"Geoff helped my wife and I to put together an itinerary that customized to our particular interests and preferences. At the outset he asked us where we'd like to go and, after a small number of iterations, together we were able able to craft an itinerary that met our budget, touched on much of the places we wanted, and did not have us staying at a different resort each night. Before leaving for our trip we were given our itinerary and confirmation #'s/vouchers/contact #'s for all of our activities and hotels captured in an easy-to-use app that made it extremely easy to transition to the next point of our journey. "We booked a National Geographic expedition Holland and Belgium by River. The promotional literature promised a 14-day deposit refund window. The “invoice” was marked “non-refundable” deposit. We completed the National Geographic Traveler Information. About 8 days later we received the “Travel Agreement” to be signed. We both approved and signed the National Geographic documents. A Cruise Line Travel agreement was enclosed but had no signature line. This document contained language which was unacceptable. We submitted the signed NatGeo documents. The following day we canceled the trip due to the unacceptable Cruise Line language. Cancellation was made 12 days after booking and no deposit was returned. We were told on the phone that the refund deadline was triggered by the 14 day window OR signatures on the Travel Agreement which ever came first. This was NEW information. To date, we have received NO refund of our $1000. We cancelled our trip within the advertised 14 day window."

"I did the Oz intro tour in October 2019 and I have not been able to recommend it enough to everyone I know thinking of travelling since. The intro tour is brilliant for making potentially stressful parts like sorting a bank card/SIM card, stress free with leaders who really know what they are doing. I was lucky to have Tom and Fiona as leaders who were totally professional when it came to the important things but great fun the rest of the time! The trip itself is brilliant for showing the best of what Sydney has to offer with nights out, trip to port Stephens and so many activities. A major positive to the trip is the opportunity to make friends. With travelling solo and never having done that before, I was naturally nervous thinking would I enjoy it on my own. The people I met on this tour I ended up travelling with and living with in Sydney afterwards -they really are friends for life. Finally, the aftercare that the tour provides is excellent. After travelling and deciding I needed to find a job in Sydney, I found myself in the Oz intro office all the time. It was a place I was welcomed to fix up my CV on the computer, use the WiFi, print out bits and pieces, fill up my water bottle and have a chat! It didn’t matter if my original leaders Fiona and Tom weren’t in the office as every leader was so helpful and took the time to get to know you so thanks aswell to Poppy, will, Lucas and Sean! Every leader gave honest opinions on their thoughts on how to get jobs or where to eat or where to head out at night which has been great to have ever since when advice is needed! Thanks oz intro - you started off the best 6 months of my life and continued to be an amazing support throughout my time in Australia."

"We booked in February via TripMasters for a trip to Italy in June. Everything was confirmed in February, after our payment. However, in May, right before our trip, we were told that our hotel in Venice had become unavailable. This is from the email sent by TripMasters : "We were just informed that Sant`Antonin Hotel will not be able to honor our reservation that is why our vendor is offering the following alternative properties that is a free upgrade to 4 stars Hotel: 1st Option: Novotel Venezia Mestre Castellana - Upgrade to 4**** Via Alfredo Ceccherini 21, Mestre, VE, 30174, ITA Room type: Family Room, 1 Double Bed with Sofa bed Bedding type: 1 Double Bed and 1 Double Sofa Bed 2nd Option: Hotel Mercure Venezia Marghera - Upgrade to 4**** Via Malamocco 14, Mestre, VE, 30175, ITA Room type: Starndar, Multiple Beds 2 Twin Beds and 1 Double Sofa Bed Note that these rooms are not booked yet. We need your approval. Please let us know if you accept, or if you need further information do not hesitate to contact us." Neither hotel has the traditional style we were looking for, so we declined and scrambled to find among the much more limited inventory than when we booked our trip in February an acceptable alternative. It's only until we finished our trip and got to know the area better did we realize how far away the two alternative options TripMasters are from Venice (>1 hour each way to Venice via public transportation) and how much cheaper they are compared with our original choice (right in the center of Venice and has stellar reviews). We just felt lucky that we didn't take the bait and fell into their trap. Otherwise, our trip would have been ruined. It's quite blatant when they had the gut to mention this in their email: "a free upgrade to 4 stars Hotel" without disclosing the much different location of the two alternatives. We dislike being treated so dishonestly and will never use them again."

"It was a leap of faith for us to use Zicasso, a service that connected us to Top Travel Italy, and to book a trip with a travel agent because we've always planned our own vacations in the past. It turned out great! Their model works. Zicasso recommended two agencies in Italy, our destination country, and we chose Top Travel Italy based on their responsiveness. What fun to create a customized itinerary based on their recommendations -- we told them how many days we could travel, what our budget was, and roughly what we wanted to do. They came back with a first draft and we tweaked it from there. Everything worked smoothly while we were in Italy -- we had good hotels and great tour guides, but I think the highlight for me was the private drivers! Driving in Cinque Terre, Rome, and the Amalfi Coast would have been stressful and it was wonderful to leave that to the professionals. And always, Top Travel was a phone call or an email away if we needed them."

Train & Rail Journeys Tour Selection Trips

  • Bring your own food. Often train food costs extra and, let's face it, may not be that delicious. So packing some snacks for the journey is well worth it.
  • Not all train travel is created equal. Check and double check your ticket to make sure you know if seats are assigned or not. Plan accordingly, as boarding can get very crowded if everyone is jostling to find a seat.
  • Make sure you know the difference between which trains are running express trains and which are running local. Familiarize yourself with the stops and station names, which if in a language unfamiliar can often sound quite similar to each other.
  • Be prepared for the length of the journey. If you get motion sick, try to plan shorter routes or think about where you might be able to disembark for a few hours.
