in Blighty. I would never recommend this company to anyone no matter how amazing their trips might sound. There are hundreds other American companies that cost much less and are willing to transfer clients’ spots for medical reasons on credit. #donotjoin #grandamericanadventures

Just back from mini tour New York to Niagra falls and finger lakes. Fantastic views of Niagra falls, trip to the Three Brothers Winery. The hotels & where we stopped for food were good and have already recommend them. Tour leader Chris was very good. Will recommend this tour as great for those first time visitors to America.

I was very impressed with the Family Adventure company in terms of the holiday delivered which was exceptional. The booking and pre-holiday experience was fine although it would be better to have a specific contact to email rather than just to phone the general number with queries.

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective, FAC were not as welcoming. Another company we have travelled with sent a welcome pack with a travelling companion (soft toy) and activities to do while travelling. When on the holiday this company also catered more for families needs e.g. more frequent stops when travelling for food and toilets, without parents having to ask. The stops were also at more sensible times e.g. making sure there was a stop at lunch time (12.30ish), rather than early afternoon (1.30 onwards). Children (and adults) get irritable if they've not eaten making the journey more stressful.

      What Makes Them Stand Out?

Offering the widest range of small group tours in North, Central, and South America, Grand American Adventures is a leader in active adventure tourism. What makes them stand out is their attention to providing travelers with a, not purely adventure activity focused. They are all about presenting travelers with a well rounded experience, so your trip will be not just about adventure activities, but also the history, culture, and lifestyle of your destination.

      Who Travels With Them?

Active travelers who are interested in having an adventurous journey but also want to experience the culture of their destination. Their several trip types are geared towards adults between the ages of 25 to 55. Families with children 8 and up are welcome and older travelers are welcome if they are physically fit. Many trips have a camping component so be prepared for that!

      Where Do They Operate?

Grand American Adventures focuses on the Americas, operating tours throughout North, Central, and South America.

      Why Travel With Them?

With a maximum group size of 13 people on most of their tours, a guarantee of no single supplements, and highly trained, engaging tour leaders this is the perfect choice for travelers seeking an all encompassing journey. They have over 60 carefully crafted itineraries, allowing you to find the perfect tour for your interests and desired activity level. Their tours aim to encompass everything that makes your destination special from visiting the  most exciting sights and highlights, to off-the-beaten-path locations.

      About The Family Adventure Company

Founded two decades ago and based in the UK, The Family Adventure Company specializes in small group family adventure vacations. The company is now part of the global adventure travel operator Intrepid Travel, and trips are offered through Intrepid as well, allowing them to greatly expand their range.

      What Makes Them Stand Out?

With more than 20 years’ experience, The Family Adventure Company helped pioneer the concept of small-group adventure travel for families with young children. Activities are wide-ranging, from river rafting and kayaking to cycling, sailing, camping, and wildlife viewing, all geared to the ages and interests of the family travelers.

      Who Travels With Them?

A wide variety of families, including solo-parent, single-child, multi-generational families -- parents, children, and grandparents traveling together -- and families with teenagers. The latter have dedicated trips of special interest to teens.

      Where Do They Operate?

Much of the world: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

      How Does it Work?

No matter where you travel, The Family Adventure Company provides an English-speaking, family-friendly local leader. Lodging, transportation and activities are also included. Tours typically consist of three or four families with kids of similar ages or interests. (You can also put together your own trip with just your family or other families you’re friendly with.) Children 14 and under get a ten percent discount off adult prices; large families (over two kids) get another price break.

      Why Travel With Them?

The award winning company offers a wide range of trips for a wide variety of families. Because they only cater to families, they know what kids like – and as any parent can tell you, nothing is more disastrous than a family tour not geared in any way to kids. The company also supports responsible and sustainable travel practices and gives back to local communities.
