A huge bummer both for the missed experience and financial loss.

The staff at Rainforest Expeditions were awesome at helping us set up our trip. When we arrived in Lima we could not wait to catch our flight to Puerto Maldanado and explore the rainforest. Unfortunately, we were traveling during rainy season and were delayed 2 days from getting to Cusco where the layover was required to get to Puerto Maldanado.
Because of limited travel time, this caused us to have to cancel our entire trip to the rainforest. There is a clause in the fine print when you pay for your Rainforest Expedition experience that states they will NOT reimburse you due to cancelled flights even if they are caused by weather.
SEE CLAUSE:
"I understand that RFE is not responsible for changes in air travel due to cancellations, delays or other events are not under its control and will not make RFE financially responsible for those acts."
Just make sure you read everything and perhaps choose LAN as opposed to other domestic airlines like Star Peru or Peruvian Airlines. We were not even partially reimbursed for any of our travel plans in the rainforest. It was definitely a huge bummer both for the missed experience and financial loss.
I realize there's prep work involved before any stay, but we were honestly shocked after the outstanding hospitality we'd received on the front end that there was absolutely NO reimbursement, not even partial offered after our unfortunate travel experience.
Wish we had gotten the experience. Hope you enjoy yours! Just proceed with caution before payment.

I went to Tambopata Research Center with a very special group in 1995. It was the best trip I have ever made! Oscelots on the trail, howler monkeys in the night, clay lick before dawn, macaws tearing up your camera equipment and mucho wildlife in the fruiting fig trees.... Yes. I would go back in a heartbeat. We even got to go on a night time fishing expedition with the local guys. An experience I will never forget.

Thank you for the 3D/2N Posada Amazonas adventure I participated with my friends in October 2013, it remains as one of the highlights of our Peru trip. It was a truly organic experience the really inspired me to be increasingly aware of my environment and sustainability. Not only were the accommodations comfortable, we were still infused with the wilderness; we saw several animals (monkeys, lizards, birds) just laying in our hammock in the room. The food buffets were absolutely delicious and the fruit amazingly sweet and fresh. The most impactful part of the experience is interacting with the staff and natives, they were all so friendly and knowledgeable. Our tour guide Robin would make sure that everyone could see each wild animal we encountered on our treks, and when I asked a question on the juice we were drinking one lunch, he just went directly to the kitchen to grab the fruit to show us. I was in a group with my friends, and he even invited us to a competitive soccer game with the other staff!! Everyone was so incredibly talented and friendly to us, we never wanted to leave!
This Peruvian Amazon adventure is a must-try if you ever find yourself in the Peru region. And if you're agile and know your way around a soccer field, see if you can join these fine people in a friendly match -- you'll have your work cut out for you
