I recently traveled to Kenya for 2 weeks and then to Tanzania to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (booked through AWR). Not only were they helpful in all of my trip planning before leaving, but even when I was already traveling they helped with some last minute changes that needed to be made. I was in rural parts of Kenya with limited internet access, and yet AWR managed to help me make last minute changes and everything went smoothly.
Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro is probably the most memorable experience of my life thus far. It was AMAZING. I felt that before leaving AWR was very informative as to what I needed to do to prepare, what I needed to pack, etc.... I looked at some other travel sites to compare information, and AWR definitely had some of the most comprehensive and helpful information without it being overwhelming. I would definitely recommend booking at of your adventure travel plans through AWR.

Great group to work with and were my partner in planning, info gathering, reservations, etc.
The true experience for me includes to decisions, planning, training, info gathering, reservations, etc; not just the successful climb.
Provided me with answers and additional questions I should ask.
Provided well organized list of documents that provided details.
Hotel, ground travel, air travel, guides, etc all were 5 star.

My wife and I took the 5 day group safari in Tanzania in July. Bebe and Robin were both responsive to our questions prior to the trip. The crew in Tanzania was also very attentive. We were to be picked up at an off-the-beaten-path location and they called several times to make sure they knew where they were supposed to go. And then the actual trip. It was fantastic. Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro. We saw every animal you would expect to see on a safari. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The accommodations were wonderful. My wife and I both agree that this was the best trip we have ever been on and we are already looking for a way that we can get back and do it all again.

I went on AWR's Tanzania adventure, climbing Kilimanjaro and going on Safari. This was the most wonderful trip! Every step was well thought out and seamlessly orchestrated. The AWR staff was very helpful in arranging the trip and the Tanzania Journeys company was spectacular in their attentiveness, knowledge and responsiveness to all our traveler's needs. I highly recommend this travel company, and in particular, this trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Delhi

Accommodation: (Standard Lodging) Jivitesh; (Luxury Lodging) The Suryaa - Standard room

Visiting: Delhi, India

On arrival in Delhi, you are met by a welcoming face and assisted with your Delhi hotel transfer. En-route your arrivals manager will help answer all your initial questions on the way to the hotel. He also provides you your travel documents & an orientation briefing of India. Arrive and relax at the hotel. The rest of today is at your leisure.

Day 2: Explore Dehli with your guide

Accommodation: (Standard Lodging) Jivitesh ; (Luxury Lodging) The Suryaa

Visiting: Delhi

After an early breakfast, enjoy a full day of sightseeing in New and Old Delhi.

The capital city of modern India, New Delhi is a well laid-out main metropolitan area built by the British when they moved their capital here from Calcutta in 1911. It blends internationalism and tradition, with many interesting museums and art galleries here. We will drive past the President’s palace and India Gate in the Lutyens’ Imperial City and Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb that pay homage to the mighty Afghan & Mughal Empires.

Afternoon explore “Old Delhi” with its narrow dirt roads, its myriad people and inexpensive and colorful bazaars that keep alive the traditional workmanship for which Delhi has always been famous. The first stop is at the Raj Ghat (the cremation ground of Mahatma Gandhi). Driving past the Red Fort (we will visit the more elaborate Red Fort in Agra) we trade our motor vehicles for bicycle rickshaws, which will take us into the heart of Chandini Chowk (the silver square - so named because of the silver merchants). Negotiating alleyways, which seemingly get narrower and narrower we end up at the Jama Masjid, the largest Muslim mosque in India.

Day 3: Travel to Agra, 200 KM away by road, with sightseeing along the way

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: (Standard Lodging) The Retreat; (Luxury Lodging) Jaypee Palace Hotel

Visiting: Agra

Following breakfast, your driver arrives and together you will drive to Agra, which is 210 kilometers (4 hours) away. On arrival, check in to your hotel.

This afternoon we'll visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb. One of the Mughal mausoleums in the city of Agra. Along with the main building, the structure consists of numerous outbuildings and gardens. The tomb, built between 1622 and 1628 represents a transition between the first phase of monumental Mughal architecture - primarily built from red sandstone with marble decorations, as in Humayun's Tomb in Delhi and Akbar's tomb in Sikandra - to its second phase, based on white marble and pietra dura inlay, most elegantly realized in the Tāj Mahal. After the tour, return to your hotel for your overnight.

