I just wanted to go someplace cold. Okla is too hot too much of the year So I picked Iceland. Seemed like it'd be cold. What I found was a top of the line tour. Never had to touch my 'heavy' bags between hotels. And speaking of hotels. I'm picky, and these were very nice, especially Hotel Ranga. Tours were beautifully led by our Icelandic guide, whose name I can only spell the way it sounded. HavLeavie Christionson. He was a wonderful guide, a proud son of Iceland. And full of great old Icelandic stories. Also our expert, Dr Steve Williams was personable and excited about the subject of the Northern Lights. His lectures were entertaining and helped me better understand the what and why of how they happen. I was excited to 'test' myself on the hiking day. We headed out to some of the rough and rustic areas of Iceland in jeeps and got a close up look of glacial rock, fast running glacial melt water, and though I am 70 I was happy to successfully make the treks provided. I'm sure the hike was geared to our comfort level, probably 'moderate' would describe it. I never needed the Icelandic currency. Most places take credit cards. The food on the tour was wonderful, so I never paid for extra meals. No need. We had time to shop for gifts, which I must admit are expensive in Iceland. I did tip our Icelandic guide with what little Icelandic currency I brought. He was so helpful and really good spirited. A nice person. It was cold and rainy most of our trip and we were told to layer. Great advice. And as Havleavie said, "We dress for the weather and we go!" And we did. Dinner meals were fine affairs. We dressed in nicer clothes, I wore slacks and a pretty sweater or blouse. Also, took a a universal adapter and surge protector for plugging in my computer and charging my phone. I don't remember that being in the 'items to bring' but it's necessary. So my trip, not knowing what to expect, was a grand experience that introduced me to a wild and picturesque country with sturdy, optimistic and proud people--with fine meals, great leadership from our Smithsonian guides Lynda and Joe Murphy, our expert, Dr. Williams, and our Icelandic guide, to whom I must apologize for not being able to correctly spell his name, Havleavie!

I traveled with G Adventures in Japan, and it was a spectacular experience. This was my first introduction to traveling with on a group tour, and I will definitely be a loyal G customer. I was a bit taken aback by the extensive use of public transportation, with my bags, but this is part of traveling with G - a truly local experience.

A fantastic introduction to Japanese culture and history March 2017

My tour with G Adventures to Japan was spectacular! The focus was on an immersive experience, and I worried this might mean an elimination of classic sights. Since I'd never been to Japan, it was important to me to have both a local experience as well as learn the history and see what "tourists" see.

My reservations were quickly abated, as the tours was a wonderful balance of both. We ate in local restaurants and took public transportation, visited famous temples, and took walking tours through monasteries. One of the most amazing experiences was chanting with Buddhist monks high in the mountains at a traditional Buddhist Monastery in Koyasan, as rain poured down outside adding to the mystical feeling of being out of place and time. Truly spectacular and something I'll never forget.

Our guide, Kozo was amazing. Incredibly knowledgable and as a local himself, eager to share his culture with all of us. I also very much appreciated having someone who spoke the language along with us.

I would highly recommend this tour! My one warning would be to say that you will be lugging your suitcase around on public transportation, which can be a bit of a drag. Pack light!

Just back from the Thailand family adventure. Superb experiences, put together and delivered fantastically by Sita. We travelled with 3 other families from USA and Australia (we're in the uk). 9 kids ranging from 6-14 and they all got on brilliantly.
Good mix of culture / nature which even the youngest children enjoyed.
We were lucky enough to be away over Xmas /new year and I don't think I'll forget the raft on Xmas eve or the beach party on NYE. Amazing.
If I had to say anything that could be improved on it would be the length of time driving back to Bangkok from Koh Chang. It could have been broken up by a visit / activity or better still, we could have flown to (or from) Trat to break up the day.

Stride Review

Specializing in small-group, multi-day adventure tours and expeditions, Toronto-based G Adventures has been a pioneer in the field since 1990. Founded by entrepreneur Bruce Poon Tip after a backpacking trip to Asia, the company fosters sustainable and environmentally sound tourism practices -- giving back to the communities they visit -- and considers its business “changing people’s lives,” not just offering a vacation. It’s since grown to become the world’s largest independent adventure travel company, with more than 1,350 employees, many of them professionally trained guides.

