Day 1: Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Accommodation: Mount Meru Hotel

Touch down at Kilimanjaro airport where you’ll be greeted and transferred to your well-appointed lodge in a lush garden setting near central Arusha. You’ll soon be meeting your fellow travelers and getting briefed about your upcoming adventure. Relax and enjoy the remainder of your day as you please.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Accommodation: Maramboi Tented Camp

Your journey begins as your naturalist guide transports you to Tarangire National Park, dotted with majestic baobabs and an unusually large elephant population – up to six thousand of the familial pachyderms. After a warm welcome and relaxed lunch at your tented camp, grab your cameras for an afternoon game drive to view the multitude of wildlife along the Tarangire River. Your ranger is expert at spotting those reclining big cats lazing in the grasses. Gather with your safari companions to toast the start of your safari as you look out at the sun sinking over the splendid vistas. Then, tuck in for a hearty dinner beneath the stars.

Day 3, Tarangire National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Maramboi Tented Camp

Spend the day with a full menu of gameviewing as you explore Tarangire’s riverine thickets, grassy acacia woodlands and stands of ancient baobabs. Depending on the season, you’ll see large numbers of wildebeest and zebras as well as giraffes, buffalo, Thomson's gazelles, greater and lesser kudus, elands, leopard and cheetah. The birding is outstanding - watch for huge flocks of flamingos and other wading birds as the Manyara and Tarangire Pans fill with water during the wet season.

Day 4, Lake Eyasi

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp

After an early morning walk, set out for Karatu near the Ngorongoro Conservation area. After crossing the Great Rift Valley near Lake Manyara, immerse yourself in the daily ritual of African life as you mingle with villagers at the local markets and visit a school. Late this afternoon, you’ll arrive at your tented camp on the shore of Lake Eyasi, an immense seasonal soda lake. Explore the grounds spread among a beautiful natural palm and acacia forest, enjoy the lake views with colossal rock formations as a backdrop, and birdwatch at the natural spring before dinner.

Day 5, Lake Eyasi

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp

Be prepared for an extraordinary cross-cultural experience today when you meet the local nomadic tribes and learn about their traditional lifestyles. Join a local guide and interpreter to walk with the local Bushmen (Wahadzabe) as they hunt using bows and arrows and gather tubers and roots in this dry and rugged landscape. This afternoon, you’ll meet the pastoral Datoga people, who have retained their unique cultural practices - the women still dress in goat skins and adorn themselves with stacks of brass bracelets, clicking rhythmically as they dance.

Day 6, Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Ngorongoro Farm House

Your journey continues to your lodging near the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Here you’ll spend the next two days exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at the prolific wildlife roaming the world’s largest caldera. Take in the view of the coffee plantations and settle into your lovely lodging; then perhaps take a walk or explore the coffee farm at the Ngorongoro Farm House.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Ngorongoro Farm House

This morning descend to the 100-square-mile floor of the lush Ngorongoro Crater for a picnic and the chance to observe wildlife. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this unique biosphere has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. The stunning landscape combined with spectacular wildlife, makes the crater one of the greatest natural wonders of the planet. Later, visit a Maasai village where herdsmen graze their cattle around the crater rim. Depending on the season, you’ll have a choice of half-day hikes into the Empakai Crater, Olmoti Crater or the surrounding highlands.

Day 8, Serengeti National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp

As your adventure heads out for the Serengeti plains, visit the “cradle of mankind,” the 31-mile-long Olduvai Gorge. Here, the famed Leakey family archaeologists have discovered ancient remains of several species of man’s earliest ancestors. Soon, you’ll be on your way to the Serengeti National park, often called the most impressive wildlife sanctuary in the world, and your tented camp. Tonight, soak up the sounds of the bush from your veranda and sink into slumber in your comfortably-furnished and spacious tent, complete with ensuite bathroom and bucket shower.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp

Soak up the early morning splendor of an African sunrise as you meet your expert ranger for a game drive to observe the wildlife at their most active. Perhaps you’ll catch up with the lioness returning from her hunt or a pair of grunting warthogs darting through the grass. Observe placid elephants encircling their young while countless wildebeest graze alongside zebras and antelope. Among the massive granite hills dotting the grass, you may spot a camouflaged leopard and her cubs playing in the shadows and, more likely tiny dik diks bounding into the shade. After lunch and a siesta, gather your camera gear for an afternoon game drive, returning in time for a hot shower before dinner.

Zoom in on the pride of lions sharing the night’s hunt. Wait patiently to catch the eye of the elegant giraffes snacking from the trees. Feel small as you zoom out on the endless landscape dotted with wildlife oblivious to your presence. After your late afternoon game drive, unwind and recharge.
