This was my first trip with H&I and it greatly exceeded expectations in every way. The organization and logistics were all superbly organized and carefully planned, the guides were knowledgeable and professional, and the trails were world-class. The majority on riding was on superb single track through a variety of terrain. Cultural aspects of the country were woven into every day uniquely yet impressionably. We rode into regions largely devoid of other visitors and retaining thousands of years of history and culture. From start to finish, this trip was exceptional. I have already booked my second trip with H&I for next year!!

All in all, another amazing adventure

We selected H&I for a Scottish Highlands Coast to Coast mountain bike ride because they seemed to have the best handle on adventure and why we get out and ride. Our trip was amazing and so well orchestrated. From the advance materials sent out in the months ahead with training recommendations and gear needs down to the details for each and every stop along the trip. The whole H&I team did a great job of instantly making us feel like friends coming for a visit and ensuring we had a fun, challenging and safe adventure with them. They'll help you change a tube, hose you off at the end of the day and kindly point out all the places to avoid killing yourself on a technical descent. Great team.

Their tours may not be cheap, but they are a tremendous value. We've already booked another trip with them for later in the year.

Update: 10/23/2018

After Scotland’s Coast to Coast, we put our trust in H&I for Nepal. Their organization and logistics made the decision simple and Mandil’s team on the ground in Nepal was so well run, even our flights were on time. Mostly...

Smooth operations aside, the trip is expertly crafted to contrast the chaos of Kathmandu with the calm in Nagarkot. The subtropical forest and rice patties around Bhaktapur with the windswept Mustang Valley and hanging glaciers of the Annapurna region.

Hundreds of photos and none will convey the shear scale of the Himalaya, the steepness of terrain or the power of the wind. They will show incredible sights, happy riders, and the face of winded exhaustion approaching the top of Lubra Pass.

Let’s not forget the riding. Euan undersold the riding to us while we were in Scotland. The trails were spectacular. From the rooty drops of Nagarkot to the wide open speed runs of Lubra, each trail had its own character and challenge. Yes, we all walked something. Sometimes up, sometimes down. We crashed, we laughed, we bled a little, but that is why we are out on mountain bikes away from the confines of a tour bus.

Of course there are also the people. The Nepali people were warm and welcoming. We always felt safe for ourselves and our gear. Mandil is amazing. A great guide and rider, but also a wealth of global pop culture which kept meals, shuttles and tours entertaining and educational.

The support crew had our bikes and luggage ready, always on time and in the right place. RJ and Nish had our backs on the trail for fast tube swaps or maintenance between rides.

Lastly in the people department are the types of individuals H&I attracts. While each group will have a different makeup and character, you find yourself building friendships over the course of the trip. Shared suffering on the climbs and post descent survival adrenaline seems to help with those bonds.

All in all, another amazing adventure thanks to H&I.

I was very impressed with the Family Adventure company in terms of the holiday delivered which was exceptional. The booking and pre-holiday experience was fine although it would be better to have a specific contact to email rather than just to phone the general number with queries.

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective, FAC were not as welcoming. Another company we have travelled with sent a welcome pack with a travelling companion (soft toy) and activities to do while travelling. When on the holiday this company also catered more for families needs e.g. more frequent stops when travelling for food and toilets, without parents having to ask. The stops were also at more sensible times e.g. making sure there was a stop at lunch time (12.30ish), rather than early afternoon (1.30 onwards). Children (and adults) get irritable if they've not eaten making the journey more stressful.

      About The Family Adventure Company

Founded two decades ago and based in the UK, The Family Adventure Company specializes in small group family adventure vacations. The company is now part of the global adventure travel operator Intrepid Travel, and trips are offered through Intrepid as well, allowing them to greatly expand their range.

      What Makes Them Stand Out?

With more than 20 years’ experience, The Family Adventure Company helped pioneer the concept of small-group adventure travel for families with young children. Activities are wide-ranging, from river rafting and kayaking to cycling, sailing, camping, and wildlife viewing, all geared to the ages and interests of the family travelers.

      Who Travels With Them?

A wide variety of families, including solo-parent, single-child, multi-generational families -- parents, children, and grandparents traveling together -- and families with teenagers. The latter have dedicated trips of special interest to teens.

      Where Do They Operate?

Much of the world: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

      How Does it Work?

No matter where you travel, The Family Adventure Company provides an English-speaking, family-friendly local leader. Lodging, transportation and activities are also included. Tours typically consist of three or four families with kids of similar ages or interests. (You can also put together your own trip with just your family or other families you’re friendly with.) Children 14 and under get a ten percent discount off adult prices; large families (over two kids) get another price break.

      Why Travel With Them?

The award winning company offers a wide range of trips for a wide variety of families. Because they only cater to families, they know what kids like – and as any parent can tell you, nothing is more disastrous than a family tour not geared in any way to kids. The company also supports responsible and sustainable travel practices and gives back to local communities.
