As a first-time backpacker I was both anxious and excited about doing the Coyote Gulch trip with my husband and two children, a 6th grade girl and 9th grade boy. My son and husband had previously done a Wildland trip and assured me that we were in good hands and once we hit the trail with our guide, Samantha Cooke, I knew what they meant. The scenery was beyond jaw-dropping spectacular - how can something this beautiful be so unknown?!? Samantha had such great positive energy and her passion for the desert was contagious. The fact that she whipped out a small oven from her backpack and was baking cakes, cornbread, biscuits and other yummies at camp is just one example of how she went above and beyond our expectations to make this a magical family-bonding experience. She was funny, patient, encouraging, knowledgeable, and inspiring and we can't wait for our next Wildland adventure. Enthusiastically recommend this trip and outfitter!

The guided three-day hiking trip with Wildland Trekking was an amazing experience. The company can't necessarily take credit for our excellent group or the perfect weather, but the entire agenda, packing guide, and guide were all done extremely well. I was able to focus on enjoying the Grand Canyon without having to plan a single detail after our guide picked us up. The meals were excellent, the timing was planned but with flexibility that adapted to our group's desires, and Brian was a seemingly limitless source of fun facts at every turn. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone!

My 2 sons, husband and I had an unforgettable time hiking with our Wildland Trekking Guide, Karla, to the Bright Angel Campground at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Since all of our camping equipment went down on the mules arranged by Wildland, we could enjoy hiking with just a daypack. Karla was an endless source of information about the history, geology, climate, flora and fauna in the Canyon. And the food she cooked was absolutely delicious!

FAQ

What's included in the trip cost?

Every trip includes:

  • A professional, certified, friendly wilderness guide (see guides)
  • Hiking and camping permits, reservations and fees (park entrance fees not included for the Mule-assisted Grand Canyon Classic and Phantom Ranch tours).
  • Transportation from the town of origin to the trailhead and back (not included on the Phantom Ranch, Mule-assisted Classic, and Havasu Falls Summer Tours)
  • All associated camping gear (tents, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, and eating utensils)
  • Use of a backpack and trekking poles
  • On multi-day trips: breakfast the first day through lunch the last day and trail snacks
  • On day hiking tours: lunch and trail snacks

Where does my trip begin and how do I connect with my guide?

When you register for a hiking trip you will receive an information packet that details when and where you will meet your guide and group for a pre-trip orientation. For multi-day hikes, this meeting normally takes place in the evening the day before the start date. At this meeting you will prepare for your upcoming adventure.

Where should I leave my car and/or luggage?

Many of our guests leave their vehicles and luggage at their hotel while they're in the backcountry. We also have offices with attached warehouses in Flagstaff, Arizona and Bozeman, Montana; you're more than welcome to leave vehicles and luggage at one of these locations if you're doing a Grand Canyon, Havasu Falls or Yellowstone Tour. Please note: if you're leaving a vehicle, it will be parked on the street in front of the warehouse, and we don't take responsibility for its security.
