We have come back from doing the 'In the wake of Scott and Shackleton' expedition in February/March and it was the most amazing experience. The scenery and the wildlife were just too amazing to try to describe. There was never a dull moment; whether on the bridge, on an island, going to one of the fabulously enriching lectures, or eating the first class meals. Although the ship did some rock'n and rollin it was comfortable and the Russian crew were great. Our thanks to the Captain who went out of his way to follow orcas and whales so that we could get a better look. As for the Heritage crew, you couldn't get a more helpful, caring, safety conscious and friendly group.
Thanks Heritage for the trip of a life time.

I had the trip of a lifetime, the boat, crew and expedition leaders were WORLD CLASS! We cruised from Papua New Guinea through the Solomon Islands (Melanesia) for two weeks. The wildlife was wonderful as the indigenous peoples were friendly - Cant wait to do another one of their trips.

A travel company that makes expedition cruising available to remote places on earth. I had the opportunity to go on a trip to the South Pacific in April 2017. A truly remarkable and well organized expedition and for sure a company I will come back to for more of their trips.

In February I had the most fantastic month on the Spirit of Enderby with Don McIntyre & many other experts, sailing to Antarctica. I'm still on a high from all we saw & achieved in that trip of a lifetime. Penguins, albatrosses, whales, seabirds galore, plus visits to Scott's Huts,2x, Shackleton's Hut & Campbell's snow cave site on Inexpressible Is, McMurdo & Scott Bases with personal tours, Ross Ice Shelf,10 days total in Antarctica with many sub-Antarctic Islands on the way. This trip was everything advertised and heaps more above & beyond. Superb.

Heritage Expeditions helps you get to the most remote places of ineffable beauty August 2016

Heritage Expeditions helps you get to the most remote places of ineffable beauty with comfort and ease. I just got back from the "Chukotka: where Russia's Day Begins" expedition that included two days at Wrangel Island. For half of the expedition I was pinching myself to make sure that this is actually real. On this special expedition we met the people, saw and listened to their stories and learned of their love for and strong connection with the land and the sea. Wildlife lovers just couldn't put their cameras down: polar bears, whales, snowy owls, puffins, seals, walruses...there was always some kind of magnificent creature around.
Also the relatively small group sizes ensure the most personal touch from the crew and amazing landing opportunities that big groups do not have.

From Heritage Expeditions

Heritage Expeditions was formed in 1985, as a way of increasing awareness and conservation of the natural world through responsible expedition travel. Its founder Rodney Russ was a biologist working for the New Zealand Wildlife Service. Through his work on Kakapo, Black Robin and other endangered species he appreciated that rather than locking wilderness areas away, it was important to share them with people so that they might become "ambassadors" advocating and supporting conservation efforts.  He has long held the view that conservation and responsible travel are partners, that together can achieve what might otherwise be unachievable.

From those small beginnings the company, which is still family owned, operates its own Polar Research Vessel, Spirit of Enderby, on expeditions to Antarctica, the Subantarctic, through the Pacific and the Russian Far East. Each expedition is meticulously planned and led  ensuring that passengers (maximum of 50) maximize every opportunity they have to learn and experience as much as possible about the region, while at the same time minimising the impact of their visit.

Today Heritage Expeditions works from modern purpose built offices in Christchurch, New Zealand. When booking with us you will benefit from the enormous wealth of experience, knowledge and passion of the staff for the destinations we visit.

Ambassadors for conservation, pioneers of discovery, and leaders in expedition travel to the world’s best-kept secrets.

For the past 30 years, Heritage Expeditions has pioneered conservation-driven voyages to some of the most wild, least-explored and biologically rich regions on the planet.

Spanning two hemispheres—from Antarctica’s historic Ross Sea to Russia’s isolated Far East—we journey to UNESCO World Heritage sites, pristine nature reserves and far-flung indigenous communities steeped in tradition, including such marvels as Macquarie Island of the Sub-Antarctic, Russia’s secluded Wrangel Island, and the South Pacific’s Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Join us aboard the intimate 50-passenger Spirit of Enderby as we discover distant shores teeming with penguins, sweeping tundra vistas, colonies of majestic Albatross, remote polar bear breeding grounds, ancient settlements, relics of bygone explorers, and idyllic Pacific islands hosting a kaleidoscope of cultures…

Whether you’re a birder, photographer, wildlife enthusiast, conservationist, or simply an adventurous spirit, these expeditions offer an unparalleled travel experience.