What Makes Them Stand Out?

G Adventures strives to create unique experiences for its travelers that start even before the trip itself. The company provides trip inspiration through their Looptail blog and you can connect with fellow travelers via the ‘Departure Lounge’, which is part of G’s ‘Watering Hole’ travel forum. Once on your trip, you will meet your ‘CEO’ or ‘Chief Experience Officer’ who is “responsible for enriching your journey, offering local insight, and pursuing great experiences as they happen.” Most groups average around 12 travelers, with a maximum of 16 on most trips.

Who Travels With Them?

While its target market has traditionally been younger travelers, G Adventures now offers a broad range of trips that can appeal to adventurous-minded, culturally curious people of any age. Groups are geographically diverse, with a higher proportion of North Americans than some other operators.

Where Do They Operate?

You can find G Adventures trips in most parts of the globe, including 32 countries in Europe, 25 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, 21 countries in Asia, 10 countries in South America, 12 countries in Central America and the Caribbean, five countries in North Africa and the Mideast, plus the U.S., and Canada. A number of destinations are well off the beaten track, from Sao Tome and Principe in West Africa to Borneo in east Asia to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean and both polar regions.

How Does it Work?

Pricing is competitive (cheaper), largely by using “grassroots” approaches: local transport and a mix of privately-owned accommodations, perhaps including homestays and camping. Efforts are made to focus on authenticity with both culinary choices (locally-owned restaurants) as well as transportation methods. G Adventures truly offers something for everyone, with trip styles such as Comfort, Active, Rail, and YOLO (You Only Live Once - for 18-39’s) -- so whether you're looking for Switzerland trips to trek through the Swiss Alps or relaxing cruises along the Danube River, G Adventures has got you covered.

Why Travel With Them?

G Adventures is a good choice if you are looking for an authentic, if not luxury, guided travel experience. Some features especially stand out. Lifetime Deposits allow passengers who have to postpone a trip the chance to use their initial deposit at a later date and at no extra charge. Departures are guaranteed once you’ve paid (barring significant weather or safety issues). And they don’t charge single supplements. In short, G Adventures wants you out there with them.

From G Adventures

G Adventures is an adventure travel pioneer offering the planet's most awe-inspiring selection of affordable small-group tours, safaris and expeditions. Our award-winning trips embrace authentic accommodation, exotic cuisine and local transport to put travellers on a first-name basis with the planet’s people, cultures, landscapes and wildlife.

Adventure travel is more than a vacation. It’s a chance to get to know your world better by putting yourself on a first-name basis with the people, places, and things that make it worth exploring. This is your planet. Come and get it.

All G Adventures tours share a common love of adventure, but life-altering experiences come in a variety of flavors. Here are some of the Travel Styles we offer:

"Comfort": “Adventure travel” doesn’t have to mean “roughing it.” Comfort tours offer the genuine experiences you want with more extras, frills, and upgrades.

"Classic": An unbeatable mix of uncommon experiences, insider access, cultural contact, and all the must-sees and -dos, Classic is adventure perfected.

"Active": Why just see the world when you could bike, hike, kayak, and multi-sport it? Why, indeed. Active tours keep travellers who like to move on the move.

"Yolo": You’re only young once. Make the most of it with Yolo tours, fun-filled and fast-moving adventures designed just for travellers aged 18 to 39.

"Family": Just because you settled down and had kids doesn’t mean your adventuring days are through. Family makes our big planet small enough for all.

"Local LIving": Want to get under the skin of some of the most gorgeous and out-there places? Local Living tours grant access that even locals don't have.

"Private Groups": Got a group of eight or more and want to keep the fun to yourselves? Try a Private Group tour. You pick the who and where, we’ll handle the what.

No matter what kind of traveller you are, we’ve got a tour (or a dozen) that’ll fit you just right.
