Day 1—6:  Cape Town - Gariep (Orange) River - Fish River Canyon - Namib Naukluft National Park - Solitaire - Swakopmund

We begin with a cultural tour of Cape Town’s townships before travelling north through the citrus area of the Western Cape to our camp on the banks of the Gariep (Orange) River. Once in Namibia our first stop is at one of the natural wonders of Africa - the Fish River Canyon that almost rivals the Grand Canyon for its breath-taking views. Then in the Namib-Naukluft Park we climb the giant red sand dunes in what is the world’s oldest desert for a view of sunrise over the vast sea of sand. We continue to Solitaire then on to Swakopmund, a coastal resort town where there is the option to enjoy one of the thrilling adventure sports on offer such as skydiving and sand-boarding.

Day 7—10: Spitzkoppe - Etosha National Park - Windhoek

Turning inland, we go to the eerie and spectacular Spitzkoppe, a group of bald granite rocks, and on to the Etosha National Park is a reserve of over 20,000 sq. km surrounding a central salt pan, which attracts numerous mammal and bird species. We explore on morning and afternoon game drives and spend time at the floodlit waterholes for some exciting night viewing. Before heading into Botswana, we spend a night in Windhoek, Namibia’s pleasant capital city.

Day 11—17: Ghanzi - Maun - Okavango Delta - Nata - Chobe National Park - Victoria Falls, Livingstone

We skirt the northern reaches of the Kalahari Desert and join local Bushmen for a desert walk before continuing to Maun and the Okavango Delta. This delta is a natural wetland of flood plains and labyrinthine channels where we explore on foot and by dugout canoe (mokoro). We stay at our tented camp for a night on one of the river islands for an unforgettable wilderness experience. Stopping at Elephant Sands en route, we make our way towards the north of Botswana and Chobe National Park. Home to some of the largest elephant populations anywhere in Africa as well as lion and abundant birdlife, here we take an afternoon cruise to see the animals coming down to the river to drink. From Chobe, we cross into Zimbabwe and drive to our relaxing camp in Victoria Falls; the town named after Africa’s most scenic and powerful waterfall.

Vehicle Note: Due to the road conditions in Mozambique this section is currently operated in a smaller 12 seat 4x4 overland vehicle. For more information on this please contact our team or refer to the tour dossier.

Day 18—24: Livingstone, Zambia - Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe - Hwange National Park - Bulawayo - Motobo National Park - Great Zimbabwe Monument

There is time to partake in various optional activities including white water rafting, canoeing, bungy jumping, horse riding or a scenic flight over the Falls to name but a few. From Victoria Falls, we drive to Zimbabwe’s premier game-viewing area – Hwange National Park, where there is the option to go on an afternoon game drive to see perhaps rare species like African wild dogs or brown hyena, and most certainly the large herds of elephant that Zimbabwe is famous for. Next we track to see white rhino and view bushman paintings on foot in the Matobo National Park near Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city, and further east visit the ancient ruined city that the country takes its name from – Great Zimbabwe.

Day 25—33:  Bandula area - Vilanculos - Tofo, Inhambabe - Xai-Xai - Kruger National Park - Johannesburg

Once in Mozambique, we get to the scenic Indian Ocean coast where we relax for a few days at the idyllic resorts between Vilankulos and Xai Xai. The warm azure waters are alive with tropical marine-life which can be explored by snorkelling or scuba diving (optional), or simply lay back in a hammock and enjoy the near-deserted beaches and inviting climate. We cross the border with South Africa, and in the spectacular Kruger National Park, we hope to see the Big Five on our final game drive. The tour ends in the cosmopolitan of Johannesburg.