Day 4: Visit the incomparable Taj Mahal

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: (Standard Lodging) The Retreat; (Luxury Lodging) Jaypee Palace Hotel

Visiting: Agra

Meet your guide early, at 06:15 am in the lobby for your early morning sunrise visit to the spectacular Taj Mahal.

One of the world's most famous structures, the Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. Its perfect proportions and exquisite craftsmanship have been described as "a vision, a dream, a poem, a wonder." This sublime garden-tomb, an image of the Islamic garden of paradise, cost nearly 41 million rupees and 500 kilos (1,102 lbs) of gold. About 20,000 workers labored for 12 years to complete it in 1643.

Return to hotel for breakfast.

After breakfast, enjoy sightseeing at the impressive Agra Fort. Agra Fort is yet another attractive dimension to a city that is so popular with travelers. Built by Akbar in Red Sandstone when he was through with the consolidation of his power after accession to power in 1654, Agra Fort worked both as a military strategic point as well as the royal residence. Many of the palaces inside the fort were later added by next generations of Mughal Emperors like Jahangir and Shahjahan.

Later, if you like, you may also like to make a second visit to Taj Mahal at Sunset. Compared against the quiet atmosphere of a morning visit, you will see huge groups of Indian tourists dressed in colorful Indian sarees and a lively, festive atmosphere at the monument.

Day 5: Agra / Fatehpur Sikri / Jaipur (240 KM / 6 Hours by road)

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: (Standard Lodging) Diggi Palace - Heritage room; (Luxury Lodging) Hilton Hotel - Guest room

Visiting: Jaipur

After breakfast drive to Jaipur. Enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri.

Fatehpur Sikri, located 40 km (1 hour) outside of Agra, is the beautiful and deserted medieval city built by Akbar the Great in the 16th century to serve as the capital of his vast empire. Akbar built the city to celebrate the birth of an heir (the future Emperor Jehangir). After 16 years, there was not enough water to support the population, so the capital was moved back to the Red Fort in Agra. The dryness that plagued Akbar and forced him to abandon his dream city is what has perfectly preserved this moment of Mughal history and exquisite memorial.

Day 6: Explore fascinating Jaipur, the fabled Pink City

Meals: Breakfast

Accommodation: (Standard Lodging) Diggi Palace - Heritage room; (Luxury Lodging) Hilton Hotel - Guest room

Visiting: Jaipur

Jaipur popularly known as Pink City. With its rich & colorful past, resplendent with tales of valor & bravery, it is now one of the most important heritage cities in India. The city was founded in the year 1728 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber.

After breakfast, half-day excursion trip takes you to Amber Fort. En route, make a photo stop at the palace of winds the Hawa Mahal. This is a 5-storied building with a 25 cm-thick facade from the 18th century with 953 windows and niches so that ladies of royal family could see the procession and events in the city without being visible to the people.

We'll then proceed to the Amber City Fort situated 130 meters high with the Aravalli hills around and 11 km north of Jaipur. It was the ancient capital of the Kachhawaha Rajputs till the year 1037. Enjoy a fun elephant ride to the top of the Palace fort.

Return to Jaipur. This afternoon we'll visit the “Pink City” of Jaipur. The City Palace occupies the center of Jaipur. It now houses the Royal residence and museums with collections of textiles and costumes, armory, manuscripts, paintings etc.

Also visit Jantar Mantar (1728-34) built by the royal astrologer Jai Singh II. The instruments are built of stone with marble facing on the important plains for measuring the harmony of the heavens. Each instrument serves a particular function and each gives an accurate reading.

Overnight in Jaipur.

Day 7: Jaipur / Delhi Airport (205 KM by road)

Meals: Breakfast

Visiting: Delhi

This morning, at the appropriate time, your driver will transfer you to Delhi International airport (about a 5-hour drive) in time to board your flight home or onwards within India or elsewhere in Asia.
