I was very impressed with the Family Adventure company in terms of the holiday delivered which was exceptional. The booking and pre-holiday experience was fine although it would be better to have a specific contact to email rather than just to phone the general number with queries.

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective

Booking and customer service were good. From a child's perspective, FAC were not as welcoming. Another company we have travelled with sent a welcome pack with a travelling companion (soft toy) and activities to do while travelling. When on the holiday this company also catered more for families needs e.g. more frequent stops when travelling for food and toilets, without parents having to ask. The stops were also at more sensible times e.g. making sure there was a stop at lunch time (12.30ish), rather than early afternoon (1.30 onwards). Children (and adults) get irritable if they've not eaten making the journey more stressful.

Just came back from an expedition to South Georgia on the Ortelius. Good and very stable ship in rough seas, friendly staff and great food. This is no luxury vessel but she is perfect for what we came for: to spend as much time as possible on shore watching wildlife and for that they got brand new and safe zodiacs to bring us there.
South Georgia is a unique place on earth with stunning scenery and abundant wildlife you can approach from very nearby. Highlights were definitely St.Andrews Bay and Salisbury Plain with its colonies of hundreds of thousand of king penguins plus hundreds of elephant seals on the beach, a zodiac cruise along Larsen Harbour seeing quite a few Weddell seals and let's not forget the wonderful wandering albatrosses on Prion Island.

Very good trip. Very good crew, friendly and professional. Very good food. Landscape is wondeful. Bedroom are clean. But....
We didn't go to ukrainian base of Vernadsky while it was written that we go.
Some people had paid 2000 euros less than me because they booked last minute.
We didn't see Horn Cape while we wasn't far.
The bedroom is too much small for three people.

All about the trip was fantastic, including my travel-mates.
Yes the crew/staff/guides/Doctor were first class, but the real bonus was the way people mixed and joined in.

All in all, SUPERB.

PS a big shout for my two restaurant buddies!!!

    About The Family Adventure Company

Founded two decades ago and based in the UK, The Family Adventure Company specializes in small group family adventure vacations. The company is now part of the global adventure travel operator Intrepid Travel, and trips are offered through Intrepid as well, allowing them to greatly expand their range.

    What Makes Them Stand Out?

With more than 20 years’ experience, The Family Adventure Company helped pioneer the concept of small-group adventure travel for families with young children. Activities are wide-ranging, from river rafting and kayaking to cycling, sailing, camping, and wildlife viewing, all geared to the ages and interests of the family travelers.

    Who Travels With Them?

A wide variety of families, including solo-parent, single-child, multi-generational families -- parents, children, and grandparents traveling together -- and families with teenagers. The latter have dedicated trips of special interest to teens.

    Where Do They Operate?

Much of the world: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.

    How Does it Work?

No matter where you travel, The Family Adventure Company provides an English-speaking, family-friendly local leader. Lodging, transportation and activities are also included. Tours typically consist of three or four families with kids of similar ages or interests. (You can also put together your own trip with just your family or other families you’re friendly with.) Children 14 and under get a ten percent discount off adult prices; large families (over two kids) get another price break.

    Why Travel With Them?

The award winning company offers a wide range of trips for a wide variety of families. Because they only cater to families, they know what kids like – and as any parent can tell you, nothing is more disastrous than a family tour not geared in any way to kids. The company also supports responsible and sustainable travel practices and gives back to local communities.

    About Oceanwide Expeditions

Based in the Netherlands, Oceanwide Expeditions specializes in polar expedition-style cruises to both the Arctic and Antarctic. Operating since 1996, they’re one of the pioneers in the field.

    What Makes Them Stand Out?

They offer an excellent series of educational lectures onboard and a wide variety of potential activities on shore, which may include camping, snowshoeing, kayaking, and mountaineering for the truly adventurous.

    Who Travels With Them?

Oceanwide Expeditions passengers are curious about the world, its cultures, and its wildlife, and are willing to pay for a top-notch experience.

    Where Do They Operate?

Throughout the Arctic and Antarctic regions and a bit beyond. “Arctic” itineraries include remote Scottish islands – the Hebrides, Orkneys and Shetlands – as well as the Faroes, Iceland, Greenland, Spitsbergen (Svalbard), and the Lofoten islands of Norway. Antarctic itineraries include the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, the South Orkney Islands and the Ross Sea. One spring cruise includes remote, seldom visited South Atlantic islands such as Tristan da Cunha, St. Helena, and Ascension Island.

    How Does It Work?

The company owns a fleet of four vessels capable of breaking through pack ice and small enough to navigate their way through narrow passages. Weather permitting, the ships make two landings per day, with passengers ferried ashore via zodiacs.

    Why Travel With Them?

These are truly memorable expeditions to some of the most remote spots on the planet.
