Day 3: Pangnirtung

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

This morning we will arrive in Sunshine Fjord which straddles the Arctic Circle at 66 degrees north. Paddlers may also take advantage of the sheltered waters of the fjord to go kayaking.

Day 5: Auyuittuq National Park

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Akademik Sergey Vavilov or Akademik Ioffe

Today we will venture into one of Canada’s most impressive national parks - Auyuittuq - which lies on the east coast of Baffin Island. Trek beneath its rugged mountains and glacial systems which feed gushing rivers while learning more about the flora, fauna and geology from local guides. We may also visit the small settlement of Qikiqtarjuaq which is home to several Inuit families before continuing north along the coast of Baffin Island and into the Arctic wilderness.

Day 6: Niginganiq (Isabella Bay)

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Akademik Sergey Vavilov or Akademik Ioffe

Cruise into beautiful Niginganiq (Isabella Bay) which provides an important summer habitat and feeding ground for the endangered bowhead whale which is able to break sea ice using the crown of its head. Also keep an eye out for hunting polar bears, ringed seals, narwhal and Canada geese as we navigate these waters.

Day 7: Gibbs Fjord

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

ACCOMMODATION : Akademik Sergey Vavilov or Akademik Ioffe

This morning we will cruise through beautiful Gibbs Fjord which is surrounding by towering cliffs. Soak up the views towards its snowy glaciers as we slowly navigate the dark waters, keeping an eye out for wildlife en route.

Day 8: Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet)

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

As we approach the far north of Baffin Island, we’ll enter a channel to visit the remote Inuit community of Mittimatalik to learn more about their culture and history. Its spectacular landscapes include rugged mountains, glacial-carved valleys and coastal lowlands, together with a number of large seabird colonies.

Day 9: Devon Island

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

This morning we will depart Baffin Island and cross the wildlife “super highway” of Lancaster Sound to Devon Island. Waters from the Atlantic and Arctic oceans meet here, creating an abundant source of nutrients for both marine life and bird species. We will visit the old Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) outpost at Dundas Harbour before heading to Crocker Bay to discover its large glacial system.

Day 10: Prince Leopold Island

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Akademik Sergey Vavilov or Akademik Ioffe

Today we will visit Prince Leopold Island which serves as an important migratory bird sanctuary and one of the most significant in the entire Arctic ecosystem. Thick-billed murres, black guillemots, northern fulmars and black-legged kittiwakes can all be spotted here, together with beluga, narwhal and bowhead whales which come to feed in the nutrient-rich waters.

Day 11:Beechey Island

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Akademik Sergey Vavilov or Akademik Ioffe

Our final shore landing for this expedition will be on Beechey Island where Sir John Franklin’s expedition spent its last winter in 1845 before disappearing into the icy wilderness. The HMS Erebus was found in Victoria Strait in September 2014, with One Ocean Expeditions contributing to the discovery by carrying scientists, historians, researchers and underwater search equipment. Step ashore to visit the grave markers which have been placed on a remote beach here, before returning to the ship for a special farewell dinner hosted by your Captain.

They are just great!!!
They have a no-nonsense ambience.
The Dormitory is adequate, very clean and comfortable.
The food was very tasty, homely and had a good variety.
The activities catered to our satisfaction. They are provided with lots of patience. Every staff member is so friendly and they ensure that you enjoy the outing.
We were a family with people from all are groups. They took care of every individual needs. Our aged mother was made very comfortable, and they arranged a chair for her at every activity area.
We spent almost two days and one night. And we enjoyed every moment.
If one is looking for a good outing, this is the place. Total value for money. Above all it's the passion of the staff that makes them better than most places around Bangalore.

Just a couple of weeks ago, our team had been to ‘Eagles Unbound Adventure Camp’ for a team outing. It was one of the best outings that we have had and a lot of credit goes to Mr. Sunil Chris for being the perfect host. He and his team had ensured that every minute detail was taken into consideration and delivered as promised. The fact that the organizers were able to feel the pulse of our team and plan activities accordingly had built the right tone for team bonding. The hygiene and quality of food served was par excellence. I would recommend ‘Eagles Unbound’ to anyone planning a team outing.

Ship Description

Both the Vavilov and Ioffe ships are amazing vessels. They are sister ships, so very similar in many ways.  Please see below for specifics for each ship.

Akademic Vavilov

The Scandinavian-built Vavilov sails like a silent dream out on the water. Highly maneuverable yet remarkably stable, the Vavilov was built for both science and adventure. It can endure voyages of any arctic condition while maintaining a cruising speed of 14.5 knots.

The Vavilov and the Ioffe together are two of the most capable adventure vessels around.

From Peter Grubb - Founder of ROW Adventures
"The Vavilov and it's sister ship, the Ioffe, are 2 of the most advanced research vessels afloat. The Vavilov is impressive and neat as a pin,..which is refered to as 'Bristol Condition' in sailing terms. The ship is operated by one of the largest and oldest shipping companies. Our team has sailed on this ship many times and are always impressed with the service and the ship."

Ship Specifications:

  • Staff & Crew: 53
  • Guests: 92
  • Length: 117.04m
  • Breadth: 18.28 m
  • Draft: 6.09m
  • Propulsion: 5,000 KW diesel twin engine
  • Ice Class: KM*L1(1)A2, Canadian Type B
  • Cruising Speed: 14.5 knots in open water

Amenities:

  • One dining room with unreserved seating.
  • Theatre-style presentation room.
  • Lounge and bar, open late afternoon and evening with a wide selection of wines and spirits.
  • Library with a collection of polar-themed books.
  • Ship-to-shore communications via satellite.
  • Clinic with licensed doctor.
  • Gym, sauna and swimming pool.
  • One elevator between passenger deck levels and to the Bridge level.

Akademic Ioffe

Primed for polar research, the Ioffe is an up-to-date, safe, spacious and all-around solid vessel. The common areas on board this boat are crafted with ultimate comfort in mind, whether you're attending an informative lecture or simply hanging out. With a fully stocked bar and variety of films available in the lounge, you can relax and unwind after a day of adventure just the way you want.

Other fabulous onboard facilities include an exercise room, ship store, massage room, sauna and pool. Then of course there's the great dining offered up in our superb dining room. An expert and professional staff member is always at the ready to tend to any need.

As it was originally crafted as a research vessel hailing from Finland, the Ioffe is a very graceful, peaceful and accommodating ship. You'll marvel at how quietly and smoothly she sails and appreciate the transformation she's undergone in order to shift her focus from science to adventure.

The last thing you'll want when you're trying to enjoy an Antarctic cruise is a rocky and noisy ship; such things are unheard of on the Ioffe thanks to her clever design. A ballast trimming system ensures that sea sickness is kept to a minimum, while noisy engines are situated far out of earshot.

We would be happy to arrange airport transfers and pre and post hotel arrangements for you in your arrival or departure destinations.
